Today was my first class ever, the class it self was amazing but what was even better was the people. Spencer was over the top and all the women there were so happy once I stepped onto the mat and instantly introduced themselves to me with the biggest smiles on their faces making me feel very welcomed. Everyone was so kind and understanding, making sure I knew what was going on and that I was getting the correct training.

I've been bringing my son to Submission Arts Academy in Barrie for just a few months now, and it's been an absolute game-changer for him. From the moment we walked through the doors, we were greeted with such a warm, friendly atmosphere—it's like joining a big, supportive family where everyone cheers each other on, from beginners to pros. The instructors, led by Professor Spencer Lalonde, bring a truly professional approach to every class: their techniques are spot-on, the drills are well-structured, and they tailor everything to build real skills while keeping it fun and safe. My son? He's absolutely on cloud nine—over the moon with happiness! He can't wait for each session, talks nonstop about his progress, and has gained so much confidence on (and off) the mats. If you're in Barrie and looking for top-notch Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that feels like home, this is the place. Highly recommend—five stars all the way!

One of the top places in Canada to train and grow at. I’ve had to privileged to travel and train all over Canada and the US for over 15 years with BJJ & Judo. Spencer is the best instructor I’ve had and a great mentor on and off the mats. You’ll not be disappointed to visit or call SubArts home.

I've been training at Submission Arts Academy for 6 months now and have had the most positive experience. Spencer and all the instructors are awesome and very welcoming. The class is structured to get you to learn takedowns and BJJ on the ground. The gym has a great team environment with generally more coloured belts than white belts that are happy to help you out. There are almost always a few females in class for girls looking to join. His pricing is more than fair, you pay your monthly due and you can train as much as you want - there is no set class limit. If you are looking for a spot to train this is it.
