My son began his classes in March, and he loves every minute of it. He has quickly made friends with other children and sees the instructors as role models. I love the environment of classes because it is a positive atmosphere - unlike other sports where parents and coaches are quick to be negative if a child isn't living up to their standards. No one puts another student down; they are all encouraging and respectful. The instructors give positive feedback if a student makes a mistake. He truly feels as if he is learning in class. My son went to his first competition, and everyone was so encouraging, and he felt at home. He wants to go to more competitions.
Posted 1 year agoStar is the best place to help your little one grow in every aspect of life! Star teachers are not only positive and kind, they also go the extra mile to help your little one in many areas of life.
Posted 1 year agoThe taekwondo school is excellent. It has good instructors, the children have a lot of fun, play a lot of sports, and acquire very good skills, such as discipline, control, and obedience. My children love coming to class every week.
Posted 1 year agoThe level of development and confidence instilled within my boys have proven immeasurable. Additionally, the life skills they learn will stay with them their entire lives. Highly recommend if development is something your family expects out of a program like this.
Posted 1 year agoMy son Larry absolutely loves his tiny tiger classes, such a good environment!
Our daughter has been with Star since 2016 and earned her 2nd degree black belt last month. The 7 years here speaks to our relationship with the owners, coordinators, instructors and families who attend Star. We appreciate the openness and willingness to listen to feedback and make changes if necessary. We could write a never-ending story about the awesome experiences we’ve encountered while attending classes as parents and as students, but we will point out the life skills as the main focus: confidence, discipline, communication and respect. The instructors really make a difference and we are fortunate to have access to such a welcoming and well-planned school in our community. We wholeheartedly recommend Star Martial Arts!
We absolutely love star martial arts the instructor's are amazing they helped my son build confidence and disaplan and now he's in the Uma program
Star Martial Arts is the best! The instructors are attentive and friendly. By enrolling my child at Star Martial arts, he has learned not only martial arts skills, but also skills that he can use in every day life. I highly recommend this program.
Martial Arts has been a great investment in our son, boosting his confidence, his motivation. It has given him something that he enjoys doing, and growing in (most days). I know it cannot always be easy being the instructor with kids that you KNOW don’t push themselves as they should, but you stick with it and don’t give up on our children. So thank you to each and every one of you.
They have amazing instructors. A great place to build up the mind, body, and soul through hard work with a wonderful community.
Martial Arts has been a Great investment for our son. The confidence he has gained from it.
My son has been attending Star Martial Arts since he was 5. He has learned so much from his classes. His Discipline and confidence has grown tremendously. The teachers here are amazing and kind.
This is our first time at Star Martial Arts. It has been a very positive experience so far. My child always looks forward to going to class.
Since starting a year ago, we’ve already noticed a difference in our grandson’s behavior and confidence. The instructors are all amazing! Not only do they work on the obvious curriculum, but the guidance carries over into home life!
We won a drawing at the BooBash last October, and we haven't looked back since. You guys have helped with building my daughters confidence. Have also helped with respect and discipline which has carried over outside of class. Thank you!
My sons love it here. They are great at engaging the students and reinforce all of the good habits you want your children to have.
We started attending classes this May for my son, Wyatt. As a point of reference, Wyatt is ASD and ADHD. The instructors have been AMAZING, working with him!! He has learned discipline, self control for some of his anger issues, following directions, as well as strength and endurance! Couldn't be happier!!
They help build confidence, good mindset, and make sure everyone leaves testing ready every day.
My name is Connor. I like star martial arts because the instructors helped me bring up my confidence and I learned how to protect myself.
My son loves star martial arts. He is on the spectrum and it gives him good structure and new friends. He learns a lot and has fun while doing it.
My daughter has been doing karate at Star Martial Arts in South Bend for about a year. She loves going each week and has learned so much from the instructors, Mrs. Merrill and Mr. Hartman! I've seen her confidence in herself grow and her leadership abilities as well. I would highly recommend Star Martial Arts!!
Amazing program that will keep your child (and whole family) moving and active, inspired, and gaining confidence.
Seth is absolutely great with children. We took our son here for the black belt program and it was probably the best investment we could put into our child. The discipline he learned has served him very well now throughout life. He was 5 years old when he started and is now almost 21 years old and a junior in college. I know my son would not be nearly as good of a person as he is without having been involved with star martial arts
Going to Star and becoming part of their community has been life changing. I am on dialysis and started going to lose weight so I can be on the transplant list. Stars workouts helped me do that. I lost over 10 lbs in 3 weeks. They accommodate my needs and go above and beyond to work with me to make sure I am successful. I strongly suggest you make them part of your family!
You guys have been there for my daughter for many years. And have taught her so much for her to hold on to and achieve in her adult life. I thank you for all that you have done. I highly recommend any parent to instill this into their children as it will make them know what hard work and respect is in life.
My grandson Abel Reed is a yellow belt there! I love the teachers! I try to make it there on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Great job Star Martial arts of Elkhart!
As a father, the best decision I ever made for my son was to enroll him at Star Martial Arts. You guys have absolutely amazing mentors and I'm so proud that he gets to learn from them.
My daughter has been attending Star Martial Arts for about a year. Her confidence has grown, it has helped immensely with her ADHD and behavior. She has learned discipline and recently joined the leadership team. Star is very professional, the instructors are amazing, especially Miss Gallegos and Mr. Cooper. They are extremely good with children and help my daughter with her form and lessons. My daughter looks forward to lessons every week and has made many friends here.
I cannot say enough good things about Star Martial Arts. The instructors have changed my son’s attitude 1000%. He is more respectful and disciplined. Thank you Star Team for all that you do for all the kids!
love the environment and my son is so happy to be apart of the classes!
Great enthusiastic instructors who are genuinely interested in your success. I highly recommend their program.
This is a great place. Nice staff, great role models and good show of manners and work ethic.
The school is great! An excellent place to learn martial arts, defense, and life lessons as well. I would highly recommend them for both kids and adults.
We really enjoyed our experience with Star Martial Arts. Seth was an amazing instructor!
Star Martial Arts has provided a skill set for our son that I didn't know he would leverage. His engagement in martial arts has helped accelerate self-confidence and maturity. The sense of achievement through the program is great; he must earn the next level belt - I really like that. He feels the weight of preparation for the test and then he feels the success of accomplishment. The instructors provide great guidance and encouragement, but it is not without expectation. thank you.
Our son has had an incredible experience through Star Martial Arts. Going to class is, by far, one of his favorite activities each week. The instructors are amazing and have gone above and beyond to build on our son's respect, confidence, strength, and focus.
It has been a very worthwhile investment for our family! The staff is amazing and have been wonderfully supportive of our family.
Our family absolutely loves Star Martial Arts! Its great for all ages and personalities, the instructors do so great with everyone. Excited to watch my kids grow and learn how to protect themselves together.
I wanted to take a minute to say thank you to you and all the instructors. First for all the videos/zoom meetings/virtual classes and all of the many communications we have received throughout COVID. Our kids definitely needed the zoom classes and it helped to burn off some of their access energy. This week we resumed in person classes, and despite a large amount of complaining prior to class they seemed to slide right back into the routine with minimal redirection. Within 5 min of class I heard Patrick loudly answering back to the instructors, “yes sir/ma’am”. Patrick seeks the instructors individual attention by doing his best in class and pushing himself. Indiana was quickly locked in and despite generally being smiley during class(and a little silly) he is doing his best to do the moves and impress the instructors as well. He seems to especially like Mr. Morzan, who likes to make him do push ups. Olivia has improved immensely in her form and her effort in class. She is putting more effort into it and it shows. She helped me look up the form for our blue strip after today’s class so we could practice at home. Lucy is coming along. She is emotional and all of the instructors are good about helping her and pulling her aside when needed. She’s still not sure she likes taekwondo but she continue to try. Lastly is little David. He doesn’t say much during class but he loves going to class. He brought out his staff from glow night Wed evening after class and was bouncing around the house with it. All of this to say THANK YOU for all you do for them and taking the time to write cards, give individual words of encouragement, push them to be better, and much more. Mrs. Fisher
The staff at Star Martial Arts has gone above and beyond to show how much they care about each and every student and their learning. They are committed to meeting each student at their level and helping them reach their goals. It is clear to see that the staff is passionate about teaching and being with kids. We are so happy in the change we have seen in our son. He is more disciplined in his school work. He looks forward to his classes every week and is so proud with each stripe and belt he earns.
Great place with wonderful, role modeling teachers . They place strong emphasis on discipline and respect along with leadership skills. I highly recommend.
Great place! Our son has gained confidence and these classes have him excited about physical fitness. The staff does an amazing job with how the manage and instruct the kids
Star has an extremely positive and family oriented environment. They genuinely care about students and their families. They go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure safety, success and positive self esteem.
So happy we signed up our son up for martial arts at Star. This boy who is cautious and fearful is becoming a confident leader. Martial arts is his favorite thing we do. I can see him working hard and he is so proud of himself every time he earns an achievement. He wants to compete in tournaments and is learning life skills. Everyone is so kind and helpful especially Mrs. Torres. He loves his instructors Mr. Cooper and Mr. Marozsan.
Absolutely amazing staff! From the front desk to the instructors everyone at Star martial arts is kind and helpful. Both of my children attend and they have shown a noticeable difference in their confidence level and understanding responsibilities. We are so happy we enrolled them here!
My son has been going to Star Martial Arts for over three years and really enjoys it. He has grown physically, mentally and emotionally through the program. All of the instructors are great with the students. They teach integrity and discipline...and lead by example. If you give this school a chance, you'll be amazed by what your kids will learn. My son did his nunchuck routine at his school talent show this spring and it was amazing!
I have went through multiple sports trying to find something for my son to actually enjoy. This place goes above and beyond. My son has such a great time being apart of this martial arts family. They are so incredibly involved with parents and students and have so many different events in addition to actually classes. This has been very enjoyable way to fill some of my sons time and some o our whole families time! The confidence and disciple he has gained and how proud to show of the things he learns every week is astounding. The instructors put forth so much effort to make the children feel noticed and valued and accomplished and makes sure it all comes from the children's own hard work. The really make sure they are keeping up with your child. I am very happy we found this facility.
I came here as a single woman with no children, simply looking for some self-defense to make me feel a bit safer at my job. What I found was so much more. This is more than a school, this is a community. The people here invest in each other's lives, and they'll invest in you too if you give them the chance. Yes, there are promotions, it is a business, but none of it is mandatory and you don't need the fancy stuff to get a real benefit out of it. I've seen countless lives transformed. Please come see it yourself!
There are times when our son struggles on the mat. The rank group he is currently in as he works toward his black belt in Tae Kwon Do has proven to be difficult the last several months. It’s more complex moves, more memorizing, and more focus which doesn’t always prove easy for a seven year old boy. The changes we have seen since starting Tae a Kwon Do aren’t just in the gym or on the mat, though. This morning he came in to wake me up at 7am to let me know he had already cleaned his room; that he made three piles, laundry, trash, and keep. He put the dirty laundry in the washer and emptied all of the trash cans in the house. That’s a seven year old learning responsibility and leadership and we are so thankful for the influence of Martial Arts and our Star instructors in his life!!
My son is blossoming because of the people and values Star teaches and stands for.
If it wasn't for taekwando, I wouldnt be who I am today. At star, they have amazimg instructors and have a great way if teaching curriculum as well as life skills!
I've to 2 TKD places And Star is well +4 more.
I'm a red black belt and I love it there they make so much good memories just had class last night I'm happy to hit black belt .
The staff are supper supportive. Holding children accountable for choices. Teaching good life choices and to a high standards. They have two locations Elkhart and Mishawaka hoping they expand even more! They have events for kids so parents can have date night ... can you ask for more?
The staff is so amazing and encouraging. I'm so glad we joined.
Star is amazing. They are wonderful with children. Both of my children train here, and have learned so much. My girls absolutely love it.
My son started going in February of 2017 and he just loves it!! The staff and instructors are awsome..My husband and I are so glad we put him into this program and we can not wait for our daughter to be able to start.. You guys do an amazing job.
My son started in February of 2017. His self confidence and social skills have improved tremendously! Their instructors are fantastic and communicate very well with the children. My son absolutely loves them and they are great role models. The Attitude Reports help keep my son in check at home and at school. Everyone that I have come in contact with at Star has been wonderful. I can't say enough good things about them. Not only is my son learning a wonderful life skill, he's also gaining self confidence, discipline & new friends.
The Star Martial Arts program has been a wonderful fit for my son (11 yrs old) and for me (44 yrs old). The children gain self confidence, get exercise, learn how to defend themselves, and most importantly learn about values such as respect, courtesy, etc... I have looked at other martial arts schools That talked about those things, but in going to their schools it was easy to see that those values were not enforced. Star also provides a great environment for adults. It's hard to stay active as an adult, but they make it easy with classes that can fit anyone's schedule. I also have to say it's a lot of fun and the instructors and other adults really make you feel welcome.
I have had a previous student of Mr. And Mrs Birky's and he loved them. I loved how well they interact with the children. I moved away for awhile and when I came back I signed my daughter up and so far she loves it and has been listening more in school and at home. Thank You Star Martial Arts for your help with Makenna.
Our girls love it!! I love them learning self defense along with discipline.
The instructors and all the staff are great. The Birky's are wonderful people and care about all of the students and there family. They have done wonders for my sons self confidence and self-esteem. If you have every thought about taekwondo this is the place to do it.
Great program that allows my son and I to do it together. The instructors are great to work with.
We enrolled our son 2 years ago. Best decision we ever made for him! He was struggling in school and at home. The instructors hold him accountable but also find a way to encourage him. I never thought we'd be a taekwondo family, but here we are cheering him on to a black belt. So thankful for Star!
My daughter took classes there from the age of 6 to 9. She did receive her black belt and did tournaments. Aside from that she learned very important life skills that we now see her using as a 16 year old. We go ahead 8 years later and her little brother who has ADHD and has struggled with school the last few years. This last school year was the toughest for him as he transitioned to middle school. After a long meeting with his teachers, it came evident that he was losing his confidence with school. School used to be so easy for him and he did not know how to handle this big change. After my husband and I discussing about things with him, the light bulb went off and we realized some of the skills he was needing our daughter had learned. So we contacted Mr. Birky and got in for a meeting right away. We told Mr. Birky what was going on and what we would like to see and what they would like to see. It was the last quarter of school and we saw improvements at schools and home right away. The teachers even contacted me about the immediate difference in him. His biggest problem has been to do and turn in his homework. His grades might not have shown his full improvement that quarter, but he completely changed how he was at school. He was taking responisblity for his own work and making contact with his teachers to make sure he did not have any late assignments. He read 3 books during that time, 2 for school and 1 just because he wanted to. Normally he would not even read 1. Prior to starting here he had over 21 missing assignments per quarter and then the final quarter he only had 5 in all his classes. His hardest class he managed to have no missing assignments and took his grade from a D and F to a B. He loves going to classes and working out at home. This is the first time we have found something that does not involve electronics that he looks forward to doing. This has helped him in so many ways. I can not wait to see what the next few years holds for him. Thank you Star Martial Arts. Mr. Birky, Mrs. Birky, Mr.Torres, Mr. Marozsan, and all the other instructors.
We enrolled our daughter who has ADHD/Anxiety. I can't tell you how defeated she gets with any sport...but here, she is thriving and loves to go every single class. Her grades have improved, her self esteem is slowing improving and she seems proud to be a part of it. I could go on, but instead...go sign up and see for yourself. Tell them I sent you!
Star Martial Arts has been nothing less than a blessing in my Life! Mr. Seth Birky (Owner & Instructor) has been there for me since day 1, helping me move forward towards my goals and teaching me good life lessons. Not even just in Taekwondo but in my personal life as well, he has helped in anyway he can to help me through my struggles. On top of that, the other instructors are stand up people who care and want to teach you to be the best! Star Martial Arts is a Life Changer and should be know to all to come and join us in the fun, laughter, challenges and tournaments! It's Nothing less than a 5 Star General!! Come check it out!
Best place best instructors around they are so good with the students and have so much energy Mr Birky is unbelievable on how good is he with the kids and also has a childhood education degree and psychology degree definitely worth trying this place out
Originally started for my children. I started 2 months later. It has been the best decision I ever made. I have learned more then tkd here. So have my kids. If it was not for Mr and Mrs Birky along with the rest of the instructors I would not be physically or mentally where I am today. Thank you for all you do.
My grandson started while in kindergarten & it has helped him tremendously. He has Aspergers & tkd has helped his physical problems as well as given him confidence & improved his self control. He has been able to compete in several tournaments & has learned to be proud of his accomplishments no matter how he has placed in the ring. There have been ups & downs in class, lost his belt a couple times, earned it back - but the respect he has for the instructors & for other students has shown through the difficult times. It has been worth the investment in time & money. And I have also joined & am now working towards black belt rank right along with my grandson. I've lost weight, gained muscle & tons of confidence. And made new friends. Its never to late to try something new. The instructors push just hard enough to inspire & realize that us old folks just don't bend like we used too. I have to admit that I'm not a fitness junkie - but being in class is a really good kind of sore & tired. Star Martial Arts has been good for us. 👍
I decided to sign my son up for TKD at Star martial arts and soon found out it was the best decision I have made. He was defiant and it was a constant struggle to get him to do many things. In just three weeks we are already seeing a dramatic improvement. He loves going to class and has more energy. Now he works towards a good day and it's easier to redirect poor behavior. I can not thank them enough. Jason K. And Sharon H.
I absolutely love this school! Our entire family takes classes. The instructors are amazing and it is such a positive environment that you just want to keep going back to class. I would recommend them to everyone!
I can honestly say that Star Martial Arts has improved my relationship with my children and their overall behavior. Their teacher's, principal's, and counselor's have noticed they are both more respectful, responsible, snd confident. I myself have found more energy and weight loss and oh a new love for something! All instructors take time to help everyone in anything! Mr.Marozsan is wonderful in helping my daughter understand the harder moves and concepts and i have found Mr.Evans to be the one i ask alot for help! I can't say enough good things about everyone at this school!
Just over two years ago, my grandson joined STAR Martial Arts after having some issues in school. Mr. & Mrs. Birky were kind enough to work with us, and they will never know how much that was appreciated. They made a little boy's dream come true to learn the arts! In the past two years, we have watched him learn values to help him mature before our eyes. Tournaments started off as something to do extra, and now he loves it and wants to compete for a World title. The instructors gave him the opportunity to be in leadership, than to work towards learning how to be an assistant instructor. He has treasured it all, and he has learned not to take things for granted, but that hard work pays off. He has learned to overcome obstacles that had previously caused him to stumble at school. It is a struggle, but he does not give up. We want to thank the Birky's for what they teach these kids, and for the wonderful school that they have. Also, to say thank you for what they have done for our grandson. He has even won an anti-bully award to prove what and how he has learned!
As a martial artist, I have visited and trained at many martial arts locations around the country. I can honestly say that Star Martial Arts is one of the finest martial arts schools that I've been to. Last year I spent a week with Mr. & Mrs. Birky to train with them and their staff in preparation for the ATA World Championships. In that week, I was immersed in all their classes, instructor meetings, and daily lives. I was able to grasp the essence of what Star Martial Arts really is. I have known Seth Birky personally for many years. Both him and the school he owns/operates are held with high regards within the ATA (American Taekwondo Association) organization and I was ecstatic when an opportunity arose for me to train at his school. I am very lucky to have a friend and mentor with such character and drive. The integrity he demonstrates in his karate school is no different in his personal life. As a natural-born teacher, Mr. Birky thrives off the success of his students. His enthusiasm to share knowledge and accomplish goals is contagious. Mr. Birky has had a huge impact on my life. He inspires me to be a better instructor, competitor, and person. I am confident that his positive impact has no boundaries. The people who surround him, whether students, staff, or friends, are lucky to have a great leader to look up to. The staff of Star Martial Arts - Mr. & Mrs. Birky, Mr. Bicknell, Mr. Engler & others- are all acclaimed martial artists who have collectively attained numerous State, District and World championship titles. Their attention to detail and vast knowledge of martial arts truly make them experts in their field. However, it is one skill to be a great competitor, but it is another skill to be a great instructor. Fortunately, the staff of Star Martial Arts has both. I saw, first hand, how the instructors' passion and energy for martial arts set a positive atmosphere in each class. They hold their students to high standards and push them to be the best they can be. However, the standards of excellence the academy expects from their students do not stop at the physical aspect of martial arts. Respect, integrity, and discipline are fluently intertwined in their lesson plans. Each parent is asked to fill out a behavior report of their child at each class. This ensures that the character building lessons taught in class are exhibited in other parts of the students life. The few days I spent at Star Martial Arts revealed to me that the Birkys' are running more than a karate school; they are fostering a goal-oriented community composed of individuals with character. It is clear to me that, in essence, Star Martial Arts is a premiere martial arts academy who strives to educate, motivate, and inspire their students/friends to be the best version of themselves that they can be.
I couldn't be happier with SMA! They have many options for class times Monday through Saturday. The instructors are amazing with the kids & I can tell they absolutely LOVE what they do & the kids they teach. We have been going to SMA for almost a year now & love it! One of the other reviews focused on the money, and yes it will cost you some money, but the benefits far outweigh the cost.
Great Program for kids, focus is on being ACTUALLY correct, instead of politically correct, thank goodness
They always have plenty of staff available for classes. Watching my child learn tkd with so much guidance and consistency is valuable and worth the costs. The discipline has already spread into his school and home behavior.
Please take into consideration the fact that, depending on the age of your child when you sign them up, three years brings a huge change in interest and seasons of their life. You could very well be stuck choosing between a payment to martial arts for nothing OR a horrible relationship with your child because they are miserable. I chose the later for a year but I am now choosing the former and that’s not easy either. But, it is nice to not have the constant turmoil in my house. My son is more important than money but I will try to warn anyone else who comes across my path to considering this “carved in stone” contract they have going on. I would also like to mention that my student had almost made it to the finish line and was excited about his the new season of life with getting a part time job and dating. He tested for his black belt just days before he started his first job (there was no way for him to do school work, job and martial arts practice) and was failed by instructors that had not ever seen him or taught him in class! This was the first time he ever failed a testing. One standard cannot be taught in the classroom and then another standard expected at testing. It’s all so disappointing and frustrating for our family.
As a current member of Star Martial Arts, I would like to share my experience with the studio and give my honest thoughts. I can not in good faith recommend Star Martial Arts, the instructors are kind, they are helpful. However the business practices are in my opinion consumer-unfriendly, and I would recommend any person looking to learn Martial Arts to look elsewhere. I've taken the time to provide feedback, on how they could provide a better service, and it falls on deaf ears, or met with a No. When I brought up my issues, I was made to feel crazy, that they felt they were providing a service good enough. I am told that they can't change the programs for adults too much cause of kids. Also, what are they using Social Security Numbers for, and why did they require that. For Taekwondo. They lock you into a 9 month starting contract, however if I wanted to proceed the black belt club is a three year contract that they will not break. You can cancel and block payments too them, but they will send it to collections after three months and have your credit score impacted. To put this in perspective, there are software companies that try to do the same business practice, however if you cancel your debit card on them, that's the end of that, they don't send bills to collections. I signed up for STAR hoping to have some good come into my life, and what started off well has turned into a nightmare. I feel I do not get the value of the service for the cost. For me it's 175$ a month, and I have come to the conclusion STAR is not meant for me, however I can't cancel. Consumers should be fully aware, and in my opinion stay away. Find a better place. They will respond to this review and say I blew up at them. That's the truth. With these types of contracts they should expect more frustrated customers. Truthfully, the only conversation i want to have with them is when I have the correct paperwork to cancel, they cancel the contract. So my advice, is look elsewhere.
Posted 1 year agoInstructor Sanchez mocked my child’s speech impediment, he’s 5. Went in for the last week of our 4 week trial and it was very obviously not my son’s class. We sat for a few minutes and when said class wasn’t ending I went up to the desk to ask a question about my child’s class and stood there for 10+ minutes waiting for someone to come speak to me. No one came so we just left. Going to be looking elsewhere for martial arts for my son & wouldn’t recommend based off of our experience.
As a martial artist I find this school a mcdojo when I was there hanging out there I didn't think they foces on what martial arts are really spouse to be for that is for self defense should be the forces on every school not really just for the sport but to make sure a student has what it takes to survive a real street fight.as a blue belt in a martial art I know this should be the goal
Overcharge by $1400 for a 2nd degree course when child not a 1st degree yet owner refused to refund money.
Look Elsewhere. Been here 3 years, first year was good, makes the kids feel special and confident…downhill after that. Each instructor always has something different to say to the kids the others say was fine so they are always left confused. They focus more on upselling you than actually helping the kids, when asked for help, they dont have time, your steered to pay extra for a private lesson. Never once have the owners been in a class teaching even though they are supposed to be high level blackbelts. Best summary of this place is youtube and then you teach your kids what you saw. I will be looking to a jiu jistu or mma place that actually spends one on one time with my kids.
Seemed like a good thing at first. Mr. Birky claimed to have a degree in child psychology. It was several years ago that my son was a student, but he is still scarred by continuously being called a " crybaby " by Mr. Birky. My son is on the autism spectrum, so I would caution parents to not enroll at Star if they have a special needs child. Also, they took away the orange belt he earned, and basically forgot about it. After a month with no belt, my son didn't want to return. The name calling was also a factor in his decision. I expect better from any professional.
I thought it was a good decision for my children to attend. At first it was during the summer then when my daughter started kindergarten it was hard on her it was too much she was so drained by the time she got home and then had to attend the SMA class right after she got off the bus. Talked with Mr Birky about it he said to keep trying maybe it will get better. She ended up crying every time we put her in the car to go. My son who was 4 when he started loved it until the instructor had these little girls be his helper. The little girl made my son sit down even though he was still as a statue like they were supposed to be. My 4 year old didn't think it was fair I told him she made a mistake the Thursday it would be better... Well on his birthday something happened that the instructor thought was my kid even though IT WASN'T he made my son do pushups. He was so devastated after that and we never attended again. A couple months later we set up a meeting with Mr Birky to terminate our contract which I thought was nice. But he wanted to hear from my 5 & 6 year old that they didn't like to go to the class and that they were interested in something else. My husband said he sat down with the kids asked them if they didn't like class they both said No and and then asked them what they wanted to do and my son said play with friends and apparently he asked them again if they liked class they both then said yes.... So he told us to come back to class... I am so offended I and my husband both felt as if he coached our kids into saying yes. I have now been paying for classes for 2 children $187.50 every month for the past year and a half. My advice if your kid is 10 and older this class is okay younger than 10 don't bother attending. Or considering this place for your business there is way to many kids for 1 instructor.
