Six Blades Oakland is hands-down one of the top jiu-jitsu academies in the entire San Francisco Bay Area 🌟🥇
The energy here is unreal—driven, focused, and welcoming. You’re surrounded by people who are serious about rewiring their bodies and minds for the smoothest, most effective jiu-jitsu flow.
What really sets this place apart are the small, technical subtleties being taught—things that completely change your game. The kind of details you pick up here would take months (if not years) to uncover at bigger academies, where you rarely get that kind of personal attention.
There’s a real sense of lineage, integrity, and mastery on the mats, and the instructors truly see their students. That kind of guidance is rare. I’ll absolutely be back—and I can confidently say this place is a gem for anyone serious about evolving in the art.
Hands down the best REAL Jiujitsu your gonna get anywhere, professor Eduardo Rocha is world renowned! Super chill atmosphere, super chill people, if you are looking for self defense look no further. Give this place a chance I promise you will not be disappointed, one of the most real straight up no nonsense kind of person, not only will you improve your jiujitsu but in life these kind of lessons will be taken with you through life.

I dropped in to train here because I was working in the area. I train at Six Blades in SoCal-Yorba Linda, CA. Gym was awesome. Everyone was really warm and welcoming. Professor Eduardo Rocha was amazing and I'm honored to have been able to train here. Highly recommended. I will be back anytime I'm in the area.

I have been training here for nearly two years since moving to Oakland. I've tried other local academies and the instruction is absolutely top tier. Eduardo is hands down the best instructor I have encountered in 5 states and five years of practice.
Everyone is clenly, friendly, rolls hard and is still mindful of the fact that it's sparring and not the World Martial Arts tournament. All the instructors are knowledgable, and willing to assist you no matter your level. A must visit if you're in town.
Excellent place to train Brazilian jiujitsu! Professor Eduardo is beyond knowledgeable in the art. His instructions are clear and to the point, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Other students are extremely helpful and ready to explain the techniques.
Beyond techniques, I feel like this place carries the spirit of the martial art. There's a rare sense of focus, mental clarity, self-control, and resilience. I find it very helpful for life in general.

This is a great place for those who are serious about learning Brazilian jiu Jitsu. At the same time, the students are enthusiastic and encouraging.
My coworker (3yrs training, blue belt) and I (13yrs training, black belt) were in Oakland for work for a week and decided to see if there was a spot nearby where we could train in the evenings. Professor Eduardo was probably the friendliest gym owner I've ever done this with. He and the other teachers and students were extremely gracious and welcoming.
The warm ups were challenging and thorough, with extensive stretching. The techniques were classic and solid, with good detail and logical iterative variation. Positional drilling followed, and then extensive rolling. Everyone was technical, polite, and controlled while rolling, while keeping up good pressure and pace. No one was trying to rip your head off. Nobody had an ego.
6/5 stars! Exactly the environment all gyms should strive to be fostering. An absolute pleasure.
PS: Challenging black belts!

I trained with Eduardo for over 10 years, from white belt to black belt. My journey training under him improved my life in just about every way you could imagine: health and fitness, self-confidence, emotional regulation and overall sense of well-being, motivation... and on and on. There is no way I could sufficiently explain how much training at this gym forced me to grow. Please, if you are on the fence, or have been curious about jiu-jitsu for some time, take this as the sign you were waiting for. You must do yourself the favor of training here!

Simply the best instruction from an instructor who is serious about the quality of jiu-jitsu taught at his school.
One of the best decisions I’ve made! Eduardo, James and his team of instructors are top tier.
You will quickly see a difference in both, physical and mental aspects.
If you’re thinking about training in BJJ, this is the place! Clean, professional and most important a welcoming environment and awesome people to train with.
Try them out, you won’t be disappointed! 🤙🏽
My name is David Meyer and I am one of the first American’s to ever earn a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I have taught hundreds of seminars and trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu schools all around the world. I take every chance I get to recommend and to train at Rocha Jiu Jitsu. Professor Eduardo is a true master. His knowledge and ability to teach is simply the best you can find, and he also builds true internal and external strength in his students. It is unusual to find someone who can teach such a great class, and can also win world championships himself. I highly recommend this school to anyone who is serious about wanting to improve themselves and learn BJJ.

I thoroughly researched Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training centers in the East Bay and Ribeiro came out on top for me. Eduardo is trained by the best, is a repeat Master World Champion, and is directly involved in the training. I have taken a number of private lessons and the instruction is excellent, clear, precise, and fun. I highly recommend it. It's pretty amazing to be this lucky to have this level of access in Oakland -- very fortunate.

The instructors and students at Rocha Jiu Jitsu are all friendly and courteous. I personally am not gifted in jiu jitsu or grappling by any measure, so it was great that the instructors were very helpful when I wasn't getting it. I think the fundamentals class in particular is exactly the type of class that every white belt should be taking. Overall, great place to train.

I was visiting San Francisco and decided to look for a school there. I found the school or Eduardo Rocha a 5th degree blackbelt and long member of Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu. I attended a class and booked a private class. Had great help with my guard passing game and using the right pressure and mobility. I can advise anybody to go visit this school, Eduardo is a real fun and respectful guy and he has been doing bjj for an eternity both in the states as well as in Brazil. Thanks for having me!

I'm getting back into jiu-jitsu after a long hiatus, and I couldn't be happier. The detailed instruction fixes the holes in my game, and Eduardo's dedication and knowledge of jiu-jitsu is exceptional. Everybody I have trained with is friendly and respectful.

I contemplated for a over a year whether I should come learn BJJ here with Eduardo. I've been training almost two years now, and till this day it bugs me that I wasted time contemplating for that long because thats a year of knowledge that I lost. Eduardo way of teaching is amazing. His attention to detail, his repetition for perfect technique, the way he motivates you and the class to keep pushing and to improve is fenominal. The place is full of great people that'll make you feel welcome. So, if you're reading this review wondering if you should go, GO! Dont make the mistake I made, get your BJJ knowledge on!

Strengthens Mind and Body (and it's FUN!)
The instruction is clear, the classes are well structured, and the environment is welcoming and professional. Great for all levels!
My detail-oriented brain craves to know the “why” behind every move, so it’s wonderful that the teachers are very specific from the onset.
Many of the students are training to compete and they’re in class several times per week. For the first couple of weeks, I had pre-class butterflies, but I kept coming back because the people are genuine, helpful and friendly. I’ve been at the gym for more than a year now.
While I might still wheeze and struggle during the basic conditioning workouts, I am getting stronger and learning a ton! I’m a 5 ft. tall, 100 lb. adult female with a background in dance, but zero martial arts experience. I was initially scared to join, as I have asthma and autoimmune issues, but through this gym and the encouragement of the teachers and students, I’ve learned that my body is capable of more than I thought! I’m thankful for the opportunity.
If you’re considering whether to join, please do! You’ll be learning from the best: Eduardo Rocha is a four-time Master World Champion (IBJJF).

Had the opportunity to attend his seminar in Munich. Eduardo is one if the best professors I ever met on the mat. He teached us old-school Jiu Jits into the New... techniques which work against fancy new school BJJ. Every time a honor to have him here!

Rocha Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an amazing school with world class instructors. After spending time searching and researching a few schools, we came across this one. My daughter started BJJ here a year and a half ago and since then her confidence, athleticism and problem solving abilities have greatly improved. Her instructors put time and energy into each student giving them the confidence and skill they need to compete at any level.
Due to the atmosphere and team spirit, my older daughters and I started training here as well. They offer top notch kids, adult beginners, adults advanced, kickboxing and women’s classes. As a woman and mother it can be intimidating to start something new but the women’s class on Sunday will make you feel comfortable and confident and is a judgment free zone. Overall this school isn’t just a training facility, it’s a family environment!

Every time I've had the privilege to come train here it's been a next level experience. Professor Rocha is a multiple world champion and his seminars are second to none! I've literally seen a teammate go to one seminar and use the move demonstrated to win his next tournament. Rocha Jiu Jitsu is the gold standard to wich other academies strive to meet.

I've been training with Eduardo and Vernie for almost 8 years now. They are both very technical with different strengths. The different personalities, perspectives, body types, and experiences of the instructors here result in a well rounded curriculum and help students develop a great ground game. I highly recommend Rocha Jiu Jitsu to anyone interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and looking for a great work out.

Eduardo is one of the best jiu-jitsu instructors in the United States. His academy is well-run, clean and most of all, the jiu-jitsu you learn is world-class. He will help to resolve all the components of your game that need work.
The academy is appropriate for children and beginners all the way to aspiring world champions. Everyone can learn here.

This is a great academy with top level instruction. I started training here about six months ago as a blue belt with some gaps in my game and feeling plateaued. I really felt myself improve once I started training here. What I enjoy most is the very technical instruction. Eduardo has learned from and trained with the best. He has cultivated a training environment that is very welcoming, and the rest of the students are very respectful and great to work with, offering sound advice and technique help when needed. Rolling with one of Eduardo's brown or black belt students is a humbling experience and a testament to the quality of instruction. I tried several BJJ gyms in the bay area and am glad to have ended up here.

The coach at Six Blades was great for my then 6 year old. My kiddo learned a lot. However, my kid doesn’t want to do it anymore, and it’s been impossible to cancel the recurring payment. Can’t do it online, and the person in charge does not respond. I’ve been told I should just go to the studio and hope the person is there to speak face. Very silly in 2024.
