I can’t say enough great things about this place! From the moment I walked in, everyone made me feel welcome. The atmosphere is incredibly friendly—more like joining a family than just signing up for a class. Professor Martin and the coaches are patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely care about helping every student improve. My teammates are supportive, encouraging, and always willing to help you learn. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, this is the perfect place to train, grow, and feel at home. Highly recommend! 🥋♥️
An exceptional Jiu Jitsu club with an extraordinary community (review from both an adult and child perspective)
I’m writing this review on behalf of both myself and my six-year-old son, as we now train here together. If you’re browsing reviews to find what matters most to you, please skip to the appropriate section below. What we can both say from the outset, though, is simple: this club is special.
My son’s experience (ages: 4–6)
The children’s classes are exceptional. My son started in the Tiny Champions (4+) group and settled in remarkably quickly, thanks to professors who are patient, warm and brilliantly playful, yet always maintain safety and structure. They know exactly how to keep kids motivated, engaged and learning.
What truly sets this club apart is its atmosphere. Classes are welcoming, inclusive and full of joy. Boys and girls train together as equals, and it’s heartwarming to see older kids naturally helping and encouraging younger ones. It’s rare nowadays to find a space where kids of all ages mix so positively, showing respect, kindness and genuine team spirit.
The instructors strike the ideal balance between discipline and fun. Unlike some clubs that feel overly stern, competitive or money-driven, this place has a genuine family atmosphere while still delivering top-quality coaching. The kids learn far more than technique: co-operation, confidence, resilience, leadership and physical wellbeing without any of it being forced.
My son now trains about 4 hours a week and loves every minute. He’s not naturally competitive, yet still entered his first competition, lost, and immediately asked when he could do another. That says everything: he feels safe, supported and genuinely happy here.
If you’ve ever wondered where that old sense of youth-clubs and belonging went, honestly, it’s alive and well here. As one parent put it, this is more than a club, they’re building a family. It’s a privilege to watch so many young people thrive in such a positive space.
My experience as an adult beginner (ages: knocking on...)
After months of sideline watching and firmly in the “I’m too old/slow/podgy (ok fat) for this!” camp (think Gru from the Minions), I decided to join in and I’m so glad I did. From day one, I’ve found it massively welcoming, judgement free and surprisingly addictive.
Classes are superb: technically rich, structured and accessible whilst still challenging the more experienced. The coaches are knowledgeable, breaking down complex movements into simple, learnable steps, and incredibly supportive, and genuinely committed to helping each person progress at their own pace.
Training offers a great combination of strength, cardio, stretching, strategy and high-intensity bursts all rolled into one, in an environment where ego is left at the door.
The sessions are great for the body but also incredibly cathartic and good for mental wellbeing. Jiu Jitsu is deeply grounding, forcing you into the present moment, you can’t worry about inboxes or deadlines when you’re focused on moving, defending and problem-solving. Side note for the men who might dismiss the mental health side of things: genuinely, please don’t, and give this a go.
The wider club community is equally outstanding. Everyone from new white belts to experienced higher belts creates a welcoming, respectful, ego-free environment. People share tips, encourage progress, roll safely and ensure you never feel out of your depth. The camaraderie makes a huge difference when you’re starting something new. There’s no judgement here, only support.
Final Thoughts
This club stands out not just because of the high standard of coaching, or quality of training, but because of its ethos. It’s a place built on respect, kindness, discipline and genuine community spirit.
Whether you’re a parent looking for an enriching, confidence-building activity for your child, or an adult considering taking up Jiu Jitsu for fitness, confidence or mental wellbeing, I honestly couldn’t recommend this place more highly.
On the fence? Try it. You won’t regret it.
My boys absolutely love their Jiu Jitsu classes! The coaches are fantastic – patient, encouraging, and great with kids. They’ve not only learned amazing self-defence skills but also gained confidence, discipline, and focus. The atmosphere is always positive and supportive, and it’s wonderful to see how much they’ve grown since joining. Highly recommend to any parent looking for a great martial arts club for their children!
Fantastic local jiu-jitsu gym in Bramley.
The coaches are knowledgeable, patient, and really focused on helping everyone improve, whether you’re a complete beginner or have been training for years. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming — no ego, just good training and solid technique. Classes are well-structured, and there’s a great balance of drilling and sparring. Highly recommend to anyone looking to get fitter, build confidence, and learn real jiu-jitsu.
I highly recommend this school to everyone — there’s something for everyone here. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an advanced athlete preparing for competitions, you’ll find what you need.
The head coach is very experienced — a multiple-time champion of England and Europe, and a medalist in many tournaments. Trainings are professional, techniques are explained clearly, and the atmosphere is friendly and motivating.
I’ve been training here for many years — the coach has helped me grow both as an athlete and as a person.
The club also offers classes for children — my two daughters train here with joy, have gained confidence, and learned how to compete safely.
Truly the best club I’ve ever trained at — highly recommended!
I started training with Martin and the team at Gordo a year ago, and I was welcomed from my very first session. It can be intimidating starting at a new club, but I was made to feel part of the team right away. The coaches are knowledgeable, passionate, and truly care about their members. This is a genuinely fantastic place to train with great people. If you’re looking to learn jiu-jitsu, this is the place to do it.
An outstanding place with everything you need if you're interested in martial arts - the amazing coaches with tones of experience, amenities and a big group of friendly team members who make sure you will be warm-welcomed when you get there. This place feels like home!
I can't recommend Senshi Leeds enough!:)
This is not the first bjj place I have tried, but the one I will stick to. The community is amazing and makes you feel like you belong there. The masters have an extraordinary level of patience and knowledge which create the perfect environment to learn, but nonetheless to enjoy the experience. I honestly can't recommend this place enough.
I've trained on and off for most of my life but have never really stuck at bjj. I've been training at this gym for just over a year and think it's one of the best gyms around and I feel the strongest, fittest and most motivated I have ever done. The people that train are friendly and encourage you to learn and talk about bjj and the various techniques. There's a variety of skill levels at both gi and no gi and you can train any day of the week. This gym has no egos.
Martin and Dawid are both not only skillful competitors with years of experience at a high level but they have the ability to teach and show techniques in a clear way. Classes make sense and you get to work on a position and various techniques and how they flow over a series of weeks. They make bjj fun!
This gym is simply outstanding. Instructors are extremely professional and charismatic. Martin's mission and work ethic are inspiring and Dav's leglocks are from another planet. The community is super-supportive, with all sorts of people of different ages, beliefs and backgrounds. Absolutely recommended to anyone 🤙🤙🤙
This gym is the absolute best and I’m so glad I joined! The instructors are extremely knowledgable and experienced and have won countless medals from competing at the highest level. Everyone you train with is really approachable, friendly and more than willing to help you out.
BJJ as a martial art is great for getting in shape and really effective for self defence. So don’t delay any longer and make that first step through the door - you won’t regret it and you’re guaranteed a warm welcome. Stick at it and you’ll be amazed at the results and what you can achieve! See you on the mats :)
