The programs at Saratoga Kyokushin & Alliance BJJ have been a great experience for our entire family. The coaching is high-quality, with a strong focus on technique, conditioning, and continuous improvement. Classes are challenging but fun, and the atmosphere is supportive and motivating. Highly recommended for anyone serious about learning martial arts.
Posted 1 year agoAmazing martial arts school that offers outdoor education classes. Summer courses for kids and much more. I’ve been training Muay Thai here for 3 years now and have had a great experience with the coaches, fighters and practitioners that attend. Is super friendly and welcoming to all levels!
Posted 1 year agoFrom the moment I stepped on the mats, I knew this was more than just a gym — it’s a family. The atmosphere here is welcoming, supportive, and driven, and it all starts at the top with the coaching staff. Coach Jim is incredibly knowledgeable and detail-oriented. He has a way of breaking down techniques that makes complex movements feel simple and effective. Whether you’re brand new or an experienced grappler, he’ll meet you where you are and help you level up. But what truly sets Alliance Saratoga apart is Don Walton. Don isn’t just a coach — he’s the heart of the gym. He dedicates himself fully to the success and growth of everyone who trains here. His passion is unmatched. Don is the kind of guy who will stay late to help you drill, give you thoughtful advice after a tough roll, or message you just to make sure you’re feeling good after a hard week. His commitment is felt every single day — and it genuinely elevates the entire environment. Whether you’re training for competition, self-defense, or just want to be part of a positive and hard-working community, Alliance Saratoga delivers. The culture here is built on respect, pressure, and progress. If you’re looking for a gym that develops not just your Jiu Jitsu, but your mindset, confidence, and resilience — this is the
Posted 1 year agoSuch a great gym. I’ve tried the Mauy Thai, Kyokushin, and Jiu jitsu and they are all awesome. Instructors are all kind, talented, and give excellent feedback. Whether you are a casual hobbyist or wanting to compete this is the place to go!
Posted 1 year agoOsu!
Instruction was excellent !
Thanks for the drop in, great drilling and rolls.
The whole staff is amazing my 5 year old son has been going for about 4 months now . They are always patient and willing to go the extra mile . Great group of staff and kids to be around for my son. Thank you to all the amazing members and staff for everything.
Great place to grow in Jiu-Jitsu.
This place has helped me so much for the better. I was jumped my freshman year of highschool and was very weak. Along the way I have learned a lot from coaches like Don, Jim, Dan, Kyle and Scott. not only do I know how to defend myself but have gained many friends in the process It makes learning so much easier when you have almost a family to help you everyday get better physically and mentally. Thank you coach Don for introducing me into the Muay Thai program and making this place so comfortable to be. The jujitsu program offers a side to sports that I could get until I met these people along with their kyokushin and judo program. Everyone has a different way of teaching and different ways to look at things I recommend this gym to anyone in need of protection whether it be mentally or physically. Thank you for all you've done.
Welcoming, knowledgeable, variety of classes/options/ times, accommodate any age group 12/10
My son has been going there for 6 months & we’ve experienced nothing but the best. The way the coaches interact and treat the kids is top tier. 10/10 recommend
Amazing facility. Great equipment & GREAT coaches!!! i’ve been going to Alliance for about 2 years now and all I’m going to say is that if you’re looking for HIGH LEVEL training in any form of self defense like jiujitsu, mma, boxing, karate, judo etc, Alliance is the ONLY place you’ll get that at :)
I truly can’t say enough good things about this place. My son has been taking jujitsu here since January. My son is autistic, and has some trouble with self-regulation and impulse control. Jim and Don (and everyone else) have been so good with him. They allow him to be himself without letting him get away with acting out. I recently started taking classes here myself, and everyone has been so welcoming. I have no martial arts experience, and they have been totally willing to take the time to help me learn, and the more experienced students have been really good sports about helping the new girl. We love it here. They have a lot to offer. Jujitsu, Muay Thai, Karate, Judo…..lots of options for kids and adults.
Amazing crew of multi level martial artists that really make you feel comfortable while simultaneously pushing you to be better. My son and I both take classes and LOVE IT! Great community of teachers and fellow students that make us feel like family. OSS!
My son Ray is 8 years old and absolutely loves both the ju jitsu and muay thai classes. Asides from having the most enjoyable time every class I personally have noticed his confidence, athletic ability, attention to detail, and discipline increase in leaps and bounds. Coaches Jim and Don are extremely knowledgeable in there crafts but whats most amazing about them is there ability to teach what they know to children in a way that keeps it informative, interesting and most of all fun. I highly reccomend any child or adult to give it a try.
I’ve been training one on one Muay Thai with Donald Walton for quite some time now. He has a wealth of knowledge, and pushes me to the limit each and every time. He hosts kids programs, on multiple levels as well. This place is stacked with a barrage of mixed talent, to say the least. Highly recommended!
I can't say enough about the way Jim Brichac and his staff have treated us. I brought my daughter to take a few Muay Thai classes with Don Walton. That turned into BJJ classes as well. Her new found confidence and commitment are more than I could have asked for. 5 stars aren't enough when I look at what she has gained.
Excellent place to learn Martial Arts for kids and adults alike. Whether it be Kyokushin, Muay Thai or BJJ, clients experience top level coaching throughout. As a lifelong Martial Artist I highly recommend stopping in to see for yourself.
The uniqueness of this dojo is unmatched and the teachers are great. Shihan Jim Bruchac is a figure I looked up to at the very beginning of my journey in martial arts, and Saratoga Muay Thai taught by coach Don is one of my favorites. Couldn’t be more excited to see Thai Boxing grow more in Upstate New York.
Best place to train judo.
Fantastic kids program. The lessons taught and the character modeled by our dedicated instructors, both on and off the mats, are invaluable.
Great place to train jiu-jitsu! I train there because everybody is welcoming, kind, and humble; AND they produce excellent practitioners. The number of podium finishers from SKA in every tournament they enter is amazing. There are plenty of closer jiu-jitsu gyms to me, but I drive 35 minutes each way to go to class and it's completely worth it.
A one of a kind training environment. Family and beginner friendly as well as a stacked, active and welcoming competition team. A family atmosphere, instruction is top notch and always includes the latest evolution of technique. Definitely a light in my day!
Best place to experience near death! Great instructors and atmosphere.
I’ve been studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for close to 9 years, and I have taken classes and trained at many different schools during that time! I can tell you that this school is top notch! Everyone cares about and looks after one another, and it feels like one big family. And the professors, the technique, and the seminars are all top level!! I would encourage anyone thinking about training jiu jitsu to come see us and give it a try!
My boyfriend used to train here before he moved to California, so when we visit of course he comes back to train! He brought me along to try it and I loved it! Everyone was super welcoming and even though I had 0 knowledge of anything martial arts related, they were patient and willing to help me learn! Now every time we come visit I definitely make sure to make time to stop by. 10/10 would recommend!
You wont find a better place to train at. This is the most welcoming place Ive ever been to. The instructors and other students make you feel like you're part of the family from day one. No one judges you and everyone's always willing to help you learn and grow.
My son recently started at Alliance BJJ and he loves it so far. Very professional and caring professors, and an overall sense of camaraderie and respect at the dojo. Highly recommend.
I was welcomed to take a special guest class with a visiting teacher and found this to be a warm, welcoming and fun community. These folks truly love their art and what they offer is authentic and genuine. Highly recommend the experience. Great teachers and the school is (as is not always the case in the martial arts world) very welcoming to women.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
An amazing place with the highest quality instructors is only the beginning. All levels are welcome from recreational practitioners to world class competitors. All in a friendly, spirited environment. You really can’t ask for more.
Incredible instructors, clean mats, wonderful helpful students! A place I would highly recommend to anyone!
Great facility, run by awesome people. Highly recommended for anyone interested in learning martial arts.
I’ve been training here in Kyokushin Karate for over 5 years now. If your looking to learn real self defense in a fighting art with a real world application this is the place for you!
Amazing place and school friendliest people I know, come join
Excellent place to learn and train. Team is like family and the instructors are second to none.
The best possible place you could hope to start a martial art.
Amazing people to train with. Excellent and knowledgeable instructors. Professional environment.
With so many different styles of martial arts to offer like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kyokushin karate, judo along with kickboxing; this place this the only choice you should make if you want to take up martial arts. I’ve been coming to this school for 2 years and have had 8 years of martial arts experience elsewhere and this facility is easily the best in the area.
I trained here for 3 years before moving south. The instructors are super welcoming and very knowledgeable. On top of learning Jiu-Jitsu I met some great friends that I still keep and touch with. I visit and train with them every time I’m in town.
I have been training here for over two years and the level of quality, respect, and support has been amazing. I highly recommend this place for the beginner and the competitor. The atmosphere allows for both to coexist and allows for growth from within.
Excellent training and welcoming atmosphere for whatever level you wish to train. The Bruchac family have provided a great space for any interested in learning martial arts.
By far the most welcoming Jiu jitsu environment I’ve been in. The instructors are patient, friendly and just all around great at what they do. The higher ranked students are also very friendly and willing to help with anything you need. Absolutely love training here.
There is an honest sense of camaraderie on the mats. This trickles down from the great instructors. They are kind, knowledgeable and eager to see you succeed. They are on the cutting edge of techniques and make classes fun and challenging. It has been an honor training and learning from them in the past nearly 2 years.
As a decorated Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitor, I can say without a doubt there is no better place in the Capital Region for high level instruction. 5 stars, most definitely recommend.
Definitely a great place to learn at, patient instructors and a great atmosphere to learn in. Highly recommended
Jim and Jesse Bruchac are outstanding BJJ professors and they foster an extremely open and inviting environment based upon respect and honor in their dojo. All of the other teachers and students I have interacted with here have exemplified this same mentality. Combat sport training environments are notoriously tough to keep clean due to the sweat equity that is left on the mats, however I have never had any issues because they are cleaned on a daily basis to avoid issues with ringworm, etc.
I have been training in Brazilian Jiujitsu for 20 years. I’ve trained with many in the Capital region. The technique is very good and there’s a place for the recreational player and professional competitors alike. There is a strong camaraderie amongst all members. I’m especially impressed by the number of female practitioners there are. This is typically a sign of a school that is supportive and fosters a safe environment that nurtures respect. Not to mention that they also have showers on the premises. That’s a huge plus.
Wonderful family atmosphere. Great for kids and adults. Instructors are knowledgeable and experienced. Try it and you won’t be disappointed.
The professionalism and dedication of Shihan Jim Bruchac to the art of Jiu Jitsu are evident in the respectful and positive attitudes of every student that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting at Alliance BJJ in Saratoga. My 7yo son and I started training there in December 2019 and I am continuously impressed by the level of attention, instruction and patience each student receives regardless of belt or age. Highly recommended, get after it. Osss!
I’ve been training here for nearly 3 years and it’s lovely. Staff is lovely and training space is also great. Would highly recommend both adult & kids programs!
Excellent school to train at! Instructors are regularly working to increase their knowledge, mats are cleaned with bleach daily if not after every class to prevent ringworm and other issues, and it's a warm, welcoming environment. The curriculum is kept up to date and is based off of the Alliance Fundamentals and Intermediate courses, which has won at the world championships numerous times. Multiple showers and bathrooms on the premises.
I love this place everyone here is extremely supportive
From Karate to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to Muay Thai to Judo this place has it all. The instructors here are amazing and trustworthy with children and adults of all ages. Would recommend to anyone to go in and try out the free trial and see what classes work for you
I've trained for 11 years in this art .Their curriculum seems to be rather of competition theory than self defense or combat training.
