We are a Roger Gracie Academy. We use Gracie family’s system of Jiu-Jitsu provided and supervised by Roger Gracie himself to deliver the highest standards of Jiu-Jitsu instruction classes for adults and kids.
As a person with no former martial arts background I must say, Raf, Colin and the team have really helped me find a version of myself that I never knew existed.

This is a great club with a brilliant community feel. Raf is a fantastic coach and gives a lot of time to students. All the members are very friendly and welcoming.
Coach Raf is incredibly welcoming and understanding. I've been a member just about a year now and it's been brilliant. I travel a lot for work, and even after weeks away, coming back is always a treat. My old gym was nothing like this, so it was a bit of a culture shock, in a good way.
He's also seriously knowledgeable at every level of the game. A lot of black belts struggle to put themselves back in a white belt's shoes and remember that not everything clicks straight away. Raf isn't like that. He gets that everyone learns at a different pace, and honestly that's something loads of coaches in loads of sports just don't have.

Fantastic team and place for our son. He has really come along way with so much support and great teaching from Rafael. He has really grown in confidence and determination, earning his new belt and now competing. Such a friendly place that only wants the best for the students. Particularly like how the sessions are set out so our son can go as many days a week as he can, while still working around other commitments. Learning through failure whilst still pushing forward, has really helped him this year to see that the harder he works, the more he gets out of it.

I had the opportunity to meet Professor Rafael at the Roger Gracie Welwyn City Garden. I was in a training camp for 6 weeks and guess what- I became European Champion under his academy on the 15th of January 2026 Lisbon. He knows to approach to any athlete competitor or non competitor. Ever since I joined Roger Gracie Academy WGC, my whole life has revolved around this place. Years on, I'm still learning the true art of Jiu Jitsu and the principles of grappling. Professor Rafael and his instructors have been instrumental to my growth and my children's, teaching with professionalism, respect, patience, and genuine care. This academy is my main community and social hub, a real place of fraternity and friendship. It has also transformed my physical and mental health, and I'm grateful for it every day.
I recently moved from London to Hertfordshire and was fortunate to find an RGA affiliated academy here. I wasn't sure what to expect at first, but I couldn't be happier with the warm welcome I've received. From day one, Professor Rafael made me feel genuinely welcome, and everyone at the academy has been friendly, approachable, and supportive. In a short space of time, I’ve found some great training partners and have really enjoyed being part of the team.
The atmosphere is great, everyone pushes each other to improve while keeping training enjoyable and respectful. Highly recommended to anyone looking for top-tier BJJ and a genuinely welcoming environment.
Training at RGA WGC has been a great experience. Rafael and the other coaches are always looking around to help whenever needed and give everyone equal coaching. The sessions are well structured and follow on from previous sessions and teachings and I found this order of learning helpful as it enforces my memory of everything I've learnt so far. All the other students are amazing too, always helping out with things I find difficult or maybe get wrong from time to time and off the mat they are all really friendly. Rafael has built a real community here, one which I'm proud to be a part of and can hopefully continue to be a part of going forward
really great club to take the kids to learn, not to be violent but give them confidence that if they find themselves in a bad situation they have options to be able to make a safe decision to handle it, you wont be disappointed great club!!
I’ve had an amazing experience training at RGA WGC under Raphael. Even though I only come in for drop-ins, I always feel welcomed and part of the team. Raphael has created a friendly, inclusive atmosphere while maintaining high-level instruction, making every session both enjoyable and valuable.
What sets him apart is that he’s not just a great coach—he’s also an active competitor, constantly refining his skills and leading by example. His passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is evident, and he genuinely cares about helping everyone improve, whether you’re a regular student or just stopping by for a session.

This is a fantastic place to train with a really friendly vibe, I joined as a newbie and was made to feel very welcome from the first minute, it really does has a great vibe. Raf is a great professor and the lessons are really well structured. I have existing shoulder and knee injuries and we worked around these and made technical adaptions. I would highly recommend if you are either new to BJJ or seasoned practitioner.
Awesome club! Been at RGA for around 6 months now. Raphael is a brilliant coach, always on the mats, always competing and always has time to help you with your ju jitsu. Best coach I've come across so far on my Bjj journey. Some places are like cult and all about the money, Raf cares about your ju jitsu. The rest of the guys at the club are welcoming and really want to help. I feel very settled here now.
RGA Welwyn Garden city is the best club and team about.
My daughter attends Jiu Jitsu classes and during that time her confidence and discipline has greatly improved, the teachers are all friendly and very professional, who knows how to manage a class of 5 yo kids with great fun as the kids learn new techniques through play and the results definitely show. My daughter attends classes 3 times a week and will continue for sure . Great club with amazing teachers. I fully recommend 🤗
