I’ve been training at Pure Art for just over a year now. The atmosphere is incredibly friendly and welcoming. I started not knowing a single thing about BJJ but Adam and the other instructors are very patient and happy to answer any questions I have. I’m still early in my journey but I’m so glad I started training here. Highly recommend to anyone who’s even slightly interested!

I have been training at Pure Art BJJ for almost a year now and all I can say is that I wish I had started sooner. Coach Adam is a knowledgeable, patient and supportive instructor who goes above and beyond. Adam has cultivated a hugely respectful club filled with incredibly sound men and woman of all ages. I truly recommend this club, and Adam as a teacher for beginners. Starting my first class initially felt like a huge leap because I was so apprehensive, but I'm so glad I found the courage to walk through that door. The welcome I received was genuinely warm and inviting. Over the last three months, I've relished this experience far more than I ever anticipated. The techniques are so clear and easy to grasp. Plus, Adam is amazing because he constantly monitors everyone to ensure we're all keeping up and doing okay. If you're ever nervous about starting a new club or any martial arts just remember it's normal to feel like that. Walk through that door!!! :)
After being to a couple of different Brazilian Jiu - jistu gyms in Portsmouth Pure art is by far the best. Have been here a couple of months it’s a Great friendly atmosphere, Great Coaching by Adam and other higher ranked belts, choice between Gi and No GI BJJ. And Great Fun!!
As someone completely new to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, joining Pure Art BJJ has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Walking into any martial arts gym for the first time can feel intimidating, but the atmosphere here is genuinely welcoming and supportive. Adam has been incredible from day one. He’s patient, clear in his explanations, and always makes sure beginners feel comfortable without ever talking down to us. He breaks down techniques in a way that makes them easy to understand, and he always checks in to make sure everyone—regardless of experience—feels safe and confident during training. What I appreciate most is how the entire gym culture encourages learning at your own pace. There’s no ego, no pressure, and absolutely no feeling that you need to prove yourself. Instead, you’re surrounded by people who help you grow, celebrate your progress, and make training something you genuinely look forward to. If you are thinking about starting BJJ, I can’t recommend Pure Art BJJ enough. It’s a place where you’ll be respected, supported, and pushed to become the strongest version of yourself.

I started with Pure Art last year and found a really friendly, supportive group, great teaching, structure, variety and lots of classes to choose from. BJJ is fun, fascinating, safe and addictive and with the venue being easily accessible with lots of mat space and plenty of free parking it’s easy to get involved in. Maybe the greatest compliment I could give is I can find nothing whatsoever to fault! Thoroughly enjoyed starting and look forward to continuing my BJJ journey with Pure Art!
Posted 1 year agoPure Art is a fantastic BJJ gym. I have been training a few years and been to a few gym and pure art is the most welcoming. The beginners classes are perfectly designed to help individuals learn new skills with a level of support you wouldn’t get in other gyms.

Posted 1 year agoA great club for anyone to come and try whether you’ve previously trained or you are brand new to the sport. Adam is a great teacher always ready and willing to help new and experienced members, driving a positive and friendly atmosphere. The standard of training is exceptional, with sessions accommodating to anyone from day one all the way to the highest levels. He has built a great community and I am glad to be a part of the club!

I had a great experience at this club for a long time. It has an amazing atmosphere, full of lovely people. However, Adam lacks people skills and shows clear favouritism. If he likes you, you'll have a great time, otherwise you'll basically be non-existent to him. He also only has the mats cleaned once a week, so if you're at all concerned about hygiene I would give it a miss. I lost count of the amount of times I got ringworm from them. The main membership is advertised as unlimited training, but that is not the case if you are new. You will only be permitted to train at half of the classes, until he decides to promote you. EDIT: Cannot believe you have the gaul to make these points to me over text and then ignore my reply. I have addressed your pitiful response already. My review is not vindictive, it is honest, I have given props where due and merely written my opinion Hilarious that instead of responding to my points you feel it is necessary to bring up something that happened years ago now and essentially to attack my character. I was not unhappy about you asking me to be more punctual, rather the unnecessarily threatening way which you did so. I have a life outside of this club and sometimes that gets in the way. But I paid for this membership, and it is only myself that I am harming by missing the first couple minutes. I also go out of my way to drive people to your classes who otherwise wouldnt be able to train, which adds even more time on to my journey. With that in mind, and also everything else I have done for your clubs benefit, it is not unreasonable to feel i deserve to be spoken to with decency. You have brought up personal vendettas and made them public, while I gave a fair review. This does not paint you in a good light. Do you actually think that I was training while I had ringworm? Not a chance. I do not care that you 'didn't make an exception', I was understanding of you reasons and that was never ever an issue. Again you are digging for ways to discredit me instead of addressing my actual issues which I have already told to you. I do not care that you 'wouldn't make an exception' for my friend. I was very understanding of your reasons and left it at that. The problem stemmed from the way you humiliated him in his first class, simply because of a problem with his payment. You also expect other people to teach your Saturday class, but are still overly controlling over what is taught. Your assistants were volunteers and should be allowed to teach what they feel comfortable teaching, seeing as they are not as high level as you. Otherwise teach the class yourself. The problem is not at my end. It is at yours, and you should see this given the amount of people who have left recently. Your reply ends 'hope this explains my side of things' it doesn't. You have simply made our disagreement public, as you have already said all this to me. Would reiterate your lack of a reply to my response.
