Such an incredible group of people! If you’ve been on the fence about trying it out , DO IT! My kid and I joined a little over a month ago and have already learned so much. Every class is something we look forward to. Huge props to Matt and everyone here for building such an amazing place for the community!

A group of us from the company went there yesterday for a self-defense class, and it was, in a word, amazing. Matt and Keri were both phenomenal. I’m looking forward to going back for another one!

This is a fantastic place to learn Jiu Jitsu. They have a well thought out curriculum that is posted with short videos on their website. You can view these videos before or after class. Each lesson has precise learning objectives and is presented in a clear and concise manner. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.

I’m in the area visiting family for the holidays and wanted to get in a few rolls. After reaching out through their website, Coach Matt responded within minutes, which was awesome. I dropped by for the Saturday open mat and was immediately welcomed with open arms. The team at Oneonta Jiu Jitsu Academy was super friendly, supportive, and made for some really fun rolls. If you’re traveling through the Oneonta area, I highly recommend reaching out to Coach Matt for a drop-in session—it’s absolutely worth it. The family-like environment is a breath of fresh air compared to other gyms I’ve visited. And if you live in the area and want to get into grappling, stop by for a free trial—this group is incredible. Thanks again for such a great experience. I’ll definitely be back!

Reached out to Oneonta Jiu Jitsu through Instagram while in town for a wedding. Matt, gym owner, got back to me quickly and invited me in for an open mat training session. The people were friendly, the room was clean, and the skill level covered white through black belt so there was good training available for all people. Would recommend for anybody in the area looking to start.

I train at 10th Planet Burbank and my son was playing in a baseball tournament in Oneonta, New York. I called the Oneonta Jiu Jitsu Academy a couple of weeks before we left and their owner, Matt Martindale, invited me to come in and train with them for the week I was in town. Not only was the instruction excellent and very well organized but their entire team could not have been more welcoming and helpful. They have students of all ages and levels and I was lucky to train with several very high-level young wrestlers, law enforcement professionals, and some very knowledgeable and talented brown and black belts. I came to them as a stranger but left having gained some new friends and a great deal of knowledge after only a few days. I would highly recommend training at Oneonta Jiu Jitsu Academy.

This is my very first time ever doing ju jitsu. I started in October. I am a slow learner. The staff and instructor made me feel welcome and they are patient teaching me. Here it is November and I have learned so much. I am so glad I go here and do ju jitsu. I highly recommend any one to go here.

Was traveling through the area and stopped in for a no-gi practice. Wyatt (coach) and the guys who were there were friendly and welcoming. Mats were clean and there was plenty of space to get some good rounds in with competitive guys. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area looking for a bjj gym.

We are a family of 7 and six of us train regularly at oneonta Jiu jitsu academy and number 7 can't wait until he turns 5 to join the rest of us. The kids who participate now are between the ages of 5 and 10. The instructors at ojja are extremely patient and really care about the kids. The gym fosters personal growth with a friendly and safe environment that encourages you to be the best version of yourself. We love Jiu jitsu for our kids, because it's a great way to learn self-defense and life skills such as being comfortable in the uncomfortable. It also gives kids the opportunity 2 learn how to handle their emotions and the important skill of being a good sport when winning or losing. The owners of the gym have created a friendly and safe environmentand continually strive to make it more family and kid friendly. The women's program has been growing steadily. And even has an all-women class on Saturdays. They also reach out to the community by offering a free women's self-defense class the first Friday of every month. Both the basic and advanced classes have something for everyone, and quality people to train with. If you are looking for a safe place to learn self defense as a family and to stay healthy, Oneonta Jiu Jitsu Academy is a great place to be. Take advantage of their 1 week free trial. No experience necessary.

If you're looking for a place to get in shape or even learn self defense. Then Oneonta Jiu Jitsu Academy is where you wanna go. They have a variety of different classes for all and it's open seven days a week. They even have a large and growing kid's program. This place is my second home and proud to be apart of it.

Over the last 5 years at Oneonta Jiu Jitsu I have lost 60+ lbs, gotten into the best shape of my life and made lifelong friends in the process. OJJA is a place where absolutely anyone can come and feel welcome, have a good time and get an excellent workout. On top of all of that the level of instruction in outstanding, from the massive kids classes on up. OJJA is a true diamond in the rough.

If you are looking for a great place to train with a family atmosphere look no further, if your looking to become a jiu jitsu all-star with all the competition experience, you have found your place! With such a homogeneous mixture of ages and body sizes you are almost guaranteed a great experience. The coaches are too notch and truly care about their students, members or visitors, no mat fee for popping in and there's classes 7 days a week! Matt Martindale and Wyatt Green have built the jiu jitsu field of dreams, now all that's left is for you to come!

I love learning jiu jitsu at this gym. The coaches are great and very supportive of students. The adult classes are available at several days/times and everyone is welcoming and willing to help each other learn. My son also learns jiu jitsu here and he definitely loves it and really looks up to his coaches. A very positive environment for everyone.

I've been training here for over a year and this gym is fantastic. The level commitment and dedication the coaches and upper belts show to both newcomers and established members is unparalleled. It is always a positive environment and a great place to get started for beginners or to enhance you're game if you have been practicing for a while. The competition team training is top notch and the team is very active in both local and national tournaments. I highly recommend this place for both casual and professional jujitsu practitioners.

Traveling for work and was looking for a place to train. I contacted them ahead of time and Matt was very friendly and invited me to stop in. Don’t let the sketchy looking outside scare you away. The dojo was nice and plenty of mat space. Everyone was friendly and welcoming and great to train with. Instruction was presented well and easy to follow with good details and tweaking of technique. Whether you live nearby or are traveling, if you are looking for a place to train, I highly recommend you check out Oneonta Jiu Jitsu Academy. I know I’ll be stopping in next time I’m in the area.
