My wife and I recently started training BJJ with the guys at Nova Geracao in Haverhill, mainly to improve our fitness and do something social. We had no martial arts backgrounds and if we're honest we were a little unsure what it would all be like trying something new in our late 30s. That anxiety was quickly overcome after our first session when we were welcomed into the BJJ world by Roger, Jason, and the guys at Nova Geracao. Everyone is so friendly, knowledgeable, and supportive and we really enjoy going in for classes a few times a week ever since. It's been great learning new skills, building our confidence, meeting awesome people and improving our fitness. These training sessions are always the highlights of our week, which is saying something as I've never really been that interested in fitness until now! If you're on the fence about having a go I'd highly recommend popping along to the Fundamentals (basics) class. There's a variety of skill levels in these basics classes and they'll gradually take you through the basics. You'll be surprised how much you pick up in only a few sessions! They normally offer a few free sessions and then an introduction course for 8 weeks. Jason runs the fundamentals and he builds you up with a range of basic techniques. You then test what you've learnt with some sparring rolls at the end of each session. These classes are No Gi so you just need shorts and gym tee to get you started. Roger is an absolute wizard and runs the main classes, offering his expertise and guidance in both Gi and No Gi classes, multiple times a week. At the moment adult classes are: Monday - 1930 Gi Tuesday - 1800 No Gi Fundamentals, 1930 No Gi Main Class. Wednesday - 1930 Gi Thursday - 1800 No Gi Fundamentals, 1930 No Gi Main Class. Friday nights and Weekend mornings often have Open Mat sessions (varies on a week by week basis) where you can turn up and have a go at rolling, without direct training. They also offer kids classes so give Roger a shout to find out more about that side too. Honestly, you wont regret having a go at this - we certainly haven't and we can't wait to get back in for some rolls next week! A massive thank you to Roger, Jason and the everyone for welcoming us to club, and for all their support and guidance over these last few months 🤙🏻

Never done any sort of combat training in my life and was getting bored of countless years in the gym. Decided to learn a new skill and maintain fitness and BJJ was recommended. Feel very lucky to have such a welcoming club local to me with a full range of members. Everyone makes you welcome and there is a wealth of knowledge to learn from. Thank you Rogerio and team.
