I had a great experience with Professor Charlie and his students. It’s great sign when you are visiting from out of town and they treat you like this is your homeschool. Quality instruction and quality environment. Stop in if you’re ever visiting and definitely consider them if you live in the area.

I travel the country for work and try to train as much as possible when I’m out of town. I stopped here my first night in Louisiana, and this gym did not disappoint. Awesome people that gave me great rounds. I definitely will be there as much as possible when I’m out here.

I wish I had this place as an option when I started out before! The instructor is overwhelmingly qualified and encourages you to focus on doing the move correctly. Everyone there is extremely friendly towards beginners and the atmosphere is perfect for learning while getting in shape. I'm already trying to get friends that were interested but worried about going to a macho gym and getting hurt. This was especially true for my wife but she went to one class and is hooked now.

Clean mats, excellent instruction, and friendly members from all walks of life. Not only is Charlie an excellent jiu-jitsu practitioner/instructor, but he's also incredibly personable and cares about your progress. There were always 3 or more black belts on the mat and many other upper belts to learn from. This is the place to train if you are in New Orleans.

Phenomenal first day of BJJ training. Charlie was awesome as well as his facility. He took the extra time before class to go over a few things with me and let me know that I can train at my own pace if take breaks as needed. Everyone there was awesome and wanted me to learn. I'm hooked.

I love New State Fitness!! Every time you step on the mats it's a New State. I'm forever a beginner and trying to learn new ways and I couldn't ask for more from a home gym. The personal relationships I've made and transgressed Jiu-Jitsu and spur growth in all facets of my life. With Jiu-Jitsu anything is possible if you are open to it and there is some magic within these walls that opens opportunities at every turn. Grab your gi and c'mon!! Showers available

Awesome place to train! I was traveling and Professor Charlie was very inviting for me and 2 friends to come into his gym. He allowed us to wear our own gis that we wear at our home schools too. His school is full of really awesome people as well and has white belts to black belts! Really relaxed atmosphere too! Next time I'm in NOLA, I'm definitely going back!!

If you have never trained jiu jitsu - this is the type of place you want to start. If you have experience in jiu jitsu - this is the type of place you want to end up. I train in Pensacola but travel throughout the southeast for work and sometimes try and train while traveling. So I get to see all types of gyms and all types of practitioners and instructors. Everyone here is super welcoming and unbelievably nice. The instructor Charlie has created an atmosphere that fosters friendly competition, attention to detail, great workouts, great jiu jitsu, but no pressure or intimidation sometimes found other places. Highly recommend to all levels.

This isn't just for adults! I have watched my then 7 year old come out of his shell and build the self confidence that a 13 year old should have in only 18 months. He absolutely loves it and looks forward to it. He enjoys the coaches, class and kids. It really is a peaceful art. I will always recommend Charlie to anyone looking to put a little exercise, discipline, self esteem, and fun in their child.

This place is a where real Jiu Jitsu is taught. I am in the military and I travel a lot, so its hard to find good gyms. Charlie and everyone at New state fitness welcomed me as a friend. The curriculum taught by the Black belts was outstanding. Also the conditioning, drilling, and live rolling was challenging and a lot of fun. Whenever Im in the New Orleans area I will stop in. I would recommend this place to anybody.

Jiu jitsu has changed my life is almost every aspect and I owe it all to Charlie whom was the first to introduce it to me. Come try it out(even bring a friend), stick with it, and you wont regret it. Amazing place to train!

I cannot say enough good words about my experience. The instruction is presented in a simple and concise way. The presented techniques are very effective. The instruction additionally includes variations and accommodates all skill levels. More importantly, Charlie has developed an enriching class culture founded upon friendliness and respect. My work day takes a very positive spin when I attend the afternoon class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. My life has significantly improved since joining and I recommend this school to anyone who is interested in having a positive jiu jitsu experience.

Coach Charlie is a very skilled jiu jitsu practitioner that has a knack for teaching the art. He instantly knows how to design programs taylored to what a student is good at and what he/she needs to work on. Classes are detailed and students are encouraged to ask questions throughout the class. The progress that you will see from his teaching is very obvious. He has helped me develop my skills as a grappler as well. Coach Charlie knows techniques that are simple to grasp yet effective. I enjoy learning from him. He also has an awesome kickboxing instructor Coach Luis who is extremely knowledgable in the art. I encourage people to give this place a try. Everyone has goals that are different. It may be you want to learn self defense, compete as a grappler or fighter, or just start a hobby, you definitely will feel at home here.
