Great school, great people! I was on vacation with my family and looking for a place to train. Called to see if they offered drop ins and was told to come on in. Everything was great. Highly recommend. Wish I lived closer so I could stop in and train more often. Will train here in the future anytime I am in the area.

I dropped in from out of town and had an awesome experience at Matt Secor BJJ. The coaches and students were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. They made me feel right at home and were especially helpful and encouraging with my 7-year-old son, who also trains. Great rolls, great instruction, and an even better atmosphere. Highly recommend to anyone passing through or looking for a solid gym to train at!

I typically train in North Carolina but I dropped in while visiting because a buddy trains here. Great guys in the class and the professor was very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to learn!

We enrolled our 8 yo son in classes at this academy back in 2019. Since then, my husband decided to attend at Matt Secor’s as a hobby to get in shape and then we started sending my younger daughter once a week to acquire some self defense. This place, over the years has became a second home and family to us. The coaches are amazing and they are supportive of your BJJ goals. Matt Secor’s facility is clean, has plenty of mat space, and has a solid recovery room.
My son has been training here almost 4 years and his level of confidence has improved drastically. The bonds he's built is unmatched. My husband started training 2 years ago and absolutely loves it too. The professors & coaches here are phenomenal and professional. Highly recommend this academy for anyone looking to try something new, gain confidence, get in better physical shape, be a part of an amazing community, or get out of their comfort zone. 5 stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Professors, coaches, and other teaching staff are experts, students and instructors are welcoming and accommodating of any skill level high or low, and the facility is clean and well maintained.
After thinking about it for a couple of years, I finally walked through the door about seven months ago. I signed myself and our four yr old daughter up for classes and it is one of the best, if not the best, decisions I have made in the past year. If you are on the metaphorical fence about it, do not hesitate to walk through the door and check it out. Do not put it off for years like I did. The instructors are phenomenal with kids. They teach as if each individual kid is their own child. Instruction is about ensuring the kids are having fun and enjoying themselves to keep them motivated and wanting to come back. The kids learn focus, self-confidence, problem solving, critical-thinking, communication, and respect all while exercising, learning jiu jitsu, and playing games. The adult classes are also fun but not in the same way as the kids classes. Adult classes are more focused on BJJ and individual progress. You get to learn more about yourself and gain confidence. You learn that you do have the ability to do things that have seemed out of your reach or skillset. I do not come for the adult classes as often as I would like, but every time I walk through the door for class I am treated as if I haven't missed a day. Everyone is unconditionally supportive of each other and you will receive whatever effort you decide to put in. Pricing is extremely reasonable with an insane discount to service members (active, reserve, vet, police, etc). Kids classes are 45min and adult classes are one hour.
Both of my boys attend MSBJJ! We cannot say enough positives about this academy. Coach Ellis, Coach Ethan, Coach Chris and Coach Terry are absolutely incredible. The patience that they have with all students there is absolutely incredible. Coach Ellis knows what his students are capable of and pushes them to go past their limit. He gets to know all of his students. They treat everyone who attends like gold! We are lifelong members!
The training that I have recieed at matt secors bjj has been unparalleled. The coaches there are some of the best around. My kids train here as well, the kids coaches are great at meeting each kid at their level and making their training fun. While attending these classes they will push you to better yourself with bjj, and in every aspect in your life. The coaches are about bettering yourself as a person and for self defense. I would highly recommend matt secors bjj for adults and children.

Great space, amazing instructors, and a very chill environment. My kids and I both go. Professor Derek and soon to be Professor Chris are incredible with the kids classes. Best coaches of any sports around for kids. Oh, and great exercise too. I lost 60 pounds in my first year!
Was up in the area for a couple days, and came in to train as a walk in. Everybody was super cool and welcoming. Instructors were all very knowledgable and gave a lot of attention. A lot of legit guys with a ton of skill. If you're looking for a gym definitely come check this place out.
Never been there, but wholly cow... The word on the street is unparalleled. I'm giving five stars to any martial arts school with over 100 reviews with 5 stars. When I retire I will apply for membership here maybe, unless Shoulin makes a comeback.

I'm a grappler out of Syracuse, NY, and am in camp right now getting ready for comp season. Decided to drive out to Albany to check out Matt's place and get some hard rounds in. From the moment I walked in everyone was very friendly. It was 10 minute rounds with some high-level studs and I got the work in I felt was needed to supplement my normal regimen. Between situational passing rounds, circling up and discussing technique after, and the general camaraderie the members have with each other, I had a great time. If you're thinking about dropping in, it's worth whatever drive you have to make. If you're looking to learn jiu-jitsu in the Albany area, this is the only spot worth going to. Oh yeah, no drop-in fees. So what're you waiting for?
Coaches are nice and understanding, really helped set up the basic concepts for jiu jitsu.
Took my 1st free lesson and decided to sign up on the spot! Ended up getting along with everyone and seeing a few familiar faces and was a very welcoming atmosphere.

Kids Classes: consist of varying levels of skill, ages K-8, usually begin with a warm-up followed by skills/instruction/critique and then practice • Seating for parents and siblings • Open mat time on weekends--kids can attend in addition to classes. Three classes/week is typical, 45 minute class, around 5-7pm.

Great place to train. I was graciously allowed to train while in town for work and learned some great details that will help my techniques. The instructor was very knowledgeable and welcoming. All my training/rolling partners were very skilled and knowledgeable. I highly recommend checking them out.
Great atmosphere for BJJ. Easy choice to train here if you're local. There are lots of different class times, both for adults and children. They even take young kids. It's always clean, the staff are always nice and helpful. I can't think of one issue, and my boys have been going here for over a year now.

I was visiting family for Thanksgiving and decided to drop in to take a couple classes. The team, coaches, and owner were super friendly and hospitable. They are very knowledgeable and made sure that everyone understood what was being taught/drilled. The gym itself was really clean and spacious. Definitely recommend this place if you wanted to learn jiu jitsu in the area.
The instructors were amazing with the kids! Made it fun and silly while keeping them focused, I was smiling like the whole time and my younger son was sitting with me doing everything they were doing (he has to be 4) it was great! My 5 year old caught on so quick for his first class with excellent instruction, demonstrations and practice. My 5 year old loved it and was talking about it all week leading up to the next class!!! Highly recommend.

Was visiting Lake George and dropped in for the 10am No Gi class. What a welcoming location. Professor Secor has an awesome academy with great students. Everyone was welcoming and Professor Secor spoke with my brother and myself after class for almost 30mins. I have trained at many locations through the country and this spot is top notch. If I lived in this area this would be my home academy.
Was visiting Lake George for the week and decided to drop in. Immediately felt comfortable. The owner instantly acknowledged me when I walked in and welcomed me. Stopped in for an open mat and everyone was very welcoming. Had a one on one conversation with most of the people that were there. Great vibes and the coach was even actively coaching some lower belts during their open rolls. I think that’s a huge plus for them to get that time. If I lived in the area this would be the place I would chose to train.

I came here without any expectations but to improve my jiu jitsu, and I'm blown away by how welcoming and hospitable Matt and his team have been to me. The facility is exceptionally clean and it's a comfortable environment to train. The instruction is excellent and had me sweating more than I probably ever have. You'll be seeing more of me for sure.
I was very fortunate and privileged to recently learn from Matt Secor. His attention to detail is second to none. But what stood out equally to me was his ability to transfer his knowledge to the student base. I highly recommend any course, class or lesson with Mr. Secor.
Absolutely fabulous place to visit. Super clean, enormous matt space, shower, big changing rooms. People were welcoming and friendly. My only complaint is that they don't have merch on site! I would have loved to walk away with something after such a great experience.
If you want to train Jiu-jitsu, this is a great place. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. The instruction is excellent. Beautiful gym. Very clean, vibrant and well set up. Secor is super fun coach. Very welcoming and talented people in the gym. Had some great rolls and a lot of fun hanging out. Recommend to anyone looking for some fun rolls, learn some awesome jiujitsu and to just have a good time.

Wow. There is not enough time and space to verbalize the great experience at Matt Secor BJJ. Immediately, Matt/Professor/Owner greeted me with open arms and welcomed me to the tribe. I was treated as a regular student despite being a drop in for a week. There I quickly learned Matt has a great formula for success. His wall is covered with motivational punchlines that are actually administered in class. Matt sees the good in all his students and seeks greatness from each one at their respective level. Great academy with an amazing program. Teaching the fundamental principles of Jiu Jitsu. Professor Secor and Professor Gron's attention to detail are outstanding and their instruction is thorough and followed up nicely by the other coaches.
