Great school, great people! I was on vacation with my family and looking for a place to train. Called to see if they offered drop ins and was told to come on in. Everything was great. Highly recommend. Wish I lived closer so I could stop in and train more often. Will train here in the future anytime I am in the area.

I dropped in from out of town and had an awesome experience at Matt Secor BJJ. The coaches and students were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. They made me feel right at home and were especially helpful and encouraging with my 7-year-old son, who also trains. Great rolls, great instruction, and an even better atmosphere. Highly recommend to anyone passing through or looking for a solid gym to train at!

We enrolled our 8 yo son in classes at this academy back in 2019. Since then, my husband decided to attend at Matt Secor’s as a hobby to get in shape and then we started sending my younger daughter once a week to acquire some self defense. This place, over the years has became a second home and family to us. The coaches are amazing and they are supportive of your BJJ goals. Matt Secor’s facility is clean, has plenty of mat space, and has a solid recovery room.

My son has been training here almost 4 years and his level of confidence has improved drastically. The bonds he's built is unmatched. My husband started training 2 years ago and absolutely loves it too. The professors & coaches here are phenomenal and professional. Highly recommend this academy for anyone looking to try something new, gain confidence, get in better physical shape, be a part of an amazing community, or get out of their comfort zone. 5 stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

After thinking about it for a couple of years, I finally walked through the door about seven months ago. I signed myself and our four yr old daughter up for classes and it is one of the best, if not the best, decisions I have made in the past year. If you are on the metaphorical fence about it, do not hesitate to walk through the door and check it out. Do not put it off for years like I did. The instructors are phenomenal with kids. They teach as if each individual kid is their own child. Instruction is about ensuring the kids are having fun and enjoying themselves to keep them motivated and wanting to come back. The kids learn focus, self-confidence, problem solving, critical-thinking, communication, and respect all while exercising, learning jiu jitsu, and playing games. The adult classes are also fun but not in the same way as the kids classes. Adult classes are more focused on BJJ and individual progress. You get to learn more about yourself and gain confidence. You learn that you do have the ability to do things that have seemed out of your reach or skillset. I do not come for the adult classes as often as I would like, but every time I walk through the door for class I am treated as if I haven't missed a day. Everyone is unconditionally supportive of each other and you will receive whatever effort you decide to put in. Pricing is extremely reasonable with an insane discount to service members (active, reserve, vet, police, etc). Kids classes are 45min and adult classes are one hour.

Both of my boys attend MSBJJ! We cannot say enough positives about this academy. Coach Ellis, Coach Ethan, Coach Chris and Coach Terry are absolutely incredible. The patience that they have with all students there is absolutely incredible. Coach Ellis knows what his students are capable of and pushes them to go past their limit. He gets to know all of his students. They treat everyone who attends like gold! We are lifelong members!

The training that I have recieed at matt secors bjj has been unparalleled. The coaches there are some of the best around. My kids train here as well, the kids coaches are great at meeting each kid at their level and making their training fun. While attending these classes they will push you to better yourself with bjj, and in every aspect in your life. The coaches are about bettering yourself as a person and for self defense. I would highly recommend matt secors bjj for adults and children.

I'm a grappler out of Syracuse, NY, and am in camp right now getting ready for comp season. Decided to drive out to Albany to check out Matt's place and get some hard rounds in. From the moment I walked in everyone was very friendly. It was 10 minute rounds with some high-level studs and I got the work in I felt was needed to supplement my normal regimen. Between situational passing rounds, circling up and discussing technique after, and the general camaraderie the members have with each other, I had a great time. If you're thinking about dropping in, it's worth whatever drive you have to make. If you're looking to learn jiu-jitsu in the Albany area, this is the only spot worth going to. Oh yeah, no drop-in fees. So what're you waiting for?

Kids Classes: consist of varying levels of skill, ages K-8, usually begin with a warm-up followed by skills/instruction/critique and then practice • Seating for parents and siblings • Open mat time on weekends--kids can attend in addition to classes. Three classes/week is typical, 45 minute class, around 5-7pm.

The instructors were amazing with the kids! Made it fun and silly while keeping them focused, I was smiling like the whole time and my younger son was sitting with me doing everything they were doing (he has to be 4) it was great! My 5 year old caught on so quick for his first class with excellent instruction, demonstrations and practice. My 5 year old loved it and was talking about it all week leading up to the next class!!! Was visiting Lake George and dropped in for the 10am No Gi class. What a welcoming location. Professor Secor has an awesome academy with great students. Everyone was welcoming and Professor Secor spoke with my brother and myself after class for almost 30mins. I have trained at many locations through the country and this spot is top notch. Was visiting Lake George for the week and decided to drop in. Immediately felt comfortable. The owner instantly acknowledged me when I walked in and welcomed me. Stopped in for an open mat and everyone was very welcoming. Had a one on one conversation with most of the people that were there. Great vibes and the coach was even actively coaching some lower belts during their open rolls. I think that’s a huge plus for them to get that time. If I lived in the area this would be the place I would chose to train.

Wow. There is not enough time and space to verbalize the great experience at Matt Secor BJJ. Immediately, Matt/Professor/Owner greeted me with open arms and welcomed me to the tribe. I was treated as a regular student despite being a drop in for a week. There I quickly learned Matt has a great formula for success. His wall is covered with motivational punchlines that are actually administered in class. Matt sees the good in all his students and seeks greatness from each one at their respective level. Thank you for giving me a great experience. If anyone is in the area on vacation or this is your local area stop in and you will be a regular student. Matt even extended the invite to utilize his gym to my wife and my son. Their experience was outstanding as well. My wife is on and off due to child care but she was extremely comfortable yet challenged at Matt Secor. My son is 5 and his class was impressive. Shout out to Coach Derek and Chris for the detailed and caring approach to their teachings to the kids. Oos...

Matt, and all the dojo’s members are exemplary role models, kind, and personable. There is an adult, and kids class, I don’t have children but if I did, they would be in that class. You can trust Matt and his instructors to teach you how to defend yourself, and what they teach is most certainly useful. Don’t look anywhere else, this isn’t a phony dojo, you will learn serious skills here. Big thanks to Matt, and his team.

Let's put the BJJ aside for a second, which is first class training, by the way. Let's talk about accountability, facing fears, setting goals, making a plan for those goals, learning how to put in the work for those goals, picking yourself up when you get knocked down, learning right from wrong, standing up for yourself, admitting when you make a mistake and building a leader. Let's talk about how controversy exposes character. Do you want friends who will turn their backs on you or friends who will be in your corner? If you want what's listed above, or maybe more importantly, do you want that for your children? -Then MSBJJ is for you. Who are you surrounding yourself with? If you want to be a lion, surround yourself with lions.
