positive atmosphere, great training partners, and professor Alex is so patient with the kids-- which is something that is very important to me that i was specifically looking for in a school. i feel like i learn a lot in his adult classes and my kids are absorbing everything in their classes as well! so thankful we found legion!
We have been with Legion since they opened their doors in 2018. When you train jiu jitsu you find yourself learning not just a martial art but also what your capable of. My husband and I decided to sign our daughter ( 9yrs old at the time, now nearly 13) for self defense. Legion Jiu Jitsu has done wonders on her self confidence, has embraced us as family to the point our 5 and 3 year olds, my husband and myself have joined. Professor Gabriel is a great instructor, always encouraging. He and the other coaches have created a positive and inclusive environment. Legion also offers a women’s program that is incredible as well, the women are welcoming and very supportive. There are exclusive women’s only classes on Friday nights and Saturday mornings. I love being apart of Legion.

This is really a great Jiu Jitsu school. There is really something here for everyone of any level of ability and experience, from little kids classes and adult beginner classes, to women's and competition classes. Whatever your goal is for Jiu Jitsu, the black belts and coaches here work hard to make sure you're on the right path. It really has a family oriented vibe and it's really welcoming to newcomers. Highly recommend this school.
My Boro gym for three years, and it's the best place for me to train my mind, body, and soul here. Everyone is nice, especially Professor Gabe, and his staff are second to none in training when it comes to students.

I began training at Legion BJJ’s Murfreesboro location just over a month ago. In that time, I have had so many people welcome me and make me feel a part of the Legion community. From instructors to classmates everyone seems to be invested in my success. Training at Legion has improved both my physical fitness and my mental preparedness. Classes are tough, but when they are over I feel that I have pushed myself and have a great sense of accomplishment. If I can start training BJJ at nearly 50 years old then anybody can and Legion is a great place to begin that journey!
I just started coming here about a month ago and I absolutely love it! The facility is super clean, the staff and fellow students are all incredibly nice. I feel like I get better and learn more every time I come in to train. This BJJ school sets an example of what martial arts should be.
Legion Jiu-Jitsu in Murfreesboro is a safe and friendly environment for my son. He’s 5 years old and has a great time with all the other kids in and around his age. My son has been attending classes here for 8 months now. I have been very impressed with both Coach Jared and Professor Gabriel. They are the perfect balance of business and fun. It has been great exercise as well as self defense and confidence building for my son. I would definitely recommend any of the kids classes for your children young and older.
The anxiety that I felt when first walking through these doors was almost overwhelming. I knew no one and was about to take a huge step outside my comfort zone. I managed to bring myself to walk through the doors and am so glad that I made that decision. Everyone inside that building immediately made me feel like I belonged, making me feel like part of a big family from day one. The amount of time and effort put into each Legion facility is above and beyond any competitor. The professors deeply care about each individuals growth as a Jiu Jitsu practitioner and the amount of hours that they make themselves available each week has no comparison to anyone else. Where else can you wake up and train at 6:00am multiple times a week?
Started going to get in better shape and learn something new, but came away with so great friendships and a awesome family! Really enjoy going and can’t wait to see the future!
Legion Jiu Jitsu is Murfreesboro is a great place for anyone looking to train Jiu Jitsu at any level. Professor Gabriel really brings his knowledge and experience and makes everyone feel welcome. Programs are family friendly and I and my kids look forward to classes. At age 35, my only regret is that I did not start training sooner.
Staff is very friendly, other students are friendly, helpful and inviting. Facilities are very clean. Emails if there are going to be closures (very rare) for an emergency repair or holiday. I moved here from out of state and trained at a few gyms there that I absolutely loved. The staff at Legion made my transition easy because of the great atmosphere. Felt like home right away.
Great facility with good coaching. They take the time to make the youth classes both fun and educational. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
I have two boys in very different age groups and they are getting the best training out there. Every age group has tailored classes to keep them engaged while pushing them at the same time. I couldn’t be happier. After starting tournaments with the gym I see our kids are getting far superior lessons then most. If you are serious about doing BJJ and want a family atmosphere then you cannot beat legion.

Our son Joshua has been attending Legion Jiu Jitsu/Checkmat since their first night opening on March 1, 2018 at the Murfreesboro, TN location. Professor Gabriel has such grace and dignity with which he carries himself permeates the attitude throughout the entire school. He is there personally teaching and instructing classes all of the time. He is one of the finest patient coaches you can find anywhere. He is always willing to explain both the physical/technical as well as spiritual breakdown of the art of Jiu Jitsu. We plan to have our son continue his education in the art of Jiu Jitsu with Legion Jiu Jitsu/Checkmat Murfreesboro and Professor Gabriel.
I’m new to Jiujitsu, and loving it so far. Professor Gabriel and his staff are very attentive and helpful. The whole staff make learning this difficult but rewarding sport less intimidating. They all really care and want progression. I’m so happy I found this facility.

Professors Gabriel and Alex are top notch guys who have pushed me to work harder than I thought I could. I’ve lost 70lbs in about 5 months of attending. As long as you show up and put in the work, all aspects of your life and health will drastically improve.

This was my first BJJ gym. It's a clean and safe facility to train in. I loved training here and Professor Gabriel makes the instructions easy to learn taken step by step.
So as of this week, I've been attending classes with at Legion for two months. I really wanted to give it time to give my honest opinion. I love it here. Professor Gabe is incredibly professional, but also deeply human, taking a real interest in who we develop into as people. He goes out of his way to develop a warm, uplifting environment that feels like family. He constantly emphasizes that jiu jitsu should be a place of care, a place of fun, and a place of learning. I feel like I've grown so much in the short amount of time I've been with Legion. I feel more confident in my body. I feel less anxiety about being alone. I have a love for jiu jitsu that makes it at the forefront of my mind on a daily basis. The community here is amazing. The professor is amazing. This is a nurturing environment that meets you at your level and pushes you to further than you thought you ever could.

This place is not like other Jiu Jitsu schools. You not only learn self defense through the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but you gain a family of friends all looking to better themselves. The atmosphere is one of acceptance and to really embrace the Bjj lifestyle. The training is hard and effective but you never have to worry about getting hurt because everyone wants you to learn and get better for the next class. Professor Gabriel is great with everyone from kids, and beginners to seasoned competitors and veteran Bjj practitioners. You are missing out if you don’t train here.

Our kids (14 and 9) have been working with Professors Gabriel for close to two years now. I can not say enough great things about this little family and the atmosphere he has created. My kids NEVER fight me to go to class and get very sad on days we can't make it. He has given them something amazing and I will be forever grateful

I began training here about two months ago and have learned so much. The gym is always clean and the training is very hands on. Excellent crowd to learn and roll with. Professor Gabriel knows everyone is not at the same level and does a great job teaching all levels.
I've been with this team since the start. I love the classes and how people only build you up and not tear you down. Its more family than just teammates. Very thankful that I made the decision to try something new with Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and what I found at Legion with professor Gabriel, I would not trade for anything. Awesome place to train. Great family environment. Get to work directly with a Brazilian black belt in jiu jitsu. Great for all ages from 3 years old and up!! Not bad, they had a nice facility. I had my son there a couple weeks but didn't even finish a full month there before we switched gyms to gracie barra. I was very impressed with the coach Gabriel though he was a good example for the kids amd always came by to shake all the adults hands after each class which I respected. Overall though, there were too many kids in the class and after they showed the kids a move, my kid would still need help getting the move right, but too often I'd see an instructor walk right by my son doing the move incorrectly and not stop to correct him or help him get it right, which is ultimately why anyone signs up in the first place. On top of that, legion was far more expensive than the other local gyms. We landed at gracie barra afterward and we immediately could see the difference in focus and attention making sure each kid understood the move before moving on amd they do a great job of assuring the kids are engaged during class. When I tried to cancel classes at legion I called several times and left messages but no one answered or returned my calls. It took several attempts to get ahold of them to cancel our classes.
