Michael is an exceptionally warm, welcoming and knowledgeable coach. From the first time stepping onto the mat, it’s clear how much of a positive culture Jiu Jitsu Gateshead has. Everyone is mindful of each other’s ability and rolls with respect. There’s plenty of open discussion about techniques or perspectives to help you learn. Michael and all the other members genuinely want each other to progress to the best they and the club can be. Can’t recommend Jiu Jitsu Gateshead enough!

Great gym and a great team. Michael is a brilliant coach, you will be hard pushed to find a someone in the area with better knowledge of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He comes from a highly respected lineage and is a real student of the game and life long martial artist. He has created a great tight knit gym with team atmosphere, no egos, with everyone willing to help each get to their respective goals. He has a good attitude to that and it rubs off on his students. 5*

I really enjoy training at Jiu jitsu Gateshead. I find the instructors to be knowledgeable and eager to help their students improve. Michael is very keen to tune into the individual needs of each practitioner, Nick is an outstanding communicator, and Simon is absolutely no-nonsense. They make a great team. The school is small, clean, comfortable, and friendly. As a woman, I have felt both safe and challenged. I have not met a hothead or jerk in the bunch. I am even blessed to share the mat with a relatively new practitioner aged 82 who is celebrated and supported. It's a great community environment in which to gain knowledge of this sport and absolutely sweat through your eyeballs.

As a wider gent with a heavy rugby union and martial arts background, I’ve often found myself being one of the strongest athletes in the room. Training with Professor Michael has been an incredibly humbling experience so far, harshly reminding me that speed and strength aren’t everything. BJJ is the thinking man’s game. We learn how to play mind games with our opposition.

Stellar place to train, friendly atmosphere, fellow students are really helpful and welcoming. Came with my wife and she really enjoyed it too. Professor Michael and his coaching team are very knowledgeable and friendly, best place I’ve trained by far.
