Fantastic place to train, everyone is really friendly and helpful and the coaches are professional and keep the classes both educational and entertaining. Cannot recommend enough!
My son and i both joined the academy 8 months ago and thoroughy enjoy training here. The atmosphere is great, friendly and professional, and all of the coaches are really personable, professional and knowledgable, and Tyrone aside from being brilliliant for us adults to learn from is brilliant with the kids too and has a great way with them, what more could a student and/or parent of a student want.
Can’t recommend highly enough. A really well run club that is super friendly, professional, well-structured and family friendly. The kids love it and it has helped massively with their confidence. Give it a try, but be warned, it’s addictive!
My son has learned a great deal since joining this Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu club. Coach Tyrone is amazing with children, very patient, supportive, and knows exactly how to deal with them. He made my son love the sport and has always been his biggest supporter. Highly recommended! 🥋❤️
Great place to train. I dropped in on the 6am class while traveling for work, and the guys couldn’t have been any friendlier or more accommodating. The gym was very clean and I had great rolls. 10/10 will go back next time I’m around Newcastle. The place is a bit hard to find the first time as it’s in a nondescript office building without any exterior signage. I had to wander around outside until I spotted some cauliflower ear walking through the car park.
I spent 2 days training at 222 Jiu-Jitsu and had a great experience. I was made to feel welcome straight away, and Tyrone delivered technical, detailed instruction that really stood out. The level on the mats was brilliant—you can clearly see why this team performs so well in competitions. Clean, spacious gym with top-tier hygiene and high-quality mats. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

My 2 sons doing 222 jiu-jitsu over 3 years now. They really love it, having couple gold medals from competitions. Tyrone is very friendly and supportive coach. Wouldn't change for anything else. Would really recommend 222 jiu-jitsu
I started training Jiu Jitsu in January with no prior experience. I signed up to the beginners course and was quite nervous to start because I had no experience and didn’t know anyone at the class. Instantly, Tyrone and the other people there welcomed me in and made it feel completely normal. Going to class is not just a fitness benefit, but the social aspect is amazing. I’ve met people from all walks of life who all respect each other regardless of belt (or ability for that matter). Anyone thinking about taking up a martial art, do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and do it at 222

From a parents POV Absolutely thrilled with the experience my children are having at 222. Coach Tyrone is incredibly supportive, creating a nurturing environment when both children feel challenged and cared for. It is amazing to see their confidence and skills grow each week. I couldn't ask for a better place for them to learn and develop. Highly recommended. From my POV Training at 222 has been a game changer for me. The coaches are not only skilled but also patient and supportive creating a welcoming and encouraging environment. Every class feels like a step forward in personal growth and development. It's a place where you truly feel part of a community. I'm so grateful to have found this gym.
I’ve been going to this BJJ school several times a week for almost a year now (just got my second stripe) and I absolutely love it. It’s run by Tyrone and Mellisa, a husband and wife team, and I think this helps give the school a very good ‘vibe’. Unlike other BJJ schools I’ve visited, this has an exceptionally good family friendly environment. They teach together and their instruction is truly excellent. As someone with autism, communication is often difficult for me, and clear communication is very important in martial arts. Here I’ve never once felt unable to ask a stupid question. At other BJJ schools I’ve been mocked for also taking Taekwon-Do or being too skinny, here there’s nothing negative like that at all - everyone at 222 Jiu Jitsu is super friendly. Beyond the welcoming atmosphere, the place itself is always kept very clean and safe. It’s been almost a year and I’ve not witnessed a single injury worth mentioning, and from what I hear it’s always that way. In my experience not all BJJ places can boast this level of cleanliness and safety. If you want to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu then I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Give it a try, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
I have been training here since they first became established. The transitioning for me going from MMA to Bjj was hard, but with the time and efforts put in by coaches Tyrone and Mellisa are amazing. Their commitment by both coaches to their students and themselves are overwhelming. They compete in many competitions around the world and lead by example to help and push everyone to their own goals/achievements. My 8yr old is in the kids camp and loves every minute of the class. Through his progression, you can really see the hard work and dedication that is applied by Tyrone and Mellisa. My wife has also joined their Women's only class and she is also enjoying the skills learned, so she can use in any situation when called upon. Get yourself along to a family feel vibe that this club has to offer. With many activities and out of school clubs for the kids to enjoy. Come along and welcome to the family.
