Chris Ledman

Chris (aka: Chris “Gracie”) is a black belt who has been training Jiu-Jitsu since 2008. Chris began his Jiu-Jitsu career at Gracie Kailua while also training with Jason Vigil in their backyard. Chris enjoys coaching at competitions and assisting those new to the sport.

Chris Stokstad has been training since 2008 and received his brown belt under Jason Vigil in March 2017. He believes jiu jitsu is a practice of peace and empowerment, and looks forward to seeing it grow throughout Hawai’i.

Nick Alcoran

Nick started training in 2014 and fell in love with Jiu-Jitsu the very first day. He finds it satisfying to teach someone how to defend themselves, and to give them the confidence to avoid adverse situations altogether.

Ocean Hay

Ocean remembers the exact day she started training Jiu-Jitsu – February 10, 2015. Now a brown belt, Ocean helps to manage the dojo and coach the keikis.

Royal “Kawena” Mitchell

Kawena started training Jiu-Jitsu in 2008 at Gracie Kailua Jiu-Jitsu under Jason Izaguirre. He has been coaching No Gi classes at Island Jiu-Jitsu since 2015. Kawena is also a personal trainer and coaches boxing and Muay Thai.

Tammy Chang

After two children, two careers, and 9+ years of training Jiu-Jitsu, Tammy received her purple belt in 2017. Tammy started the Women’s Self-Defense workshops at IJJ to empower females mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Got to train here a few times while on island visiting family. By far the most no-gi sessions I could find for those who prefer that. All the coaches were great and a really relaxed vibe to the gym. No politics at all. Overall super thankful for getting to train there I loved it!

ワイキキから少しだけ離れているブラジリアン柔術のジムでが、The Busのバス停から近いのでアクセスは良好です。ホームページを見るとわかりますが、クラスは1時間一コマとなっていて、クラス単位で出稽古（ドロップイン）の参加が可能です。私が参加したのは平日19時のクラスで、参加者は30人ほど。1時間でアップとテクニックとその打込みをやりましたが、その後に希望者でのスパーリングが30分ほどあり、ハワイでの柔術を楽しむ事ができました。その前の18時のクラスも見学していたのですが、初心者中心でライトスパーが最後に少しある形だったので、色帯の方は最終時間のクラスに参加した方が良いかもしれません。参加を希望される方は予めサイトでサインアップと申し込みを済ませておくとスムーズです。

I visit Hawaii often and never thought to train while I was on the island. This week was different as I have a competition coming up so I was looking to train. The 6am no-gi schedule was great for getting in some work while the family was sleeping at the hotel. The guys were awesome, friendly, welcoming, and made it feel like I was at my home gym as soon as I walked in. Learned some new technique that will definitely enhance my game. Had all around great training partners and competitive rolls all around. Absolutely if you want to train no-gi in Oahu this is the place to go.

Awesome gym. I decided to pop in to the morning classes. Learned a new technique, did some positional sparring, and got some live goes in. Great workout. Awesome one on one instruction as well. Very inviting atmosphere

Love this place so much! My son just started coming a little over a month ago, and we have seen so much improvement in such a short time! With that said, my son is 8 years old with sensory processing disorder and is blind in his left eye. I never would have thought he was capable of doing a sport, but his progress has been incredible! Coaches are all so patient and encouraging! He loves attending classes and is excited to continue learning.

My son and I started at IJJ about a month ago. There’s always an abundance of senpai (great Coaches) at the kids classes and they keep the learning fun and engaging. Im 42 and as out of shape as I’ve ever been... AKA: I can’t walk 2 days after coming to a class (but lucky for me there are classes every 2-3 days depending on what you want to work on.) and it gets a little easier every week. (Or so I hear, lol) That said it’s probably the most fun you can legally have with your clothes on and I look forward to every class. 😎
