Started training about a year and a half ago. Sensei James is by far the best person I’ve ever met. He’s not only a phenomenal teacher, but a phenomenal person and friend. Training has really improved my life for the better, and plan to continue for as long as I’m able to.

I stopped in for a class at Impact with Professor James and what a great session. The move of the day was useful, and James did a great job chaining it into other techniques. The mats were clean and the team were a great group of people there to train, get better, and not out to hurt their training partners. Couldn’t recommend IMMA more whether you’re a beginner or advanced. Great culture, great team, and great place. Thank you for having me in!

James is the man! True definition of a martial artist. Only wants the best for his students and pours his vast knowledge out with compassion and sincerity. The real deal. Everyone here is great. Challenge yourself and become a better person through martial arts.

We love I.M.M.A! James is the best instructor I could ask for for my son. He is incredibly knowledgeable, extremely patient, kind, motivating, disciplined and most importantly has created the most respectful and welcoming culture for his people. It truly feels like walking in the door to your family’s home - everyone knows your name, loves on you and pushes you to be better at everything in life, on and off the mat. We couldn’t imagine being anywhere else!

I had been interested in jiujitsu for about a year previous to my visit to IMMA but hadn’t the willing commitment or due diligence to go to a jiujitsu gym until I was invited here by a friend while on a trip in Detroit. What I experienced as a complete beginner was nothing but the best I could have hoped for. The environment of calm learning while practicing a very tiring sport made for just about the most fun I had on my trip, and I’ll be sure to stop by if I’m ever in the area again.

Dropped in for a class and the instructor was friendly and informative. I felt welcomed by the regular members. I will definitely attend there again.

I've been taking my son Austin here since it opened. He's really done well with his training under Sensei James. Every week I would come in and watch but I never participated. Today was my first day of training and I have to say Jiu Jitsu is freaking awesome! What a rush and what a workout! All of the students are very helpful and patient with you when you're starting out. James has a really good dojo for all ages to train and learn. It was a great bonding experience for my son and I and I will definitely be going back. If you're hesitant like was take it from me, get out of your comfort zone and come check this place out, you won't regret it.

James is the definition of a martial artist. Humble, kind, peaceful and forever seeking knowledge. James has studied multiple disciplines including Isshinryu Karate, weaponry, joint locks/manipulation and BJJ. You’ll be learning from one of the best martial artists and humans around. The culture is welcoming and you won’t find big egos or be intimidated by the environment. Impact is a great place for both beginner and experienced martial artists looking to tap into James’ vast experience. I wouldn’t train anywhere else and my 11 yr old recently told me he’s enjoying classes more than basketball and football.

I signed my 2 kids up a couple weeks ago and they love it. They look forward to going. A great place for them. James is great he is patient and you can tell he is good with kids and thoroughly enjoys what he does. Highly recommend this place

Unfortunate experience. The instructor moved the location from Canton to Livonia without informing us and charged us for the complete month. It is an automatic charged which is put on the credit card. I consider this unethical and wrong. There should be complete transparency and parents should be informed about any major changes to the service, including moving to a new location, at least a week in advance so they can decide whether to continue or discontinue the service.
