My daughter and I are a couple of weeks into the Women’s Empowerment Course and we both love it! Our instructor Mirah is absolutely amazing. She explains and demonstrates the moves and makes classes fun. I highly recommend this location for anyone that has been considering taking a self defense class.

I have recently been taking the Women Empowerment classes at Hampton Roads Karate/Gracie Jiu-jitsu and it has been wonderful! The environment is clean and inviting. I feel safe there. I know that when I walk through those doors I’ll have an awesome time learning safety skills and making friends. My instructor Mariah is freakin’ AMAZING!!! She is a fantastic teacher and makes sure students get the material/moves whilst having a blast. Overall, this is an incredible place to learn and develop community!!!

I have been teaching for almost 20 years, and have been working with kids most of my life and it is very hard to WOW me, and Hampton Roads Karate and Jiujutsu has managed to do just that. I am beyond impressed with the way this program operates, and I am just blown away by the atmosphere that they have created for kids of all ages (including adults). Before trying this program out, we had gone to a number of other places and we’re not impressed. Not only did they exceed our expectations, they also did not break the bank.

Follow up to below.....fast forward from older review and my other two children and I are training in both Karate and Jiu Jitsu. It’s great to be able to participate with them and help them grow. Their self confidence has grown tremendously and I cannot say enough the peace of mind that gives me. Especially when I know from experience what they can do. Cannot say enough good things about this studio. My son has gone here since we moved to the area 3 years ago. The instructors helped him connect with fellow students at his new school and continued his training at the highest level. They care for the whole student and are great at their job!!!!

We signed our son up for the introduction and said let’s give it a try. Our son has Autism and it has been a struggle to find a place that would be willing to work with him. HRK assured us our son would love it! They even offered to help him on a one-on-one basis if needed. We have it a try and our kiddo loves karate! Mr. Keith went above and beyond to help our son practice to pass the belt test and he did. He has his orange belt and is ready to test again. The staff is patient and helpful. Fantastic place to learn jiu jitsu. I'm 18 and have just started and taken a few weeks of classes and have already learned some practical skills I can use to defend myself. Troy is an excellent instructor. He makes class enjoyable and the moves easy to digest and has helped me greatly thus far! Everyone in class has a great attitude and tries to help each other however we can. Their student discount makes it much easier for me to afford classes on a college budget. 10/10 have already recommended this place to friends and will continue to do so!

The entire staff is very amicable and accommodating. The instructors are knowledgeable and attentive to details. The Jiu-Jitsu program is carefully designed to learn and absorb a well planned out curriculum. I always look forward to training days. Best martial arts place in the Hampton Road area ! My children attend both karate and jujitsu classes, the instructors are amazing. There are children and adult classes as well. Best part is that there are no costly contracts that tie you down for 6 months or a year as other similar places in the area. You can cancel after one month if your kid decides this isn't what it was expected ( but you won't because it is that awesome).

Hampton Road Karate is awesome! My wife and I joined about 3 years ago to learn Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. The instructors are great. The environment is supportive and you don’t have to worry about getting injured. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu focuses on self defense right from the the start. I truly wish I had started earlier with HRK as it changed our lives. I feel better and have lost a lot of weight since starting. We are currently working on our first stripe of our blue belts. Come in and check out the school. You won’t be disappointed.
