Ground Game Theory (est. 2022) is a no-gi jiu jitsu academy in Miami specializing in submission grappling for adults and kids. Conveniently located in Westchester, Ground Game Theory is just minutes from FIU. Our programs include beginner, all-levels, and advanced no-gi jiu jitsu training, along with two weekly MMA classes open to all experience levels. New students train free for 7 days — no experience required.
I’ve been training at GGT for a few months now, and it’s been an incredible experience. The coaches are knowledgeable, supportive, and truly care about each student’s progress. This gym has worked well for me as someone a little older because of the wide time range and number of classes. I have become that guy, for better or for worse, who looks for 6 AM classes. Instruction and class structure are ecological, which was something new for me. I've personally found the eco approach to be refreshing and beneficial to my development. The culture is not overly formal, definitely a relaxed vibe, but with plenty of skilled people on the mat to challenge and improve your game. The coaches are open-minded and keep their fingers on the pulse of the current jiujitsu meta, so expect plenty of wrestling, leg entanglements, etc.
Started going here a few weeks ago and i've really been loving the gym so far. The coaches are all very respectful and knowledgeable in jiujitsu and the ecological approach to training is tough but way more beneficial than drilling in my opinion. Also there aren't any contracts that lock you in for 6 months or cancellation fees you just pay monthly and go. I'd recommend anyone interested in jiujitsu to try this place out.
I've attended several open mats at GGT and always had an amazing time. Coach Carlmichael is incredibly knowledgeable. The atmosphere and training partners are great. I will definitely be coming back. I can't recommend it enough!

My experience in ground game theory has been phenomenal. Being new to jiu jitsu, going to that first class can be intimidating. However, all the coaches and members at ground game theory are excellent and will always help you level up your game. The level of skill and willingness to teach is very high. They offer classes throughout the day and there is no limit on the amount of classes you can attend. I could not recommend this place enough.
Some of the greatest ,not just athletes, but people, teachers, and learners. In just six months I’ve been able to soak up so much knowledge from people I respect highly. Every time I train I feel everyone giving their maximum efforts, putting in the necessary time and work. GGT Jiu jitsu is one of the best gyms I’ve been to! Staff, students, classes, programs, and culture are all second to none. I personally enjoy the morning classes so I can get rolls in before work! If you haven’t given them a try, then you are missing out.
GGT combines high level submission grappling with an extremely high percentage technique focused learning environment. this gym removes all of the fluff and useless techniques often championed by other gyms in exchange for competition and fight tested techniques. My Go-to spot when I’m back home in Miami. You can trust the atmosphere there, get some great scraps in but most importantly get great instruction from coaches who keep their ear to the ground and are aware of how to train for what’s effective now. These guys know whatsup!

I come to Miami often for work and always drop in at this gym. The instructors here are incredibly detailed and technical, showcasing their dedication to studying the art. For standard-issued blue/purple belts n above... Ground game theory will, no doubt, enhance ur game. Attention to detail… sound methods, structured classes… there’s a vision here. Simple, in my solid year here as a plain-jane blue belt… come and learn a higher standard. Fine tune ur bjj. Try a class - they're all good. Do a noon session w carlmichael leiva or an evening class w keanoush amirizadeh or kade tsitos. There’s a bunch of day-one white belts, that have stayed and are now very tuff to deal with. The school is solid. Safety of paramount importance, clean mats, familial atmosphere, incredible schedule. Striking/mma/kids/teens classes throughout the week. Check out their website - class calendar updated regularly. A bunch of members come here n cross-train while training at their traditional gi or striking schools. I’ve been here for just around the one year mark, done over 350 sessions… i have never been to a class that has not been methodically planned out and/or executed by the instructor. These people take their lessons seriously. This place has been a godsend for me. I convinced my thirteen year old son to join as well. He is not an avid grappler, yet, and may never be one, honestly, but what he is learning here will definitely make him a better equipped person for it. If u r contemplating taking up jiu jitsu, or r a seasoned grappler.. do urself a favor and check this school out. There’s a lot of skilled students that have come in, tried classes, and have stayed permanently, altogether leaving their previous schools. There’s no set limit to the amount of weekly or daily sessions u partake in, no contracts, no mandatory uniforms, no registration fees, no “free uniforms”, none of that silly junk. Ggt is quite possibly the best grappling school in south florida today
I have been lucky to train in a few great schools. The coaches and students are golden. Hands down the best no-gi school I have trained in. Period. *8 month update* This school is absolutely great. My level has massively improved and Arno is getting smashed EVERY morning.

I’ve had the privilege of training at GGT for about 6 months now, and I must say that it is a great experience to train there. It is a very welcoming school with no politics, just jiu jitsu. The instructors CarlMichael, Keanoush, and Kade are truly world-class. Their knowledge of jiu jitsu is extensive, and their passion for the art is infectious. I’ve never left a review on anything before but had to for ground game theory, they are incredible. After going around and trying so many different jiu jitsu schools in Miami for a year long period , I came across GGT and never looked back. The environment they foster was just perfect for me, I thought factors like location and distance were going to play a role in the school I chose but GGT ended up being the furthest one from me that I tried and it has just been that worth it for me to go back and train there every week. Cant recommend this place enough.

I joined GGT in October and couldn’t be happier I joined this gym. This place is like a second home to me. The growth I have experienced in the past 4 months has been incredible. Everyone is welcomed and if you want to start jujitsu, I highly recommend joining this gym 10/10!
Easily one of the most knowledgeable gyms I’ve trained in. The instruction is top notch while maintaining a light and fun atmosphere. Most importantly there isn’t a over reliance on “tradition” as an excuse to remain mediocre. If you want to grow and learn what works from great instructors while being surrounded by great people this is the place to be.

Joined Ground Game Theory (GGT) the day after my 37 birthday as part of a pseudo midlife crisis, post 6 months of pure studying and inactivity due to a work opportunity. The purpose of stating the aforementioned is to dispel the idea that you must be in shape to pursue the sport of Jiu Jitsu.The instructors/coaches of Ground Game Theory are uniquely gifted in taking varying ages and physical abilities to understand techniques or concepts adapted to each individual. Each persons purpose for being there, be it exercise, competition, etc, will be respected and encouraged. This important detail keeps a camaraderie amongst all the students. There is also a time and place advantage of the location, as it is inside of Team Soul. The strength and conditioning professionals, some of whom are Jiu Jitsu practitioners, will elevate your game. In summary, I feel fortunate to be part of this gym. What started as an activity, has become fixture of my life. I wish everyone could experience the physical and mental health benefits found here.
GGT is an awesome place to train. I recently dropped in and within 5 minutes of class starting I quickly realized just from the warmup selection that the instructors are very knowledgeable. Everything is done with a purpose and the purpose is expressed to the students. As someone who’s dropped in on a fair amount of gyms I can say that the average school doesn’t not give lip service to the why behind what they do. The class itself had a good mixture of purposeful drilling and situational sparring/games, and all with explicitly expressed aims as to what skill we were working on. Culture-wise everyone was incredibly welcoming, helpful and willing to drill/roll with appropriate resistance. This is where I would be training if I lived in the area. Cannot recommend enough

I thought about starting BJJ for months. I had zero grappling experience, was extremely out of shape, and the thought of having no idea what I was doing going to a gym where I didn’t know anyone was daunting. I found GGT searching online and decided to try a trial class because of good reviews. Immediately the coaches make you feel so welcome. I don’t like how uptight some coaches are but at ground game the coaches and members make you feel like family not like they’re better than you. They act like people who just really love the sport of BJJ, you can tell the obsession they have to keep learning and making classes better. This is now literally my favorite place to be. If you’re new, worried, out of shape, whatever, and thinking about starting BJJ take a free trial class you will not regret it I sure didn’t. The coaches are high level guys with a lot of knowledge and drive to keep learning. Amazing school, amazing coaches, amazing classes, amazing members.
Unmatched curriculum for modern submission grappling
The team of instructors at Ground Game Theory are unyieldingly serious about BJJ and about developing their students into formidable grapplers. Every class is a component of a curated curriculum designed to turn “moves” into “habits,” helping the student embody each lesson rather rote repetition of whatever random move the professor was thinking of that day. They are diligent. You will be engaged from the moment class starts until the last buzzer. They are patient, a trait which overflows to each student and creates a refreshing atmosphere without pretense where any student can learn. I attend the 6:30am class almost exclusively and each of my training partners is a pleasure to train with. As a result of this gym’s devotion to BJJ as an art and a craft, you will learn, you will sweat, you will laugh, and you will come back.

Amazing gym. The coaching staff is super passionate and they utilize the most up to date techniques and systems being used by the top players in the world. You will learn a ton and quickly. The school is new but they will soon be one of the top gyms in South Florida within a few years.

What I really liked when attending their class was the attention to detail of their teachings and principles. They will question your instinct and make you critically think of the next approach and ask why. As a beginner, I felt I learned a ton in just the one and a half hour I was there. That is truly the best way to learn this sport. I admire the passion and dedication Keanoush and Carmichael have for Jiu Jitsu and their dedication, not only for the growth of their students, but the sport in general. As a woman looking to expand my fitness training while learning self defense fundamentals, jiu jitsu has been a game changer. The coaches are both highly skilled and patient. At first, I thought training jiu jitsu would be out of my reach but Keanoush and Carlmichael break down every fundamental for all levels to understand. Once I heard they were also hosting classes for kids I immediately signed my little cousins up! I have been amazed at how they can adjust their trainings in order to keep the kids engaged and excited.
