Grand Union Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Eastbourne is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in Eastbourne, East Sussex, formed by BJJ black belt, MMA fighter and sports commentator Dean Middhat under Roger Gracie black belt and Grand Union founder Cesar Lima. The academy teaches Gi BJJ, No-Gi BJJ and MMA, with classes for ages 14 and above and private training available.
Dean Middhat is a Black Belt with 20 years experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA and is also undefeated in Boxing. He has a Sports and Exercise Science teaching Degree, has taught Physical Education and Science in secondary schools, and received his Black Belt under Roger Gracie black belt Cesar Lima at Grand Union.

So far i haven't been at this club for too long but im already settled in here and everyone is very nice. The teacher is very experienced and kind as well. Not only do I feel I am learning but also that I'm having fun too.
Our son started BJJ and MMA with Grand Union about 4 months ago in addition to the Karate and Kickboxing he has done for several years. He is one of the youngest of the group but he was instantly made to feel like part of the team. Dean is a very experienced, thorough and skilled trainer. To many, it may seem a very aggressive sport for a teenager to get involved in, however with the right sort of training, it also promotes many of the life skills, some youngsters are lacking. We are very impressed with Grand Union and look forward to watching our son progress.
Such a great environment to learn jiu jitsu. Coach Dean is thorough and attentive during class, he gives clear, step by step explanations always asking if anybody has questions or if anything needs to be demonstrated again. Perfect for beginners or if you already train. Everybody who trains there is helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend coming along and trying it out.
Started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Grand Union Eastbourne over two and a half years ago and I still go there 3 times a week with the same enthusiasm. That is because of the amazing team: prof Dean, the coaches, the practitioners… A great community! BJJ affected my life in the most amazing ways.
I started my bjj journey with Dean way back in 2019. Everyone there has been super friendly and supportive. There’s no egos on the mats which is great. Deans teaching style is fantastic, really breaks down the moves to help you understand. The easy going and laid back atmosphere makes each class a joy to attend. If you’re looking for a sign to start BJJ, this is it!
Guys down there are all absolutely wonderful. Very welcoming environment. Dean the instructor is a legend, really lovely and looks out for his students. The experienced regulars are all great teachers themselves. Lovely place to get a work out, whether you're just visiting or looking for somewhere to train often.
