I started training at GF BJJ almost 1.5 years ago when I started school at UND, and it has been a great decision. The gym is an incredibly welcoming family environment, and extremely technically sound for both self defense and competition BJJ. I wrestled in high school, and the instructors at GF BJJ taught me how to use my wrestling with BJJ to best compliment my game. I would highly recommend the gym to anyone, whether you are interested in competing, self-defense, or just to get a good workout in!

I’ve had a great experience training at this jujutsu gym. The instructors are knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely care about helping students improve, no matter their skill level. Classes are well-structured, with a good balance of technique, drilling, and open mats are always a blast! And Preston is an absolute stud super nice guy all around awesome coach!

This place rules. If you’re looking to start training BJJ or Kickboxing, there’s no better place in the area. Small classes, knowledgeable instructors and friendly culture.

Terrific instructor. I was visiting from Iowa and dropped in. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Had a great time training there. Wish I had more time to train there while I was in the area.
This is a great academy to train at! I travel a lot for work and whenever I’m in Grand Forks I always train here. Coach Preston has a fantastic teaching style backed up with years of experience. The classes are well structured and have an excellent curriculum. The facilities are super clean and well maintained. My son has trained here with me several times and he loves it too. ❤️❤️❤️
Was in town visiting my dad, stopped by and was very welcomed. The Ju jitsu was top notch, i would highly recommend this gym to anyone in the area
Great dojo, visiting from Florida was looking for a place to roll and drill, came to the day time classes everyone was very welcoming, the coach was very thorough on his explanation of technique and different variations, rolling with the students was great, lots of good strong talent, but everyone flow rolls and teaches and educates, no ego in the gym which is what I liked, I been going all week and needless to say everytime I visit I will deft be training here. If you’re in the grand forks ND area I highly reccomend them!

I highly recommend Grand Forks BJJ Academy. From the moment you walk through the doors you feel welcome and the training by the coaches is fantastic. My 6 year old son really enjoys the kids classes and always asks me when he has class again. If you or your children are interested in BJJ this is the place to go.

Excellent Jiu Jitsu school. Knowledgeable instructors that create a safe and welcoming environment for all levels of athlete.
I went to check this place out after they had been open for about two months. I was instantly welcomed like a family member. The instruction was top notch. The academy was extremely clean and they focused on the safety of the students. There are two changing/locker rooms (male/female) and a clean bathroom. They have 4 types of classes: kids, fundamentals, adult, and open mat with a curriculum in place to develop each individual student. The main instructors are a 3rd Degree Black Belt & a Brown Belt, both are extremely knowledgeable and friendly with a willingness to answer all questions. For those that care, their lineage is George Andersch (Owner) -> Amal Easton -> Renzo Gracie. It doesn't get more legit than this. I was so impressed, I signed up on the spot. If you get the chance go check them out.
I haven’t been to many gyms, but this gym stands out by far. Great culture, teammates and especially great coaches.
It's a great place to start your BJJ journey. They have knowledgeable and patient coaches that will build grit, enforce good technique, good sportsmanship, and integrity.

Was visiting Grand Forks and dropped in for open mat and class. Preston was very welcoming and runs a solid gym. Great vibes, good Jiujitsu and safe place to train. Highly recommend
New gym in town but I'd say they have a bright future for at least one reason: Preston. Wonderful coach who's had balanced offensive and defensive training background. With white belts defense makes those early months bearable and is often overlooked at gyms where they want to teach you the subs. I dropped in while visiting campus with my daughter and North Dakota makes thirty states I've rolled in. The teacher makes a huge difference in how a gym runs and the culture they'll create will be solid and supportive, so if you're in the area shopping around for a place to learn BJJ check this one out. Preston has one of the cleanest gyms I've seen, offers loaner sandals so NOBODY goes into the bathroom and back on the mats with gross feet, and men's and women's lockers are big, fresh, well-lit, and offer plenty of privacy for changing. Lots of south facing windows for plenty of natural light. Wish I coulda stayed for the advanced class after fundamentals. Highly recommend this gym, I see great things in their future...thanks for the hospitality!
This is a fantastic jiu jitsu studio! The instructors are knowledgeable and friendly, Preston especially, and they teach in a way that is structured and easy to follow! The general vibe is inviting, and it’s clear that the instructors care about their students well being as much as helping them to learn! I would recommend to anyone who practices and it looking for a great place, as well as anyone who is looking to start jiu jitsu, that you give this place a try!

I've had a fantastic experience with GFBJJ. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming staff. The curriculum is well thought out, detailed, and methodical. There's a strong culture of respect and mutual upbringing across all skill levels. Highly recommend for all ages and skill levels.
