I started my 4 year old here about two months ago. He loves it and we love it also. He is learning discipline, self-defense, but most importantly the community with this group is absolutely fantastic. The instructors are great with kids and you can tell that they care about everyone who is part of the gym.

I’ve had the privilege of training at Gracie Barra Encinitas since 2005, and it’s truly been one of the most meaningful and consistent parts of my life. Under the guidance of Professors Nelson Monteiro and Rafael Ramos—both world-class instructors and incredible human beings—I’ve grown not only in my jiu jitsu journey but also as a person. Their leadership has cultivated a culture that is as welcoming and inclusive as it is technical and disciplined. From day one, this academy felt like home. The atmosphere is warm, the community is tight-knit, and the values go far beyond the mats. It's a place where lifelong friendships are made and where everyone, regardless of rank or background, is treated with respect and care. I earned my black belt here 14 years ago, and I still look forward to every training session. That says a lot about the kind of place this is. My daughter and I both train here. She started when she was 3 and is now 5. Both kids and adult programs are amazing. The instructors are very knowledgeable and have ton of experience. I’ve been to many gyms in San Diego and Hawaii and I can easily say this by far the cleanest gym I’ve been to. The facility is air conditioned, has a water station, and coffee! It’s a really good place to get a workout, make lifelong friends and network.

Love this place! I was hesitant with trying jiu jitsu, but I was immediately made to feel so welcome here. Great community and very helpful instructors. The women’s only class has been something I look forward to every week.

11 - 02 - 2020 What a great school!! Everyone is very friendly and welcoming from the black belts to the white belts. Take it from a newbie, you want to be here. I been here a month and It's obvious this school has a great hospitality base and an emphasis on proper jiu jitsu technique. Their policies are not overbearing and they don't make you sign any contracts. The school has recently been redesigned and looks amazing inside. There is lots of room for rolling! Well done GBE! Definitely have my recommendation! 12 - 01 - 2021 update- I have received my blue belt! What an accomplishment! So stoked! Here is what I have learned: get comfortable in the uncomfortable, be flexible, it's hard to have an ego when your getting choked, respect, confidence and most importantly that the instructors, coaches and training partners treat each other like family. Pretty sure I found my home! If you are interested come by!!!!!! Try a free lesson! Update 11/4/2023- I have been promoted to Purple belt. Some things I have learned; No matter what, a good class/roll can really change a person's life. I have faced difficult situations this year, every challenge I received I met with the same calm and mythodical mindset as if were training. I'm not just training to get my black belt, but to be a better man. A gentleman that studies a gentle art. Much thanks to Master Nelson, Professor Rafa, the Professors, coaches and my training partners for their guidance, I am stoked to have these people as guides.
This is an excellent gym. I came to this gym as a visiting student from another Gracie Barra. The instructors were very helpful and enthusiastic. Not only did they ensure we were doing our movements properly during the class, but they stayed after class to help prepare me for a tournament.

The community at Gracie Barra Encinitas is second to none. They have an amazing kids program. All three of my kids, including two teenage girls, have trained here and have developed their self confidence as a result. I love training here and get a great workout each session.

My 6 year old trains here. Superb teachers that instruct with passion. They are strict but kind and the ratio of kids to professors is also high. Its a great sport for kids and this club does a fantastic job. Highly recommended!

I had a great experience at the encinitas location, the staff are kind, respectful and patient, as well as the students, there is a healthy competition but more so a common desire to learn and look after each other. Further more I had experienced some issues with my membership but after a few calls the team was hasty to fix the issue and give me some good news. Over all the people here are great!
Such a good and welcoming environment at this school, I would have gone every day while in town if I could have. It would be a real treat, at any age and skill level, to be able to train here regularly.
Professor Matt and the other instructors are fantastic! I can only speak for the kids classes, but they keep the kids focused, learning and having fun the whole time. My boy loves it. Highly recommended.

My 10 year old son trains at this facility. We started in August and I couldn’t be happier with Gracie Barra, Encinitas. The place is clean and well run. The instructors are fantastic and focus on every student and their progress with 4-5 instructors on the mat every class. Administratively the place is totally well run too. Really can’t say enough good things about it.

This is a fantastic school. Our family trains here and could not be happier. From the professors to the students it feels like a family. I came to Gracie Barra Encinitas on a whim about 4 years ago when I was looking for a way to stay in shape and learn some self defense skills. From a lifestyle perspective, it is hands down one of the best decisions Ive ever made! Great group of instructors and great group of guys (and girls) to train with. To put it into perspective, my family and I are looking for a new house and my main criteria is to be within a 15 minute drive of GBE!

I Recently took a trip down to the California Coast and I had the opportunity to stop and check Gracie Barra Encinitas, the access to the club is extremely easy,less than a mile of the Highway 5. I am a Jiu Jitsu practitioner for several years and I couldn't help myself to get amused by this place, starting from the instructors who are top notch and well recognized in the martial arts international community but also by the organization of this school. The mats are very spacious and the gym is spot less clean, there is a seating area for the parents and the atmosphere is super friendly, they have a very well known Kids Program with several kids learning a non violent effectively form of self defense right down from the core of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. However Gracie Barra Encinitas isn't a place for kids only although their Children's program is very popular and vibrant their adult Beginners program is also very popular among guys and girls as a matter of fact one of their instructors is a well qualified female, who's the differential on this place in terms of women instruction. Some of the best BJJ practitioners in the area train at this place among them World and National Champions and they are all super friendly and welcoming, willing to share and to propagate the growth of their group which makes Gracie Barra Encinitas the ultimate Martial Arts facility in the area. I couldn't say enough good things about Gracie Barra Encinitas and I rightly recommend this place to anyone who wants to learn in a family, friendly, safe and clean environment.
This is a great club with a warm and friendly culture. The instructors are world class. I've made some of my best friends here. I've been a member here for 8 years and every week I still I look forward to training with my friends and having fun.
