Staff are friendly and enthusiastic about their role with all the kids. My grandson is usually shy but this environment is really bringing him out of himself. Well done all !!
I’ve been training at ganbaru gym for 2 years and it’s hands down one of the best gyms I’ve trained at.The coaches are very friendly and welcoming to all, regardless of experience.if your from Waterford and you want to train jiu jitsu this is the place to go to.
Only recently joined Ganburu Gym and I’m really glad I did! I started with the women’s classes and have now started the other fundamentals classes too. I was quite nervous about starting something completely new at my age, especially having never done any sport before, but everyone has been so welcoming and supportive from day one.
All the coaches and members are lovely and really encouraging, no matter what your experience level is. I have so much fun at every class and I’m always looking forward to the next one! It’s also really handy to get to, with loads of free parking.
Would definitely recommend Ganburu to anyone who’s thinking about giving it a go especially if, like me, you’re nervous about starting something completely new!
One of the best community-led Jiu Jitsu gyms in Waterford & The South East that you could ask for. 🥋
What makes this place so special is the atmosphere - fun, relaxed, welcoming & completely ego-free. There’s no toxic environment or macho mentality; it genuinely feels like a community where men, women & children can train, learn & grow together.
The kids’ programme is brilliant, with a clear pathway from kids’ classes through to teens & eventually adult training as they grow and develop.
For anyone looking to do some competitive training, there is a very active competition team with 11 black belts. The team regularly competes at international competitions, giving serious competitors the opportunity to get in some elite level training.
There’s also an amazing team of around 20 women (one of the biggest numbers of women training on the mats in ireland) from white belt right through to brown belt training together. The women-only classes have female coaches & an environment that is particularly welcoming to women who may have religious or cultural preferences for a women only space.
The gym itself is fantastic two large floors of fully matted space, plenty of room to train, newly decorated with plants throughout the gym, fans and air conditioning to keep things comfortable on busy sessions. There’s also a lounge area where parents, friends or family can sit & watch classes.
There are separate men’s and women’s changing areas, on-site toilet, snack machine and even a small weights/gym area.
But the community side is genuinely second to none. Friday open mats are always great craic, (& very often come with snacks!) There’s also the annual GANBBQ after belt promotions, where the whole gym, along with friends and family, come together for a day of training, food & BBQ on the gym grounds. Then there’s the annual Christmas night out, which has become another highlight of the year. It’s these moments, both on and off the mats, that make the gym feel like so much more than just a place to train.
Whether you’re completely new to Jiu Jitsu, an experienced competitor, parent looking for somewhere for your child to train, or a woman who has been nervous about stepping into a martial arts gym - this is the kind of place where you’ll feel welcome.
A genuinely brilliant gym, with brilliant coaches and an even better community. Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Started going to the women's only classes back in January and loving it! Everyone in the gym is so friendly and the atmosphere is really welcoming. Would highly recommend the women's only classes to any ladies interested in starting BJJ, the classes are really fun and new members are always welcomed with open arms :)
