Popped in for a day, very reasonable pricing for out of towners! Everyone is very friendly , the gym is clean and neat. Class is structured in games and they’re super fun while also practical in use. I really enjoyed my time learning and training I would highly recommend training here with this group in the great Salem area. Anytime I’m in town I will likely try to stop by. Felt at home and a sense of camaraderie like what I’m used to at home in North Carolina.

I just started training at Forged. The coaches and students were all super welcoming. After the first lesson, I was hooked. So hooked and positive about the place that I brought my teen age son. He left with the same initial impression ,so now this is something we are both doing for individual defense and self-confidence, all while promoting some great family time! I did some karate training like 30 years ago that I wasn't happy with. In contrast, this place is the real deal. I highly recommend it.

I have 2 daughters that attend classes here, a 4 year old and an 8 year old. The whole team is so encouraging! My younger daughter asks everyday if it’s class day and eagerly looks forward to her tiny titans program which she has grown in, in just a few short weeks. I joined Forged Self Defense Academy during the pandemic because I needed an escape, and I haven't looked back. Over the past 3 years, I've not only developed as a martial artist, but as a person and a leader. The coaches are always ready and willing to work with you, and the community is one of the best I have the privilege of being a part of. The coaches know we all show up for a different reasons and learn things at a different pace. They never hesitate to take time during class to walk through your questions, and will even stay after class to work with you. If you're new to martial arts and are nervous about being a beginner, don't be. Everyone helps each other out. Upper ranks help out lower ranks, and lower ranks sometimes help out the upper ranks. We're all human and learning, and ego isn't something that's problem at this school. Take chance and come check it out. Hope to see you on the mats!

Our daughter, Emma, unfortunately was physically bullied by another child while at preschool. The situation left our four year old afraid of new social situations and very timid around other kids that she didn’t know. Her self esteem and confidence was already low because she struggled with a speech impediment and was often misunderstood but after her experience it just wasn't what it once was. So, we decided to start looking around for martial arts classes, something that could help her regain her confidence while teaching her how to defend herself and use her voice. We found exactly that when we came across Forged Self Defense Academy. Less than a year after joining and I can tell you she is a different kid today than she was when she first walked in that door! Emma has gained the confidence, the voice, the self esteem, and she gained a team of people outside of home that help build her up and make new friendships along the way. She isn't the shy, timid, soft spoken little girl that she was before, no! She is the girl that speaks up and speaks with confidence, she sets boundaries for herself and isn't afraid to let someone know when they are overstepping those boundaries. She works hard every day to be better than the day before and puts hard work into everything she does and the progress that she has made in this short time shows. We have the amazing coaches at Forged to thank for helping us get our Emma where she is today, for providing her with a safe space to learn and grow, always boosting her confidence and teaching her the skills they have. What we love the most is that the coaches have become part of our “village”. If our girl is ever going through a hard time with something, whether it's someone saying something mean, trouble listening, low self esteem, trouble at school, we know we can turn to them and they incorporate it into their lessons and help work through it. I couldn't recommend a better team to teach these little minds!

Started going here a little less than a year ago from a friend who recommended me to get back in the martial arts after 4-5year break. All the coaches and teachers are very welcoming, polite and motivating. After going there for a few weeks you start to understand there is a sense of community within the group that you train with. It becomes less of a chore to get up to go train and more something that you are excited to do. Highly recommend going here if your looking to improve your physical health, get in shape, or become a lot of comfortable using self defense should you ever need to.

Dennis and the team at Forged really have a great thing going. Classes are fun and challenging, but it’s the people/community at the gym that keep me coming to class. On day 1 I walked in knowing nothing about self defense. 6 months have passed and I can’t believe the progress I’ve made (even though I’m just barely scratching the surface). Fitness wasn’t even my priority when joining but I’m down 30 lbs! I’d recommend Forged to anyone looking to give martial arts a try but aren’t sure where to start.

Look no further for a place to start or continue your journey in martial arts. What makes Forged great is the ability for the classes and instructors to meet the desired path of each student. Whether you are looking to learn self-defense and have a good workout or are dedicated to honing your craft and competing. Forged is the place to go. What also sets Forged apart from the rest are the workshops and open mat sparring. Several workshops are offered throughout the year, where other instructors from across the country teach and help students learn or improve certain skills or techniques. Whether it’s a knife fighting and defense workshop or, more recently, a workshop focused on applying catch wrestling techniques to BJJ. These workshops are a great option offered by Forge and highly recommended. I believe Brice Lee once said, “training in martial arts without sparring is like training to swim in the desert”. This is something anyone of almost any level can have the opportunity to do at Forged during open sparring or open mat rolling. The Monday open sparring (boxing/kickboxing) can seem intimidating, but the students and instructors are great at meeting someone at their sparring level. On occasion, Dennis will put limitations on types of strikes available, for both or one opponent, to help a student further develop their striking, defense, and overall strategy in the ring. With BJJ, you will learn the most and develop your skills faster in open mat rolling. Here again, the instructors and students do well at meeting people at their level. I had trained for almost a decade in kickboxing (now part of Krav Combatives) and started BJJ almost 2 years ago. Even with years of training, learning BJJ was difficult at first. What really helped my development was open mat rolling. I was wary at first, being so new and feeling I would be wasting other’s time until I learned more. However, the instructors are always willing to roll to help you start learning the basics, and many students, regardless of belt, can help you progress through flow rolling. If you’re interested in BJJ I would recommend rolling after every class. Overall, Forged has been a great place to learn and develop as a martial artist. Signing up 9 years ago was the best thing I have done, and I look forward to the next 9. Whether you or your kids are completely new to martial arts or have trained before, this is the place to start or continue your journey.

I just stared at this gym a couple months ago with no prior martial arts experience. I have received a high level of personal attention in every class, which has been amazing as a beginner. All the instructors already know my name, and Dennis has been especially nice, offering to meet with me to make up classes I’ve missed, and even checked in on me after surgery. Everyone has been so welcoming, which has made trying something new much less daunting and been instrumental in motivating me to return to class on a weekly basis.

I started a year ago this month and it was the best thing I ever did! The coaches are amazing and I love how they combine Krav, BJJ and Boxing! The atmosphere is so inviting and inclusive. I remember being so nervous when I started because I knew nothing and had never done any form of martial arts before. But everyone I worked with was so kind and helpful that I felt so comfortable! I’ve taken classes at forged for almost 10 years, and almost every second I look back on fondly as an experience I am incredibly grateful to have received. The instructors are beyond qualified; not just in the arts but In teaching them; breaking down and presenting information. The adult classes are informative, but also clean and safe the environment shines and the people there are second to none. And the kids classes are an absolute blast, not only teaching discipline, and mature social skills but doing so in a way that looks so fun I might be jealous. This community is the greatest there is, and as anyone who’s gone for a solid amount of time would tell you, ‘family’ is the only accurate term for the people you’ll meet there

Forged has been a great place to learn martial arts. As someone who didn't start training until my mid 40s, I wanted a place that would be challenging but also understand that I'm not heading to the UFC. I get a great workout every time. The classes are a nice blend of workout and learning. The coaches are very dedicated. When I stopped attending for a while, they checked in on me and helped me get back into a routine. That sense of community plays out with the other students as well. As for the physical stuff, when I started with Forged, I was morbidly obese. Now I'm just regular obese. I'll take any progress I can get.

Forged Self Defense Academy has been a life changer for me. I went through a brutal change in my life a few months ago and this class has helped me so much to cope with such an extremely difficult time. This program has done more for my own confidence, discipline, self worth and well being than any therapist that I've seen. The culture in this program is absolutely phenomenal! It is truly a family! Everyone is very cohesive and helpful and kind. The class has a very diverse range of ages and people. Dennis is an amazing teacher and he really drives you and motivates you to improve with his style of teaching! Coach Zack, Damien and Matt are phenomenal, funny, helpful, patient and masters of their craft. If you are dealing with anxiety, looking for a technically challenging fitness routine or youre in a rut I highly recommend giving this class a shot, it's helped me more than words can describe. Instructor displayed a great knowledge on the arts of martial arts. Which is huge for me. He asked the kids why do you want to do this? That question allows the child to explore there minds to deliver a message of who they want to be. It brings a sense of self understanding and confidence. The mission statement is a solid one. They hold great structure which allows kids to have a platform to grow and build life skills as well. On the other side of coin I am a boxer in training I am familiar in the arts of fighting. The instructor are very skilled and have the credibility needed to lead by example. Footwork , correct punching forms and defense was on point. They know what they are doing and very professional. I’m so impressed by my first session and my son loved it. He left with a smile and accomplished. I see myself training here in the future with my son.

Today was my first day in the actual Krav maga class. I've searched for this discipline of martial arts for a while and until I found this school I wasn't very impressed. I've studied various marital arts throughout my life and always wanted to study Krav maga. What I found with this school was , no short of awesome. They push you hard but build you up. I’ve been here for almost five years and it is one of the best experiences of my life. I’ve learned a lot since the beginning and still have a long way to go. Coach Dennis, staff and fellow piers are very helpful and supportive at this academy. You always feel welcome here and sure do get a great workout. Hope this review helps someone that is looking for self defense, physical fitness, and reaching their goals.

This is by far the best school that I have ever trained at. The instructors are kind and down-to-Earth. Dennis has created a culture of camaraderie at this school where every student is happy to work with you and help you get better. I truly love this school and would recommend it to anyone who wants to study martial arts.

It took us many years to find a sport or activity that our teenaged daughter truly loves. She started at Dragon Within Martial Arts 6 months ago and she is hooked. The instruction is not only top notch but she also feels so supported by all the staff. She receives evaluation of her progress on a regular basis and individual attention that goes well above any place we've ever attended. I'd give more than 5 stars if I could!

I have been studying Krav Maga at Dragon Within for 5 years. This is a fantastic place to learn.. They have assembled a dedicated team of friendly, courteous, respectful and experienced instructors who have a real passion for martial arts. They promote a safe but serious workout environment and have a wide variety of classes and class times. Their personable friendly touch makes every student feel welcome, safe and free to learn. If you are looking for a place to study martial arts definitely put Dragon Within on the list.

DWMMA has been a part of our family life for the better part of the last 8 years. My son started out followed by my daughter when she was only 4 and now my wife attends krav Maga classes. In addition to teaching mixed martial arts, this team instills virtue, respect, self discipline and above all else a real sense of community in each student. Beyond the classes, which alone are worth the price of admission; they conduct community events such as parking lot self defense classes, join in local parades and host both birthday and special achievement parties even with the special event is coming in first in a school reading contest. All in all a great team, a great school and highly recommended.

Dragon Within Martial Arts is a great place to learn martial arts. It’s has classes for the kids and adults too. The classes are intense yet fun. My kids attend classes regularly and love it. The instructors really know how to motivate you to work at your best. I really think you should come try a class for you or your kid.

Dragon Within Mixed Martial Arts is a wonderful school filled with dedicated instructors and students. The classes are challenging physically which makes for a great workout. Every instructor goes above and beyond to make sure that each student is understanding everything. It is amazing to train at Dragon Within MMA.

Dragon Within is a really special martial arts school. I've been going here for 6 or 7 years and my experience has been consistently amazing. The instructors are top notch. They are all very personable. They make it a point to learn students' names and address them by name. The class sizes can be fairly large and the instructors still manage to make it feel like am individualized experience. Whether your goal is excercise, learning martial arts, learning self defense, or even just to do something social and make friends, Dragon Within is the place to accomplish that goal.

My kids have been coming here for three months now and we have seen a huge improvement! They are more focused, respectful, and disciplined. The staff and instructors are very knowledgeable and are invested in seeing each student succeed. Not only are my children learning martial arts techniques, but they learn lessons about kindness and motivation. Dragon Within really is a great investment for anyone, I highly recommend it.

The coaches and staff have always been respectful of students and their differing levels of training and skill sets and work tirelessly to keep updating curriculum and drills. If you are just getting into martial arts, at any age, or looking to get in better shape, I would highly recommend checking them out!

My daughter had a remarkable journey at Dragon Within. We gave her a membership as a birthday gift when she was 6 years old. At first she didn't know if she liked it, but she stayed with on and stayed on a path that continued for 7 years and she ended it after receiving a junior Black Belt. Dennis, Jess, Alan and the rest of the staff there instill values, discipline, and pride in the kids. They are remarkable teachers who do not take short cuts and their dedication reflects on the students that they lead. In the end, my daughter could have continued on her path but she chose to do other activities once she completed the 2 year junior Black Belt path that they laid out for her. Aside from the phenomenal classes they offer, they go above and beyond with outside activities and events. Every year they deck out the studios and make a haunted maze for Halloween, and they have a great holiday party. Summer there were kickball games, cookouts, etc. They really make it a community and a family there, I cannot recommend a better place to take your kids for a great physical activity and a great structural place to instill great values and discipline in your kids. Aside from that, they offer teen and adult classes. Over the many years I sat in the studios as my daughter took her classes, I saw a lot of people pass through the doors on their own journeys. Some people may have not gone for awhile, and they might get a gentle nudge or ribbing as to why they have not been there in awhile. All in all, great place. Very affordable and well worth the money and time.

The workers are very nice to everyone and the community of people that take the lessons everyday are very nice. When you take a class for the first time you immediately feel comfortable and motivated to come back again. If you are looking for a place to exercise and learn about real applicable self defense techniques this is the place to go to.

I’ve been involved within Dragon Within for a number of years. As an adult, the workouts are intense and the instructors are awesome. The owner, Dennis, has developed a facility that feels like home. As now the mother of a child who has moved up the ranks at DWMMA, I appreciate the structure and the guidance that the instructors have given my son. His confidence and skills have grown incredibly over the last few years! I highly recommend DWMMA!

I wandered into the Dragon Within Martial Arts family years ago, after being confronted with some health and life challenges. I was looking for something to turn things around and get me focused in a new direction. Little did I know then, the impact that decision would have on my life. Not just in the benefits to my overall health and fitness, but in so many other ways, like friendships and getting inspired by some truly great people, both staff and students. I can not say enough good things about Coach Dennis and his team of coaches, they love MMA and it comes out in the quality and care they put into the training. This is truly a very welcoming environment that I would highly recommend to anyone, including, women, children, any fitness level and anyone looking for a fun way to get and stay in shape, build confidence and learn some important self defense skills. How can you go wrong? You can only benefit!

My daughter has been taking classes at DWMMA since she was four. She's almost 11 now and is still super enthusiastic about classes. The instructors are wonderful, so good with the kids, and foster a caring and considerate environment for learning. I started taking Krav Maga two years ago and have never been so enthusiastic about training. It's so fun, and I love learning skills that were previously so foreign to me. The instructors are fantastic. Very patient with new students, I've never felt awkward or self conscious because I don't get something right away, and yet, always learning new things keeps the challenge fresh and fun. The other students are great as well, encouraging and helpful. DWMMA is an asset to it's community.

I have been training in Krav Maga at Dragon Within for almost 2 years. Before joining, I asked around, and the unanimous suggestion was to join Dragon Within; everyone agreed they were the best Krav Maga school on the North Shore. The coaches have been so patient with and encouraging of me--and I am not, by any means, a natural at this stuff. My fellow students have also become really great friends. If you are looking for a great self-defense class, a great work-out, great coaches, and great friends on the North Shore, then this is the place for you.

Dragon Within is the BEST place for kids! Our grandson has been training with Ms. Jess and Mr. Chris for 3 years...they are both so good with the kids. Our grandson has learned so much and has progressed in his martial arts skills but also in discipline and commitment. Highly recommend!!

All the instructors are really nice and adjust to your level. There really is nothing negative to say about this place. I never once felt uncomfortable or unwelcomed, but instead was surprised how quickly the instructors knew my name; it's a small detail but it goes a long way.

Exelent school! The instructors are very friendly and are experts at their art. They give a lot of personal attention to every student during group classes and are constantly working on improving their curriculum. They are genuinely interested in their student’s progress and attendance.
