Love this place. It's like a workout, a therapy session, and a meditation all in one. I walk out both exhausted and rejuvenated. I'm both more confident and calmer because of jiu-jitsu. After a two hour session, I've given everything I got, and left it all on the mat... pushing myself to that level makes the rest of life seem easier by comparison . Wish I could go every day!
Posted 1 year agoMy daughter and I stopped in for the Sunday open mat and had a great time! Great rolls, great people, clean facility and tons of hospitality! We will be back!
Posted 1 year agoA beautiful high end facility with passionate teachers that have been in the game for many years. An awesome academy for high level competitors to local families just looking for a positive outlet. I highly recommend this academy if you are interested in learning technical modern Jiu-Jitsu with solid old school Jiu-Jitsu values. Top notch!
My son David got into a physical altercation his first day of 6th grade. Not a good start to his first day at Triad Middle School. Turns out it was a great start. David was sitting in homeroom when he noticed some boys having an argument. David closed his laptop and started focusing on the argument happening in front of him (I stopped him here in his re-telling and congratulated him on exercising Situational Awareness, the single most important factor in protecting yourself and others). David described how one boy stood up and used both his hands to start choking the other boy who remained seated. David stood up, went behind the aggressor, applied a “seat belt” grip, executed a “mat return” takedown, got his “hooks” in and waited until help arrived. I asked him what the boy did to David (David is small for his age). David said the boy was bucking around pretty hard but David was able to control him without anyone taking any damage. I asked David if he was scared. He said “No, it was just like training.” I asked David what the teacher said that came to help, David said no one said anything. I thought that was strange. Nothing said to David the rest of the week until Friday when the principal called David to the office. The principal thanked David and told him how happy he was that David was able to manage that situation in the way he did. The principal said to David, “The teacher said you seemed very calm, have you done that before?” David told him that he has been training at Fathom Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Highland for a couple years. Coach Charles and Taylor remind the kids that BJJ should stay in the gym and to only use it if you must out in the world. That reminder is important because the fact is that those trained in BJJ have an unfair advantage over those who do not train when it comes to a physical altercation (and many other ways). I got my neighbor boy Drew into BJJ at Fathom. A few months after Drew started training, he had someone picking on him at the high school. The boy went to push Drew. Drew executed an “arm drag” and got to the boys back. Drew then sunk in a “rear naked choke” and used it to control the aggressor. The aggressor asked Drew to stop, and Drew did. No one hurt, and Drew walks tall at school. The fact is that if you utilize BJJ properly, no one will get hurt. The same cannot be said for striking martial arts. I could go on about the family friendly environment at Fathom, the excellent training from Charles and Taylor, the things they have done for me and my family personally when we were going through a difficult situation. I’ll just leave this review with the thought that you should at least give it a go at the free trial. If you have kids, they should absolutely train for at least a year just to make them bully proof if nothing else.
Went to open mat this past week and it was a great experience. The facility is very clean and set up well. The owner was more than willing to help me with my skills while working together even though I am not currently a member. Everyone I worked with throughout the day was welcoming and helped make it a good learning environment. This is a great gym where the instructors and students make it easy to learn. I definitely plan on going back.
Great people, family culture, so welcoming! Facilities are clean and a great environment to train.
I’ve been training grappling for most of my life. That being said I’ve seen all the horror stories of different gyms and success stories as well. Fathom BJJ provides the exact environment anyone needs to better themselves on and off the mat. Throughout the years I’ve seldom found such a collective effort to provide such a positive growth experience for all levels of combat sports as Fathom provides seamlessly. They provide amenities to the competition athlete that is driven for great championships as well as the hobbiest that just wants to stay in shape and even to someone just simply wanting to be able to defend themselves in an unwanted altercation. They’re truly a gym that wants whats best for what fits your needs. Try them out: you won’t be disappointed.
Charles and Taylor have built a family like culture at Fathom. Every member wants the best out of each other. Their instruction is top notch. Both have a lot of experience in martial arts. Its a great place for kids to build self confidence and learn what they are capable of. My two boys (ages 8 and 16) train at Fathom, I could not be more proud of how far they have progressed. They are stronger physically, emotionally and mentally because of Jiu Jitsu. As a parent its a great feeling to know your child can handle stressful situations that life will throw at them.
My son has been training here a year, fantastic progress and he feels fully supported and challenged simultaneously. Couldn’t ask for anything more. Best coaching and facility in the area.
An amazing school with amazing instructors. He has a deep understand of his art as well as how to teach it in different ways. This is so much more than just the art it's a way of life that generates confidence, discipline and peace. If you haven't checked it out you should. It's the best one I've ever been a part of.
Great place too learn all facets of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Great instructors,Clean facility, and a very welcoming group of people.
Dropped in while traveling and had a great roll. Each member of the team was kind, welcoming, and eager to teach.
A good group of people. All willing to help you learn
Good people who are doing it for the love of the art not the money.
It was an eye opening experience. The building and mats were clean. The first hand instructions were exceptional and informative. Everyone was informative and helpful. I highly recommend this Dojo for anyone looking to improve or learn this beautiful art.
Best gym around, hands down! From day one you’re going to realize the instructors, Charles and Taylor, are the best! They’re knowledgeable, humble, welcoming and as real as it gets. They make classes incredibly fun while also promoting high respect for the techniques. You’ll start noticing small ways your progressing every week. They also keep the place as clean as possible, which is an extremely important thing to consider. This place is a family, you’re going to bond with people quicker than you could imagine. If I didn’t have to move, I’d never leave this place, I love it. Thank you guys for such an awesome place.
I was so Happy that Fathom opened in Highland. Instruction is solid students are very friendly and it’s SUPER clean. Parents check out their kids program!🥋
The best activity you can put your kids in around highland area. The owners are friendly and professional. They offer adult classes, that my wife participates in, but the joy and excitement our kids get from going can not be overstated. They are extremely kid friendly and are able to instruct in a way that is both serious and fun for kids. I can not recommend this place enough.
Very clean place, knowledgeable owner!
