Gracie Humaita teaches the art of Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a form of mixed martial arts. Jiu Jitsu is used by many different people for different purposes such as self defense, in grappling tournaments, by law enforcement and even by military personnel.
We've been attending classes at Gracie for over a year and still couldn't be happier. The family-oriented atmosphere and strong work ethic promoted make it very special. I would definitely recommend at least giving a trial class a shot!

The best gym. As a mom of 3, the family-oriented atmosphere is extremely important to me. The coaches don’t care if my baby is crying or if we have to play “pass the baby” for me to get some training in. Amazing, welcoming atmosphere and even better people. Good people, great jiu jitsu.

We love Gracie in edwardsville. My husband and two sons attend. The gym is extremely clean and the coaches do a great job with remembering names and spending time with all their students. Would recommend

This gym is amazing, from the incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and friendly instructors to the members! Everyone is welcoming and willing to help out new students and old. It has become a 2nd home, gaining life-long friends in the process of getting a great workout and learning new skills.

A great place for children to grow their confidence and for adults to gain confidence they may have lost. Its definitely a challenge but well worth it. The instructors are fantastic and excited to teach.

A great family friendly academy with excellent coaches who are invested in their student’s growth. Myself and my three kids enjoy learning together and the coaches are great at keeping the us motivated while we get a great workout. This place is also great at supporting women and girls. The coaches make my daughters feel comfortable and encouraged.
Gracie Humaita Edwardsville is the best of the best! It has good people and great jiu jitsu. Our whole family loves training here. The atmosphere is welcoming, the professor and coaches are world class, and the exercise is fantastic.

My 2 brothers, my father, and I all train together at Gracie Humaita Edwardsville (GHE). The gym environment is incredibly welcoming and the instructors are all amazing. Joe, Dennis, and Chaz are very easy to talk to regarding questions about jiu jitsu or just having a fun chat before class. As someone who lifted consistently from 7th grade until 12th and doing many sports through high school, these jiu jitsu classes have been the best workout I have ever gotten and the most enjoyable. Whether your looking for a crazy caloric burn, meeting new friends, or learning high level jiu jitsu, which is easy to swallow for beginners, this the spot.

This is an excellent school for training. The coaches here are exceptional and highly skilled. Professor Joe and Coach Chaz are patient with their students and assist them in achieving their goals. Gracie Humaita Edwardsville is the perfect place for anyone and everyone. Young to old. Prof Joe and staff offer a welcoming environment and so positive. They treat you like family! Additionally, the academy is clean and very well maintained. My biggest regret is not joining sooner. There are side effects to learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: confidence, weight loss, fun, and camaraderie just to name a few.

Great professor and staff that definitely show their love for BJJ by being patient with the kids. The staff makes sure all the kids have a great time while learning solid techniques. Our kids LOVE coming here and we enjoy seeing them become better students because of the staff.

Friendly, welcoming, clean, safe, and world class knowledge. These are just a few of the reasons why I chose Gracie Humaita Edwardsville (GHE) for my family and myself. There are numerous reasons why other students choose GHE; fitness, self-defense, and/or competition. Whatever your goal may be GHE has you covered. You will not find a better place to do all these things and more. It can be tough walking through the door for your first class. Make no mistake, everyone wants you to succeed when you come to class. Everyone is there to help you learn and the other students are going to be glad you showed up. The one thing I truly love most about GHE is this… I can have the weight of the world on my shoulders when I come to class but for that one hour that I am there I am focused on Jiu Jitsu and nothing else.

Professor Joe Walters is top notch as not just a jiu-jitsu instructor, but also as a guy. He's created a culture of BJJ players who push each other but also keep the environment safe, respectful, and positive. Joining a BJJ gym can be scary; it's less scary when everyone's friendly, like they are here. BJJ is also just a great, practical way to get stronger, be more useful & harder to kill. Highly recommended.
Great place to learn Jiu-jitsu! The Professor is amazing. What makes this school better than the rest is the culture that the Professor and students create. Great atmosphere and people. No egos and no hot heads this makes for a great learning experience!!! You won't regret your decision to train here.
My 9 yo daughter and I both train with Professor Joe at Gracie Humaita Edwardsville (GHE). We have been there for about 6 months. The kids program is very supportive and takes a solid step by step process to teaching kids how to do the moves, respect their partners and their coaches. My daughter enjoys taking class 4 days a week and competing in local and regional tournaments. I’m a middle aged guy trying to be healthier so the GHE adult program is perfect. While there is a wide range of ages, most of the folks are white belts and as such in a similar boat to me skill wise. There are no huge egos and everyone I’ve worked with has been quick to help when I have trouble with a move. It’s a safe place to learn jiu jitsu whether you just want to learn and get healthier or if you want to do competitive jiu jitsu. Some folks compete and do very well, so the training must be on par or better than other local and regional programs. Highly recommend GHE and Professor Joe.

Starting my son and myself at this Jujitsu academy has been one of the best decisions ever. In my opinion it the most effective and practical martial art to learn for self defense. Not to mention great exercise. Here specifically there is a positive welcoming culture with a top notch black belt professor. I highly recommend to anyone both young and old.
