This gym is amazing, I can’t believe I never trained here before. So warm and welcoming incredible technique and skill Fabio is great, highly recommend 👍👍
I spent a fantastic week training with the team there at Fabio Clemente last Fall while I was in New York for work. While I'm still a beginner and a visitor, I was extraordinarily well-treated and supported throughout my visit. I couldn't feel any more welcome from the instructors to the other students. If you are looking for a highly technical place to develop your BJJ skills, whether you want to become an athlete or just a hobbyist, this is the place for you. You couldn't be in better hands than with Fabio, Zata, Pedro, or any of the other instructors at the gym. Highly recommended!
This is home for me, been training here for almost 2 years. The instruction is top-class and has prepared me well for several competitions. The mats/showers/bathrooms are all very clean, and the music is good.
Took a free trial and did the fundamental Nogi class with friends. Knowledgeable instructor and great environment.
Went here this weekend for my first ever jiu jitsu class! The instructor was extremely kind and knowledgeable and I felt very comfortable as a beginner
I have been doing jui jitsu for my whole entire life and I love it. There is so much fun stuff to do and the coaches there are nice!
I took the fundamental No-Gi for my free trial class after switching gyms and I haven't had a better work out. The warm-up had me feeling great and ready to go during drills especially since I had taken a month off due to moving out here. Overall great atmosphere and a place I would definitely recommend!
Very friendly environment. I was visiting from Texas made me feel at home.
Amazing instructors and supportive community, I had a lot of fun in my trial class!
Top-notch technical and physical training, a team of incredible, dedicated coaches, and a fantastic community are several of the many, many things that make StudioX a great place to train and learn. The culture at StudioX is also amazing. I'm new to BJJ, and I've been blown away by the amount of support and guidance I've received across classes and open mat sessions—from both instructors and experienced grapplers alike. Nobody judges you for not knowing what you're doing, and everyone will help you improve as long as you show up and demonstrate that you want to. 10/10.
Have been training here for almost nine months and I can’t say enough positive things about the stellar community and the amazing level of instruction. As someone with no prior experience, the instructors level of communication skill and patience was incredible. And everyone is so welcoming and committed to improvement, so grateful to have found this gym.
Instructors are awesome and community is very friendly. I’m learning a lot and feel welcomed as a complete beginner
Fabio was great! Really fun class
Fantastic gym, the instruction is top notch and the community is great, cant recommend it enough
Came to open mat, everyone at the gym was welcoming and great to train with!
I was searching for a workout that would help clear my mind, and I found the perfect spot with this family-run Jiu-Jitsu gym. It's an ideal place to train, where you can learn discipline, strategy, and have a great time with some of the best award-winning instructors. Huge thanks to Fabio, Zata, Vedha and Pedro for creating a club where everyone, no matter their skill level, can thrive. The entire community here is incredibly welcoming, respectful, and always willing to help.
Been training at Studio X regularly since early 2020. It's a great gym with a very welcoming and supportive community where everyone is treated like family. Truly a great place to grow and learn from some of the best in the sport.
After visiting countless gyms in NYC and doing free trials everywhere to find the right spot, it was an absolute no brainer to settle at Studio X with Fabio, Zata, and all the other great instructors. First off, the gym is very clean and well kept. There’s access to weights/lifting equipment if you want to warm up or even workout separately. The changing rooms are clean and private. I’ve been training here for 6+ months and should’ve left a review a while ago. This gym finds a great mix between pushing yourself past your limits to grow while still building friendships and community. Zata is the main No Gi instructor and has built a phenomenal curriculum. Each class is full of drills and technique that work well for all levels and have made me such a better grappler. Zata also teaches at a fast pace, which while sometimes is difficult, is extremely necessary for becoming comfortable with live training. Zata also welcomes everyone like family and in a sport where it can be frustrating, intimidating, and uncomfortable, he’s exactly who you want in your corner. I would hands down recommend this place to absolutely everyone and anyone who is interested in martial arts, self defense, and exercise. Anytime I’m in NYC, you know I’ll be here.
5 stars. Came in as a jiu jitsu novice, but the great workouts and awesome staff make you want to keep coming back.
Great gym. Very clean, good group of guys with different skill levels and the instructor was super thorough with his single leg X instructional. I’ll be back 👍🏼
Great location, great teachers and good training. Fun class to visit when in nyc
Love this gym sm its truly a NY institution. Excellent facility, vibes, and training. The legacy of this gym is unmatched!
I’ve been training here for 8 years consistently 3-5 days a week as a small older lady jiu jitsu hobbyist. Started training as a non boring way to workout, but loved it so much, I even started doing the boring cardio and weight lifting. With my long commute for work, I was able to take a 7am class, lift weights or do cardio, shower, and go straight to work. Couldn’t be more convenient.
I’ve been training at Studio X for two years, starting with no martial arts experience, and it’s been incredible. The community is welcoming, supportive, and perfect for beginners, especially women. The gym’s legacy as the oldest in New York, along with its deep ties to Brazil, makes it truly unique. I’ve attended barbecues, fight watches, and even traveled to Brazil to learn more about the culture. Studio X has been a fantastic place to grow and learn.
Very friendly studio, Very welcoming to beginners
Welcoming and encouraging. Highly recommend
Great roll
This is a great place to train and learn—The instructors are ALL amazing people, and in the classes I attended everyone explained things to me with both warmth and clarity. They have taken great care to foster a fun and supportive culture at this gym, and take the cleanliness of the facilities very seriously. I'm very much a beginner, but I can see why those who are devoted to this sport love to come here. Really looking forward to stopping by again!
An amazing gym with amazing people. Expert and helpful instructors and highly skilled helpful students at every class!
Everything here is amazing. It’s a more than a gym it’s a family. As soon as you walk in you can feel the positive vibe of this academy. Great for white to black belt. You train here everyone treats you like family.
Great experience training here! Enjoyed my class and had hard tough rolls. Excellent instruction and super fun room. Highly recommended!
Studio X is a top-tier jiu jitsu academy, and one of my favorite gyms to visit in Manhattan. The jiu jitsu is extremely high-level, the facility is clean, and the people are all very welcoming and kind. I recommend it for martial artists of any skill level.
Great open matt experience, first time there, will definitely be back!
Fabio’s is a great training environment and is very friendly and welcoming. If you’re looking for a place to start training or even just to drop by then look no further!
Very helpful instructors
Amazing atmosphere, a great gym to learn and develop on all levels. Huge shoutout to the great instructors that have made this experience one of a kind. I highly recommend this gym!
Having trained at several high level schools across the US, I feel lucky to train at Studio X now. It’s a great gym all around, high quality instruction, fun friendly environment—clean and safe mats—very welcoming especially for women. It’s truly a gem.
One of my best drop-in experiences. Attended a few 7am classes, found the morning crew to be a welcoming, fun, and very skilled community. Class was split into warmup drilling, then technique review + drilling, then a few rolls. Great instruction, and upper belts that knew the technique or drilling well were helpful once we split into pairs. This gym is spotless and has excellent bathroom and shower facilities.
I have been coming to StudioX for a little over a month, and have only had excellent experiences here! As someone with an athletic background but extremely inexperienced in a combat sport, the No-Gi Fundamentals have helped me to learn the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, make some great acquaintances, challenge myself physically and mentally, and learn a new skill for life. Facilities are great, the coaches are world-class, and the quality of the students is great; no jerks and egos are left at the door. Would give this 6 stars if I could!
Great instructors, great gym, and very friendly - feels like family. I’ve learned a lot here and would highly recommend this gym!
Beat place to train in NY. Instructors and students are all very friendly and welcoming. It’s great for Gi and No-Gi. There are multiple classes each day for all different levels. Each professor takes their time to give each student feedback and has their own unique teaching style.
Awesome place to train the finest BJJ ever in NYC. Always there when in town. Haroldo Mac Dowell, CMT Coral Belt.
This is an excellent gym for beginners and higher belts looking to join a gym with a positive culture and excellent instruction. I started training here as a new white belt ~7 months ago. As a first gym, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The people that train here and the instructors are--to a person--dedicated, humble, and intellectually curious. Color belts and instructors are always willing to help white belts improve, answer their questions, and drill/roll with them. Often as a white belt, I will find myself at open mat rolling with Brown/Black belts, who are always happy to give detailed feedback on tweaks, details, and improvements to my moves. My understanding is that this level of feedback is not the norm across gyms and is a testament to the culture here, which promotes an attitude of helping to develop newer people. After bringing a friend that has trained at several gyms over the last few years, he was likewise impressed with the humble and collaborative attitude of the people here at Fabio Clemente. The beginner classes frequently have two instructors and ~10-15 participants meaning that you get lots of personalized direction and attention which helps to accelerate your progression and ensure you are not improperly drilling complex movements. Typically, beginner classes include ~ 15min of warmup/individual drills, ~30min of paired drills, and ~15min of specific sparring. I highly encourage anyone interested in the sport or looking to switch gyms to give Fabio Clemente a shot!
I came to Fabio’s academy as a purple belt in 2017, when I was looking for a new place to train. Since day one everyone treated me like a member of their family. The level of instruction and training partners is also high and I can definitely say that my skills improved a lot. So if you want to improve your jiu jitsu and meet a lot of great people this is your place to go!
Accomplished, disciplined, and down to earth instructors. A clean and healthy training space with a tight-knit but welcoming community. Good class variety for all skills and goals. Everything you could want in a BJJ training space.
Amazing team offering the best that BJJ can be. I am in my late 50's with kids; been training here for over two years. I never thought I would be doing the things I do; but the instructors carefully introduced me to the skills needed to learn BJJ. Community is inclusive and warm. Kids program is thoughtful and strong. Studio is always impeccably clean. Couldn't ask for a better place to train.
Swag jiu-jitsu 😎 🥋
Amazing BJJ academy. Great vibe. The coaches are some of the best in the world.
Moved here from another gym and never looked back. Amazing team that makes you feel like you’re part of a family. Legendary coaches and instruction!
I love this gym! I’ve been training at Fabio’s for a little over a year and have learned so much. The instructors are poised, caring and masterful and the students have been welcoming and supportive. I’ve made so many friends and always leave more grounded and even more excited to come back.
Been training here for six years. Real family vibe. My two younger brothers train here with me, the gym is owned by a family, there are other families that train here. The classes are of a medium size so the coaches know you by name and pay attention to your personal growth , but there are a lot of different training partners so you get a wide range of sparring opportunities. I started as a white belt and the Fundamentals classes are fun, safe, and easy to follow
Amazing gym with world class instruction from high level competitors including masters world champion Pedro Fernandes and no gi world champ Vedha Toscano! Friendly atmosphere in this family run gym
This is one of the top gyms in the city / country / world. Unbelievably high level training but with the warmest kindest atmosphere. A true community
ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT HERE SOOOO kind and loving and i’ve learned so much and gotten so strong. i feel such a strong sense of community i will be training here forever
Awesome coaches, excellent vibes, great community
Great group of instructors. Everyone takes their time explaining the different moves that we practice. There is a definite family vibe at this studio. It’s also not overwhelmingly large so you don’t feel like an irrelevant member of a much larger organization. The instructors are also world class champions on their own right so a great group to learn from.
Top tier
My two boys (10 and 8) were interested in Capeoria. I’m always interested in expanding their experiences and I am so glad that we did. The classes at Studio X are small, so they get a lot of personal attention. Their instructor is teaching them advanced moves. Challenging them to advance themselves with moves like the Au Batido, but still focusing on the core moves and keeping the entire class involved. I love when I pick them up after class and they are excited to show me what they have been learning. They love mixing up their week by taking some of the kids jiujitsu classes as well. Which happens to be taught by a world champion black belt. A mix of conditioning, training and games makes the class fun and exhausting. I’m so happy to add these classes to my boys already busy week. They get more than just a work out. They take such pride in their accomplishments from these Brazilian martial arts classes.
We absolutely love these guys! Our 7 year old daughter has some sensory issues and can sometimes be a challenge, but the team here worked so well to support her. This is such an incredible sport for young children!
Best BJJ school in NY, bar none.
Easy to talk to everyone and the instructors give a lot of time to each student.
Oldest existing and family owned BJJ academy in NYC! Now in their new spot! Legendary 🤘🤘🤘
Top-tier BJJ gym in NYC. Everyone respects Alliance, and for good reason.
Could not imagine a better place to train. Great for both competitors, and those interested in self defense. Definitely worth checking out and joining the Checkmat Family
Our wrestling club trains here every Thursday 7-8pm!
Awesome spot!
Training there since '98! Y want no frills real BJJ without getting chewed up by a cauliflower eared MMA maniacs it's your spot!
I’ve been training here for a few years now and it is a great place to train. The environment is very welcoming. I came in as a blue belt after taking some time away from bjj but I felt at home from day 1. The instruction is detailed and instructors are always willing to help with whatever questions I’ve had. I’d recommend Fabios for anyone looking to train casually or competitively. On top of the instruction, the facility is also very clean
I’m visiting NY so came to try some classes at Fabio’s school. Had a very nice welcoming and felt like home. Amazing facilities, and very nice teachers. Oss
Great academy! Really feels like a home in a city that has such high level competitors that often leave you feeling left out. Fabio's really focuses on personal improvement over achievements within the jiujitsu community. Expect to be treated like family.
Having been to several other BJJ academies over the years, it's refreshing to arrive here as an outsider and be welcomed. Other places I've been were not welcoming at all to non-locals. So, if you're in NY on business/short term this is the go to place for you. Not only because of the very friendly/welcoming environment, but because of their very robust schedule. Professor Zata and Pedro are great instructors. They also have a brown belt female named Vedha that works here for any women that have concerns about fitting in. Professor Clemente has also been very welcoming, friendly and surprisingly humble. There is much to learn here so I hope to see you all on the mat! P.S. Vedha is really hot.
Great place! Great people. Very chill atmosphere. Professor Fabio is awesome at explaining. The environment is relaxed and without any pressure.
I can't recommend Fabio Clemente's enough. Not only is the jiu jitsu instruction top notch, but with the help of his kids (Zata & Vedha), Fabio has fostered a tremendously communal atmosphere in the gym. Whether you're an experienced competitor or someone stepping on the mats for the first time, the level of instruction and quality of training partners is unmatched. Top to bottom this is a world class facility.
I have never practiced sports before and joined Team Fabio Clemente in 2017, starting with classes 2x a week in the mornings. What I found here is a great environment, with top and dedicated coaches and teammates that are super invested in helping you improve and keep a healthy and vibrant community around the gym. The instructors are active competitors, with multiple accolades in international competitions, but still manage to be patient, kind, and super fun coaches. The head instructor, Fabio Clemente, is a living legend on this sport and a Jiu-Jitsu walking encyclopedia. The gym is always clean, has good showers, and is super close to the Union Square subway. I started with 2 classes per week but soon enough was doing 5, 6 and over the past few years have joined the team competing in tournaments in NYC and NJ.
Great place
Best BJJ school in New York!
Fabio's is more than just a place where you go to train it is a family. You will be inspired to work harder and do more than you ever thought you could not just for yourself but also for your teammates and professor. I have grown so much here! Highly recommend for some world class jiu jitsu.
Great BJJ and people
I've been training at Team Fabio Clemente for 2 months now and as a newbie to BJJ, or any form of martial art, I can't say enough about how welcoming & professional Fabio's program is. I had a friend introduce me to BJJ, but the gym he trained at was out of the way for me. For moral support, he joined me for my first training at Fabio's which was near my office, and after that training session my friend said, "This is definitely the place you want to learn". He couldn't have been more right. Fabio, Babs & Mike are all welcoming to beginners, extremely skilled/knowledgeable & they have amazing structure to their trainings. Each beginners session has a hand-full of non-white belts that support the class so you feel like you're getting personalized training. Without fail, I get a great workout while learning the fundamentals every time. If you're a first timer, I'd recommend calling ahead and talking to either Zata or Vedha - Fabio's children. I was able to schedule a 30 minute intro with Zata before my first training & it helped me hit the ground running. All in all, this gym is filled with good people and has a great vibe. I can only talk from my perspective as a beginner, but I'm looking forward to my growth in BJJ at Team Fabio Clemente.
I've been training here for two years and have never encountered such a welcoming and accommodating studio. The instructors are world class, the classes themselves are well structured, and there's a huge comrodery amongst the members towards anyone who steps on the mat.
This is a great place to train. The instructors are top notch and experienced students are very helpful and friendly.
I have to say this is one of the best if not the best BJJ schools in the city. The instructors are top of the game. Fabio and Babs are very knowledgeable in the art. Most importantly they know how to teach, to get the information to sink in. Fabio Clemente BJJ has deep roots of being the oldest BJJ school in NY. The facilities are clean and new. The mat space consists of two levels with a cardio area with rowing machines. All in all if you want to just get in shape or are into learning the art and getting involved, this is the school. No pressure for the novice or the seasoned BJJ player.
Great training atmosphere. Would highly recommend beginners thinking of trying out Brazilian Jiujitsu. I started training not knowing a single thing a year ago and never have been at a loss for help and support from other students and coaches. Their passion comes through well and gets you excited. Good mats and clean facilities with showers.
Great place to train. Incredible knowledge from the coaches and great competitors to learn from. The smaller gym really lets you get individual attention from everyone there.
Go try out this gym.. I came by for some training while in town on business. Family owned and run by father, son, and daughter- who are also some of the friendliest and coolest people you'll ever meet. Top notch training and world class instruction from some of the best in the martial arts world. The gym recently celebrated its 20th anniversary of operation in Manhattan. You can't go wrong here. I'll be back for sure.
Exceptional training, beautiful open, dual level training floors and, most important in my opinion, true TEAM comradeship.
