I’ve known my friend Alberto for some time now, and it’s always great to run into him at tournaments and watch him coach. He’s not only an excellent coach but also a great athlete. I’m really happy he opened his own dojo—Daruma Dojo. I train in San Francisco and live in Mountain View, and it’s always amazing that Alberto offers an open mat on Sunday evenings where anyone can come roll. You don’t need to be a member to attend, which creates a welcoming space for people from different gyms to come together and roll as one community. The environment at Daruma Dojo is always friendly and supportive, making it an excellent place to train. Highly recommend checking it out!

I joined Daruma Dojo initially because I appreciated the wisdom in the name, and the yearly membership is an excellent value if I attend 2-3 classes a week. Furthermore, they offer over a dozen adult classes and over a dozen of open mats each week; so even when life is nuts, I can go to class early morning, mid-day, or evening. And the longer I remain, the more I appreciate the team of teachers. They have loads of experience, catering to all skill levels, and they teach the sport like a life philosophy. Life can be difficult—but this place allows me to evolve, adapt, and train smartly.

You know those rare spots where you actually look forward to hanging out in the waiting area? As a parent who's tried all sorts of programs over the last six years, I can genuinely say this jiu-jitsu class stands out. The positive energy hits you as soon as you walk in, and the instructors have an incredible way of connecting with each child—whether they're shy, outgoing, or anywhere in between. My daughter started with just one class, but it didn't take long before she was asking to go three or four times a week. Every session is a perfect balance between fun and serious training, and you can really see how much the instructors care about each student's progress. There's zero pressure or intimidation here, just a supportive environment that keeps kids excited and learning. If you're looking for a jiu-jitsu program where your child can genuinely grow in skill and confidence, this is the place to go.
