I used to do TKD classes when I was in middle/high school. I really missed martial arts & wanted to switch it up so I decided to try my hand at BJJ. It’s addicting! The staff is incredibly friendly, easy to reach, and very willing to walk through any and all questions/concerns. The pricing is also comparable to other gyms that teach similar classes. The class schedule is flexible between the Portage and Schereville locations so you can go to classes that work for you (at each location). Every class is full of experienced rollers who are always willing to walk you through tips & tricks to keep you improving (making you feel individually cared for).
Absolutely the best. The atmosphere could not be anymore welcoming. The curriculum is extremely detailed, the people are all amazing, and the instructors are the best in the region! I guarantee if you have been looking for your forever home juijitsu gym you will look no farther. I am very thankful for everything Braulio Corral has done for me. Loyalty comes easy when you train here. You will never want to leave and be thankful you walked in the door.
Corrals Martial Arts is a Great place for aspiring martial artists, and hobbyists. They offer multiple variety of classes, each with certified and Professional teachers that help you reach your best potential. I highly recommend choosing Corrals Martial Arts.
Dropped in for a visit and had a great time! Great atmosphere, solid techniques, and fun rolls. Head Coach Braulio raises some killers here!
Great place to learn Jiu Jitsu. Couldn’t recommend enough.
My husband and I went and tried a free class 1.5 years ago. This first visit started us on an exciting path to learning BJJ. All of the Coaches have been amazing and have taken so much time to make sure we are getting the most out of our training. Whatever your goals maybe, to compete, create healthy habits, or to accomplish personal milestones, the curriculum is well organized so you always feel like you are on the right track. The environment is family oriented so please feel welcome to come in and give it a try! Us ladies are always looking for more women to work with! They have an amazing kid's program as well!
My daughter trains taekwondo at the Portage location and we love it. Great coaches. The owner Braulio has been very helpful with any questions we have had. Martin, Joyce and Josh are fabulous!!! Everyone that already was training there was very warm and welcoming. A very family feel once you get going. Highly recommended . We look forward to continuing to train for years to come.
I'm 55 and just started BJJ, the team at corrals is willing to help. Great place to learn.
Great place to learn Brazilian jiu-jitsu THE most effective martial art. Friendly welcoming environment. Coaches are involved and class is competitive
Decided to try BJJ here and I'm hooked. Great learning atmosphere and everyone is willing to answer your questions. Good place for both novice and advanced grapplers. The gym has just the right amount of people - small enough to feel as though you aren't overlooked but enough people to keep things interesting and build a sense of community. If you're interested in BJJ or other martial arts, I would suggest this place.
A great gym regardless of age, gender, or experience. The professors take time with every student and are passionate about the craft. Sessions are instructive and structured, but never dull.
Alot of knowledge and great experience. Recently joined and the class was well taught. Great attention to both advanced and beginner levels. Definitely looking forward to growing my knowledge in BJJ !!!
A great place to train! I'm very new to this but have been treated with patience and respect regardless of my skill level!
Great gym, very welcoming and inviting. I visited for a few days to train while on vacation and I had a great time. Everyone was very helpful and friendly, would recommend this gym to anyone looking for a bjj gym in the area
We loved this gym. They teach discipline, responsibility, and hard work. We really liked the leadership. The only reason for our exit was the demand of the multiple other sports our kids are in. Great place!!!
The system in place at Corral Martial Arts is one of the most exciting things about it. Clear goals and step by step technique. The instructors are very knowledgeable and make sure you're doing everything safely.
Best BJJ gym in the area
I have tried a few jiujitsu schools in the area and this one is by far the best. Friendly, welcoming environment, multiple black belt instructors on the mat for every class and everyone is happy and willing to help, super helpful team environment. They have their own interactive curriculum that helps students maintain clear goals, and instructors help students learn and navigate the techniques on the school curriculum. There are even specific classes designated to studying and working through the curriculum. A big emphasis on learning and progressing at Corral's. Mats are kept cleaner than any I have seen, they are cleaned after every class. Great programs for all ages and levels of skill. This is easily the best martial arts school I have tried in the area. First class is free and definitely worth a try!
The teachers are amazing and really dedicated to helping the kids learn and succeed in class. Safe, clean, and friendly environment. A great way to get your kid active while making new friends!
I've heard nothing but good about this place.
Such a good place building these kids up in their confidence and skills!
Plain and simple: my journey into the martial arts at Corral’s has changed my life. I have been training at both the Schererville and Portage campuses for a year and a half and it has been an awesome experience! I have lost 30 pounds, I am happier, healthier, and more energetic, and I have made a lot of great friendships. Most importantly I am always learning and challenged here. Professor Braulio has built a very special and distinguished school with engaged students and skilled instructors who challenge each other and help one another grow. The instruction is clear and concise, and there are always instructors and students to help you when it gets tough. Corral’s is professional, clean, and very family-friendly. It’s also very welcoming and fun! If you want to be a better, healthier, more whole version of yourself, Corral’s Martial Arts will help you get there. Note: While I don’t have kids of my own, I am extremely impressed with the kid’s classes at Corral’s. The students are disciplined, engaged, and very talented. I am often pleasantly surprised by the level of knowledge and skill exhibited by the young students. I highly recommend Corral’s to anyone interested in enrolling their children.
The care and effort they put into the students is astonishing. Coach Braulio and Coach Bre do everything they can to ensure every student is performing at their highest level. This school is simply amazing.
Amazing instructor! My kids have learned so much in a short period of time!
Spent short periods of time at other gyms but never felt like I had a goal. CMA has a well structured curriculum with small step goals. Makes it easy to learn and gives you square expectations. Instructors and coaches are very much about helping you learn, no egos present.
Wonderful place to train, great staff and great environment!
This place is amazing! A great place to train! I highly recommend anyone giving it a try...you'll be hooked.
This is a great place for kids and adults. The teachers and other students are very helpful and encouraging! The corral family is amazing!
I've been training at Corral's since the start of 2017, and can't say enough good things about the place. You will be entering a very laid back and welcoming atmosphere. It is also a respectful, fun and learning based environment. Professor Braulio is very knowledgeable and patient with his students. He also has an excellent group of instructors, many of whom are at the black belt level. Sensei Martin, coaches Paul, Brett, Aaron and many others are always ready to help anyone who is interested to learn and develop their skills. As if that wasn't enough, the training partners are an excellent day to day resource. We are working to improve and help each other on a regular basis with guidance from our quality instructors. I have, and will continue to recommend Corral's Martial Arts to anyone that is interested in learning a new martial art; or even just looking for a fun, productive activity within a quality learning environment.
My 2 grandaughters have been going to corrals for about 3 yrs and i cant say enought good about this place the coaches and sensi are great, there is no other place i would want them to go they spend a lot of time withe the kids training them and there is always at least 3 coaches per clss we love this place. And the girls love comming to class.
Our two boys both train at Corral. My oldest son won gold at Nationals after only 1.5 years of training. My little guy (6) was in OT (occupation therapy) about 1.5 years before joining his brother at Corral in Oct of 17. By December of 17, his OT told us that he no longer needed to go to her. His core strength had increased, his focus was better, and all of his reflexes were better. We noticed a big difference in his ability to pay attention and focus. Corral Martial Arts is the best!
I’ve been training at Corral’s for about 4 years now and I have to say everyone treats me like family. It’s very welcoming and Professor Braulio along with the team of instructors are very knowledgeable and are always eager to help. Amazing place to stop in and train
I have been a member with Corrals Martial Arts for the better part of 11 years now, and I can tell you that you not find a more well rounded Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school in the tri-county area. Professor Braulio and his team of black belt instructors are truly inspirational to train with. His team of instructors pay exquisite detail to every technique in the curriculum so you will have the optimum outcome and understanding of the movement being taught. This is what separates your typical martial art schools from his academy. An academy by definition is an " institution that aims to promote and maintain standards in its particular field", and this is the concept that is embraced here. Basic foundations are taught and achieved safely before advancing forward. Each particular rank has a curriculum that one has to demonstrate proficiency in before a promotion can be granted and this is not an easy task. But in the outcome you will be the best you can be....mentally/physically stronger, you will have great cardio fitness and become more focused. This academy is opened to all ages and levels of fitness. If you ever where interested in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu this would be the place to start!
Our oldest has been training at corral martial arts for over 3 yrs now. Our 5 year old just joined in February of this year (2017) and not only are both kids very happy with the curriculum but so are my husband and I. The sensei's and coaches are amazing with all the kids and I truly believe that we have the best school in the area! I would HIGHLY recommend Corrals martial arts to anyone looking to put their kids into a martial arts school!!!
This school is excellent, the kids program has to be one of the best in the country! If you are an adult and want to lose weight, get in shape or challenge your self stop in and give it a try.
We absolutely love CMA! The instructors are amazing and they work so well with our son and treat us all like family. I couldn't ask for a better place. We love that it is so close to home.
My kids and I have been training at Corrals Martial Arts for 7 years. They have one of the most highest ranking instruction team in the Midwest. All of the instructors started as white belts and continued their ranks in one location. That says enough of in itself. Now that there is a Portage location as well, I'm excited. It's close to home, giving us more opportunities to train. I love that it is family oriented. The instructors treat my kids as if they were their own. We are a big family.
Great place and teachers. We attend both the Portage and schererville locations. Can't say enough good things about Sensei Braulio and the team. 5+ stars in my opinion.
Took my daughter in for a free class. The staff is friendly and patient with the kids. I like how they have an age variety for the classes. I didn't get any pricing information on the classes. We will see how she likes it after today
****THIS IS A REVIEW BASED ON AN INTERACTION TRYING TO FIND A WOMEN'S SELF DEFENSE CLASS. I busted the website. The site offers information stating that they do indeed offer women's self defense classes. It states that it includes numerous types of classes, combined and teaches numerous types of defense. I'm looking for a straight self-defense class. I'm not trying to join a gym. I contacted them. They responded that they only offer kickboxing classes in Schererville and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Portage. No self-defense class(es), as the site explains/offers. I asked, numerous times, point blank to confirm this and they only repeated the above information, basically not wanting to admit the site is misleading. I get it. I worked sales for years. But come on. I don't want to take 3 or 4 different classes to learn 5 different moves that I can learn in an actual self-defense class.
