Bittersweet experience at Capokids. Coming from a Billingual school in Bradenton that wanted my 4 year old to sit still for most of her day my child was miserable, wasn't eating while in school and barely drinking water during her day, I knew I had to find a new pre-school for my child ASAP. And found Capokids LWR! my child enjoyed every minute of her 7 months here became more independent and even started drinking more water. Up until 2 weeks ago, I let the teacher/director of the school Mrs.Jenny that my child wouldn't be attending because we were in a car accident ( 05/02/24) and while things were getting settled I wouldn't be able to make the drive from Cortez, I still made payments for the 2 weeks my child wasn't there which is totally normal when in daycare, I spoke with Mrs.Jenny and let her know my childs last day would be Bautizado; So this was 1 week prior to Bautizado, Mrs.Jenny talked a good game saying she would have a folder ready for my child with the art work she has made in class made, being that she wouldn't attend the last day of school on May 24th. Day of Bautizado my child was one of the children graduating she enjoyed every minute she read the pledge. There was a table with purple folders for the children graduating, but none with my child's name on it, I asked two of the other teachers after Bautizado ended they looked all over, tell me how Mrs.Jenny didn't make one she couldn't even make a folder for my child being her last day and graduating ALL OTHER GRADUATES HAD ONE it's in such bad taste to promise things and not deliver, thank goodness my child didn't even notice for her it was the best day because she earned her cord. At the end of Bautizado Maestro Rony asked the parents to rate the school on Google and to consider them for the after school program they pick-up from certain schools, honest to goodness I was considering. The program the school is 5 stars. But ask me today If I would I come back to Capokids LWR for their after school program. Probably not, not after I messaged Mrs.Jenny after the Bautizado ended and again the next day asking about this folder, no replies. Literally couldn't care less to gather my kids art work off the walls like she said she would and having one week to do so, of course it's not her child.
This school is amazing and would recommend it to all parents. They teach structure, respect, capoeira dancing and most importantly the love the teachers have for the kids is beyond extraordinary!
My nephew has been apart of CapoKids for almost three years now and it’s been great for him! He enjoys it so much! We wouldn’t want him to go anywhere else for preschool and now afterschool!
Capokids is a staple in the Sarasota/manatee community. They have been around for two going in three generations and have helped to raise some great kids! My kids have been capo kids for over 7 years and I wouldn’t send them anywhere else! One of my daughters is actually pictured on the side of one of their vans! Great small business family run! Trust your kids with them, you won’t be disappointed!
My children have been coming to capokids since they were in preschool, they are now in middle school. Capoeira had helped with their self esteem, fitness, and given them a community. This is our family. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
My daughter loves Capokids so much that she never wants to leave and at home she says she wants to go to Capo . It's a high quality daycare . The experience is way above the norm. I've had bad experiences with other daycares and Capokids is Amazing !!
My son attended Capokids VPK. I was worried that we would have issues starting VPK, because he dreaded daycare and would cry every morning. To my surprise, he loved it here! All Teachers were great and supportive. My son had lots of fun, never felt out of place and has learned so much.
My Daughter loves this school and all the teachers here are amazing!!
Teachers at Capokids are very loving and have a good communication with parents. Kids are incentivized to practice sports and eat healthy. Our daughter absolutely loves going to Capokids.
My son has been with Capo Kids after school care since school started last year. He is in first grade and he absolutely LOVES it! (I wish I would've known about it when he was in VPK and kindergarten! He would've been there this whole time!!) He has learned so many cool tricks and moves it's unbelievable! He is a Capo Kid all the way! We listen to capoeira music ALL THE TIME!! No matter where we are he is listening to it. While he's in the shower, brushing his teeth, sitting in his room, at a friend's house, in the car with me, wherever and whenever, he has his capoeira music playing and doing all the moves he learned. I think it's just adorable! He is even trying to teach other kids how to do the moves! They have different outings and events to perform and show off their moves to the public and I love attending every one of them! Watching the kids and the adults is just phenomenal! I am very proud of my son and all that he has accomplished there! Mastrae Rony and Contra-Mastrea Sherry are terrific instructors along with their amazing staff. My son and I loves everyone there and we feel loved back ;-) Very happy, excited and pleased with my decision of enrolling him there. He will continue to go as long as he can. He was even talking about being an instructor there lol my lil man.....
who has its EIN? Need to file tax return,
I’ve thought hard about this review and I am going to go ahead and share. The teachers themselves is what makes this place amazing. My child has been going here for 2 years now and I’m very disappointed in the owner Sherri and her defensive attitude towards any form of concern or feedback regarding the program in their location. At the batizado cord ceremony last time the owner roni dropped a comment that didn’t sit quite right saying “if it wasn’t for you parents I would actually have to work for a living so thank you” It didn’t sit quite right with me and after talking to other parents yeah you don’t have to state the obvious. I get it you are the owner I get you pay yourself probably a good amount to live comfortably. Who wouldn’t right? However i left the ceremony and wasn’t thinking about it much more I’ve loved the academy and their teachers for the past 2 years never interacted much with any of the owners. Now recently I did encounter Sherri and I do have to say that there is poor attitude and arrogance that comes across when talking to the individual. People put their hard earned money into the program as a consumer and customer I expect from this business as I do from any other business a bit of compassion, customer service and hospitality. You work with the public and their children. You can’t come down from your high horse and meet people where they are at? Conversations are abruptly ended and feedback or concerns not taken seriously. I highly consider spending my hard earned money elsewhere in the future for after school as well as future camps. Sad, because the teachers is what keeps this alive. And I do feel this review will not change anything I just mentioned it will be a wash rinse repeat in this scenario for my child’s spot. Again to sum it up I’m truly upset about how I was being talked to by the owner the last 2 years I’ve been part of “paying their bills” …
I had high hopes for this capoeira aftercare program, but it was a huge disappointment. My child felt uncomfortable in the environment, and the lack of proper supervision was deeply concerning. On top of that, there is a high turnover rate among staff, which only adds to the inconsistency and lack of stability for the kids. To make matters worse, communication with the staff was slow, unresponsive, and completely unhelpful when I tried to address my concerns. When I made the decision to withdraw my child, I requested a refund for just one of the two weeks I had prepaid. However, they refused, citing their policy of keeping two weeks’ payment regardless of the circumstances. I am fully aware of their policy because I abided by it last year when we withdrew for personal reasons. But this time, we pulled our child out due to their failures—poor supervision, lack of communication, constant staff changes, and an uncomfortable environment. They absolutely have the power to make an exception when they are in the wrong, but instead, they chose to hide behind their rigid rules rather than take accountability. I understand policies exist for a reason, but when a child feels uncomfortable and the program is not meeting its responsibilities, there should be flexibility. A business working with children should prioritize their well-being, not just their bottom line. Between the lack of communication, poor supervision, constant staff turnover, and unfair refund policy, I cannot recommend this program to any parent looking for a supportive and responsive aftercare option.
Let's start by saying that 2 reviews we see here (Nina and CapoVam) are reviews from the owners, so it doesn't count and it should not be here. Owners should not review their businesses. This is a school owned by Brazilians and since I am also a Brazilian, I though would be great having my kids here. Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience and left this preschool extremely disappointed. It took me months until I decided to leave this review, but I think it's necessary - as parents we want our kids to be safe and away from the woke virus. I removed both of my kids (4 and 5) from Capokids Lakewood Ranch after my kids were exposed to information they were not supposed to at this age. The teacher and the director were present at that moment, and they did not ask any parents if it was ok bring this type of conversation to kids that young. As soon I learned this, I removed my kids from school and I heard from one of their teachers that they lost 5 kids in the same day. Positive points of school: Capoeira classes are fun. Negative points: absolutely lack of communication, really small place, long hours of unnecessary naps that my kids never liked, didn't have teachers with years of experience in other schools, and when the after school kids arrive it's overcrowded - there are no separate rooms from preschoolers and after care kids.
