This is my 3rd jiu jitsu gym since I have been training for the last 5-6 years. I've been training here at Gracie Apollo Beach for a few months now, and I couldn't be happier! Owners Luis and Erin are incredible—both black belts who train hard alongside everyone and genuinely care about each member's progress. They're always there with encouragement, tailored advice, and a positive vibe that makes you feel like part of the family. The environment is super friendly and welcoming. No egos here, just a supportive community focused on growth and fun. And the huge kids' class is a standout.....it's packed with energetic young grapplers learning discipline and skills in a safe, engaging way. That's always a great sign of a top-notch gym! If you're looking to start or level up your Jiu Jitsu journey, this is the place. Highly recommend—5 stars all the way!

Seasoned, world class coaches with experience. They are very good with guiding everyone across all ages, skill levels, and fitness/injuries. The prices are reasonable for the experience and fundamentals that last a lifetime and can be applied to other aspects of life. Everyone here has been helpful and they pour their soul in to helping you succeed. This is the only gym my kid has been to so I can't compare to others, but I don't think it's common amongst other BJJ gyms to have so many highly experienced/ranked instructors. There's usually 2 to 3 black belts with decades in the sport instructing. The lineage of the instructors also builds clout. Plus the occasional master classes from outside instructors to include Royce and Khonry Gracie. You just cant put a price on that.

Joining this gym has been one of the best things that I’ve done as an adult. From the moment I walked in I felt welcome and not pressured or a target for that matter. The coaches at the gym are respectful, caring and supportive while encouraging to take things at your pace and take breaks when your body is demanding a break. The members at the gym are very respectful towards each other and understand that we are not there to hurt each other but to learn the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and use the fundamentals to defend ourselves. We have been at Gracie Apollo Beach for almost a year now and we love all the coaches we have worked with. We have two kids attending now, one is 7 and one is 4. They both really enjoy going to GAB and learning Jiu-Jitsu from Coach John, he is an amazing hands-on coach who has a truly great personality and so much patience working with the little ones. The owners of GAB are Erin Harpe and Luis Mata and are both Black Belts under Rob Kahn and Matt Arroyo, they are both so nice and shining examples of the things you can accomplish with patience, perseverance and discipline. I can’t say enough about the benefits of Jiu-Jitsu in combination with traditional-style coaching. We decided to bring our daughter to this gym almost 2 years ago and it was the best decision we ever made. She may have cried on the first day, but she still wanted to come back. Coach Erin and Coach Luis and their entire team are amazing. We cannot say enough good things about them, their gym, the other people who train. They share their considerable knowledge freely and want her to be the best. When they opened their aftercare we were torn between the aftercare that our daughter had been at for the last few years and the extra cost of GAB aftercare. It has been the best money we have spent, Coach Chelsea is amazing. When our daughter arrived she was struggling with reading, and in the time she has been there she has become a straight A student. We are so proud. Chelsea is amazing and really cares about "her kids". If you are looking for a gym for yourself or your daughter or son, this is the place, they make you feel like family!!

Great gym, great people, amazing coaches. I started, with my son, a little over three years ago(my son was almost 5, let's just say I'm no spring chicken), not having a background in marital arts I was bit apprehensive about it(not only for my son but for myself as well) Within 5 minutes of talking to Coach Luis and Coach Erin I felt completely at ease. He invited me in to try a class and I've been hooked since. It's great excerxise and there really is a science to it(so you have to think) My son was a little more intimidated at first, after speaking with Luis we set up some one on one lessons for him. This made all the difference in the difference in the world. It gave him more confidence when he was in class. I can't speak highly enough about Luis, Erin, and all the coaches They've made a huge positive impact on my family. I'm confident if my son gets in to a tough situation he can handle it without even throwing a punch, subdue the person and wait for a teacher/parent Great new location, lots of space, clean. I don't highly recommend many things- I highly recommend this gym if you're in the area looking for a mma/jiu Jitsu gym or just starting out. Come on in and check it out.

My daughter joined a little over 8 months ago and has loved every minute of it so far. Coaches Luis and Erin are fantastic with the kids, strict without being overbearing, engaging and fun all while ensuring the kids stay focused. We are so thankful to have found Gracie Apollo Beach! Our son had been doing jiu jitsu for two years at a different gym. We came to GAB for a trial since it was much closer and we had heard amazing things about Luis and Erin and it was a lot closer to our home. We were welcomed with open arms immediately. The coaches were so welcoming and even the kids were amazing and friendly, and welcomed our son as one of their own in the very first class. Upon entering GAB, it was a completely different dynamic than we were used to in the best way. We signed up after just one class because we were sold on the experience! The environment is truly a family environment. The owners and coaches truly care about each and every individual child and what they are capable of. I thought it was amazing that the coaches observed my son closely and immediately knew what he was capable of and where he needed improvement. Thankful to Coach John for welcoming our kiddo to private lessons, and spending one on one time to help get him ready for competition season! We are so lucky to have such a great home away from home just down the road. The parents truly support each other, and the kids are some of the best and well behaved jiu jitsu kids I’ve seen. These coaches have helped teach discipline, respect, patience, kindness, and teamwork. Jiu Jitsu is our son’s outlet, he’s burning energy, staying in great shape, and learning something new everyday. GAB is the best gym I have ever been to! I’ve been to multiple BJJ gyms before and never felt as at home then how coach Luis and coach Erin have made me feel at GAB. I cannot say enough about the owners, coaches, members and families that are part of the Gracie Apollo Beach (GAB) family. The owners not only care about their business, but they care even more about every single person who is a member there. This is not a MMA gym where everyone crushes everyone. From the little ninja classes all the way up to adult classes, this is a family environment, filled with wonderful people who love Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Everyone cares about and respects everyone in this gym. GAB caters to brand new people who have never done any Martial Art all the way up to Professional Fighters. This is the family you want to belong to, you will be pushed and challenged and a safe and supportive environment. I have trained at numerous Jiu Jitsu and MMA gyms in the 10 years I've been training, and to say Gracie Apollo Beach is one of the best, if not the best would be the truth. The professors are both extremely talented black belts who care about their students. They aren't just the face of the academy, they are there every day grinding it out with the students. Gracie Apollo Beach, Luis Mata, and Erin Harpe are everything that is good and pure in combat sports. We drive over an hour one way to train with them, and wouldn't have it any other way. Highly HIGHLY recommended for all age groups!

Erin and Luis are a dynamic duo and have a clear passion as well as understanding of the art. I’ve seen them instruct at previous schools, as well as have been taught by them. They are even apart of the Gracie family lineage; if I remember right, I think Erin’s promotions have been given by Royce himself. I’ve viewed competitions hallmarking either of them, and you will become a competitor under them if you choose to pursue that, but both of them seem to exude a forte for actual real world defensive fighting. Jiu Jitsu isn’t they’re only martial art, and I think that has helped them stay grounded in reality, even as practitioners. They’ve taken the time and built the venue, if you’re wanting to become a better fighter and person, it’s time to come and improve yourself. I clearly recommend Gracie Apollo Beach.

My experience at Apollo Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was unfortunately marred by the unprofessional behavior of the ownership. While Coach John was knowledgeable and supportive, the owners displayed a shocking lack of maturity and self-control. On multiple occasions, I encountered issues with the facility being unexpectedly closed, often on weekends without sufficient prior notice. When I questioned "Professor" Mata about this, he responded rudely and aggressively, dismissing my concerns with a disrespectful remark. His demeanor escalated to shouting when discussing scheduling changes, which was completely uncalled for. Attempting to address these concerns directly with the owners only worsened the situation. During a call with L. Mata, he not only failed to address my grievances but also resorted to yelling and making threats. His unprofessionalism was alarming; he even went as far as threatening physical violence, which is completely unacceptable in any professional setting. While the quality of instruction at Apollo Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is commendable thanks to the instructors, the overall atmosphere created by the ownership's behavior is disappointing. Their inability to handle criticism with maturity and respect reflects poorly on the establishment as a whole. It's regrettable that such promising instruction is overshadowed by such poor leadership and management.

We absolutely LOVED the program. The coaches were amazing and my son had a great time. I re-signed up in May and paid a $400 upfront fee. For some reason, 5 out of the 6 last Saturday classes were canceled (see photos below). Being a working mom, I can only bring my son to a 445pm class 1x/week during the week plus Saturday. My ex-husband went to bring my son this Saturday and class was canceled again. They only notified us with a post on Facebook 2 hours prior. He lives in Lithia, so of course he was upset he made his schedule work to get him there today. I was not there when this happened (my ex being upset), but asked on Facebook if they would give me a call. I wanted to understand if they planned to do Saturday classes more consistently in the future. Otherwise, it is expensive for me to only bring him 1x/ week. Instead of calling me and having a conversation about it, they charged my card a $150 cancelation fee! Charged ME, not my ex- husband, which is just great. Wow...I'm just shocked!
