    I must say, this is by far one of the best Bjj establishments you’ll come across in our area. With a strong sense of work ethic and pride by the owner and lead instructor Mauricio C., the support of all other coaches, and the family atmosphere which they foster, you are home at last. They offer a variety of programs for kids at all ages to adults at incredible affordable rates. The camaraderie among all of the students and coaches promote a unique learning environment where we all learn and grow to be a better person than we were yesterday. I have said this before and I’ll say it again, Checkmat Riverview is my 2nd home away from home.

    Just passed through on the way to Arizona with my children. Maurício and all of Checkmat were awesome. On top of great instruction, we felt welcome as if we were longtime students across all age brackets (11, 15, and 39)! If I wasn’t moving we would call this gym home. Thanks for a great evening of learning and rolling. Keep it up, and we hope to see you again when we pass through.

    Today I went to this gym for the first time, it reflects all the values ​​of Checkmat, and a little more. The teacher is very accessible, friendly, very careful in every detail when teaching the technique, and making sure that one executes it correctly. The classmates are strong, fast, but careful enough to protect the opponent from injuries. I know of few places where you can practice jiu-jitsu as confidently and as safely as there.

    Having started my BJJ training late in life, I'm truly blessed to be surrounded by such fine people. Having grandkids, it's great seeing the kids blossom into fine, confident humans. Thanks, Professor Mauricio, and the upper classes for a great training experience. I'm learning a lot and have never been so fit.

    I stopped in to get some training while on vacation. I called Professor Mauricio to ask if I could stop by for the competition class but didn't have my gi. He was very kind, told me to stop by and provided me with a perfectly fitting clean gi. The gym was very cool(both literally and physically). Everyone made me feel at home and willing to learn. Definitely felt like home in just the 2 hours I spent there. Next time you're in Tampa or move here and need a gym, don't look any further. Oss
