My first time going into this place I was nervous. I walked into a training session but, I was greeted warmly by one of the instructors. He was very polite and made me feel comfortable and encouraged to return for a class. He knew a great deal of knowledge about martial arts and has trained in multiple styles. I think this academy is a great place to train.
Posted 1 year agoBest Jiu Jitsu academy in the area and I know them all! The level of jiu jitsu at Buffalo BJJ is by far the best. Great instructors!
The best Brazilian JIU-JITSU instruction in the region. What a great group of gentlemen and BJJ practitioners. Clean facility with plenty of parking and friendly people.
I visited here while on vacation. The school was welcoming, the professor gave me his attention and provided technical suggestions (not always a given when visiting non-affiliated schools) and I had a great experience. Thanks guys!
Love this place. Great for kids and the instructors really take an interest in them. They focus on the basics and keep them pretty evenly matched up so that none of the kids get discouraged when doing skills. Definitely recommend this place.
I’ve been going to Buffalo BJJ for a little over year now. It’s always felt like home since I first walked through the doors. I was away from the mat for over 8 months and when I came back it was like I never left. Everyone is welcoming and they have some of the best and most knowledgeable coaches around. Professor Chuck runs a great academy
Great coaches and great teammates make up a very inviting atmosphere. The flexible class schedule with plenty of beginner classes makes it a great place for beginners and advanced athletes. I highly recommend
This gym is incredible. Whether your a beginner or someone with experience, Buffalo BJJ is the best place to train. Great professors. Great student. Everyone is very welcoming and I’m so happy that I found this place
I’ve been training at Buffalo BJJ going on 4 years now. I can not express enough how this was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. This place builds strength, character, confidence, and prepares you for everyday life. You develop a family bond here with the amazing people you meet. We help each other everyday on and off the mats. The instructors and coaches are top notch and have the credentials to back it up. Buffalo BJJ is one of the longest standing BJJ gyms in Buffalo and Professor Chuck Anzalone is a pioneer in the Buffalo Jiu Jitsu scene!
I've been training at Buffalo Bjj for over 9 years now. I'm a purple belt. I'm the definition of hobbyist when it comes to Brazilian jiu jitsu. I can only make 1 or 2 classes a week, sometimes less than that. With that being said I still feel like part of the team. When the competitors go off to tournaments a part of me goes with them. We all shed blood sweat and tears on the mat (which are thoroughly cleaned after every class) so their achievements are our achievements. I've been in addiction recovery for most of the time I've been training Brazilian jiu jitsu and I believe without the training and fellowship of this academy, I would not be here 9 years sober. The positive changes that Brazilian jiu jitsu forces you to make both mentally and physically can not be understated. If you're a person who is facing issues like me, then get in to Brazilian jiu jitsu and get into Buffalo BJJ.
I have trained at many different martial art schools. When I walk talked through the door it felt like home. The students where very friendly and the instructors world class
Fun for the whole family! An awesome environment with high level instruction. A go to for beginners or the experienced. This place has a family feel to it everyone is friendly and helpful. My children love coming here and have fun while learning. With day and evening classes available you can train on your schedule. The academy is very clean and well kept. Professor Chuck also brought Bjj to Buffalo
Amazing place to train. I have been going here for 3 years and there are multiple black belts, including Chuck Anazalone himself (a De La Riva/Carlson gracie Blackbelt) that have taken the time to help me develop my Jiu Jitsu. The school's results speak for themselves. Multiple school trophies in local tournaments, student gold medals, and we've even had people place on the podium at the IBJJF world championships.
Been practicing here for just over 6 months now and I have had nothing but positive experiences while training here. Everyone treats one another like family and they have some of the best instructors around. I wouldn't want to train anywhere else.
The atmosphere is great in this gym. Friendly people and a clean facility. No excuses not to train here.
I travel for work and decided to stop by this school. They were very welcoming, humble and friendly upon my arrival. Very technical and playful when it comes to sparring. Definitely worth checking out.
Great place to train, top notch instructors lead by Professor Chuck Anzalone. You will feel like part of the BJJ Family as soon as you walk through the door.
i have been coming here since i was 6. i'm 12 and i still love it. the best school in the area!
Excellent instruction! The emphasis on technique and sparring has greatly improved my game. Classes both afternoon and evening allow for training around busy schedules. Classes consist of a wide range of upper and lower level students, and the more advanced students are always eager to help. An overall friendly environment. Highest recommendation!
Buffalo Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy is the premiere gym in Buffalo, NY to learn authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The instruction is simply on a deeper level of understanding. Many gyms teach moves, while at this Academy concepts, positions, transitions, are presented in an understandable way so that students can understand JiuJitsu rather than mimick it. If your in the area or visiting , this is the place you need to be!
I'm a relatively a new member of the Academy but my experience has been nothing but great. Chuck Anzalone is a terrific instructor and knows his BJJ like the back of his hand. I'm constantly learning and getting better everyday. The other members are friendly, always willing to help and give great advice. From advanced to beginners skills (like myself) I would highly recommend this Academy!
As a local Police Officer in the area, I was looking for the absolute best training for my job. I was referred by a friend, who had over a dozen years of experience and attended dozens of schools. He described this as the Harvard of Jiu Jitsu in Buffalo. I have attended this academy for over a year now and I cannot speak highly enough of the instruction, the great people and the cleanliness. The Head Instructor, Professor Chuck Anzalone earned his belts directly from Masters Carlson Gracie Sr. and Ricardo de la Riva. Anyone who is unfamiliar with these legends, need only google their names and read for a few minutes to see what an honor that is. World Champions travel here from as far as Brazil to give seminars throughout the year. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and very welcoming to new people walking through the door, but the training is a serious work out. While some come to learn MMA, others just come to learn self defense. Then there are those who come just to lose weight, while doing a fun workout, that also teaches them something valuable at the same time. Kids classes are popular and they have a blast, all while becoming "bully-proof." The Academy is building a top competition team with countless medals, trophies and awards hanging everywhere when you walk in. No matter who you are, what you do or what you are looking for, Buffalo Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has something to offer you. Come in and see for youself, try a class or just pop in, say hello and take a look around. You really dont have to take my word for it.. When the first 30 days are free, why wouldnt someone want to see for themselves.
First, I am submitting this review with a heavy heart as the brothers and sisters who taught my son over the last year are true professionals and gifted in child instruction...for you...you are 6 stars out of 5. That said...here is my story. On the morning of 1 20 22 I reached out to one of the instructors advising them that our son had a particular medical issue that from an epidemiological standpoint likely had been acquired from the dojo... I reached out as a medical professional with specialized training and as a concerned customer/parent... as a courtesy to assure that the mats were well sanitized...(I was profusely assured that they were)...but just to give them the heads up so that this (alleged) issue did not happen to anyone else. I thought to myself...hooray for me....I've done my good deed for the day....great! Nope. Within 12 hours of that initial contact...the owner...a person I have never met for the record....calls me...telling me that it's his company policy not to have any students with this particular medical condition in his dojo...that our 5 year old son is being removed from the academy...and that he will be refunding our money. I was like...wait...hold on fine sir...says the medical professional of 27 years...(me)...my son did not have this issue UNTIL he was at your dojo...and this issue is acquired from skin to skin or skin to mat contact...and...sir he is not on any other mats...and never had this before....no one in our family has, nor has any of his immediate friends...I'm bringing this to your attention as a courtesy...to help my brothers and sisters...and kids....on the mat...to help your business stay out of the funny papers....and our son is being removed from the dojo....like we can never...never... return despite how much he loves this martial art...loves all the coaches and instructors that have taught him...heck there was even a time when he was the only student that showed up for class? You are removing that kid? Wow. Know that as a student of martial arts for 16 years myself....I have the utmost respect for you...owner of Buffalo Brazilian Jiu Jitsu....but your decision makes me take pause...and reflect on how those in this country without any medical training are making decisions for those of us with medical training....it made me wonder why...as I am writing this...why I have to try and locate a mask...just so that I can go to the grocery store... Just a sad sad day for this martial arts family. Best of luck Buffalo BJJ...you will be greatly missed.
This is what they tweeted. Judge your self.
