I can't say enough amazing things about all the coaches at black flag. I'll admit it's a bit intimidating first coming in and not getting in the mats. Sitting on the bench you feel a bit like the non cool kid watching all the cool guys have fun but that doesn't last long everyone is inviting and kind and always joyful. You can tell this is their happy place. I signed my son up for the children's classes and was nervous these guys look intense but every single coach showed him patience and kindness and made sure he wasn't only safe but had fun. They remembered his name the next class and greeted him with high fives and he's laughed and loved every single class. The coaches the perfect mix of professional adult and fun older brother. We have tried a couple other gyms in the area but this was the best fit fit my 6yr old. They have a unique approach to teaching that makes it more like games then drilling. I'm so thankful we found black flag and found a group of people who are invested in everyone loving what they love. Thank you black flag for making us all feel part of the flag family. Definitely check them out for all ages!!!!!!

This is the best place to learn grappling in the rockford area. This gym goes above and beyond by bringing out some of the best talent in the business regularly to help it's students and the Rockford jiu-jitsu community in general get better. My daughter has gotten so much better since we started coming to blackflag. So glad to be a part of a team that just want you to do better.

Kenny and Aaron have the best gym, team, and environment in the area that is unmatched. To see the gyms growth has been incredible and will continue to grow. PSF is a gym that changes your life for the best while also teaching you JiuJitsu. Having the addition of a workout room is absolutely amazing for any athlete or someone wanting to get into shape. Updated 6 month Review: Shortly after the open mat I decided to switch to coming the Black Flag full time. In the last 6 months I've see considerable growth in my game. Aaron is deeply involved in the ecological approach to jiu jitsu which focuses on teaching you how to move, over teaching technique, so our comp classes are heavily focused on that. Then you include the highly technical black belt Kenny Martin who is always willing to go above and beyond to help you with any issues you're running in to. We have white belts who have been training for a few months winning BJJ tournaments. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone interested in getting better faster should come here. It is not easy, but the results you're looking for are often hidden in the work you're avoiding. Previous Review: Came to Black Flag for the open mat to get some good rounds in. Aaron and Kenny rolled out the red carpet. This is a big facility, and they seem to be focused on making it better and better. Top notch jiu jitsu, everyone I sparred with was highly technical at all belt levels. I’d highly recommend training here if you want grade A training from the best black belt in the area.

Exceptional gym with a great environment. This gym is a great choice wether you’re a 285 pound man or 110 pound women, black flag has partners for you who are happy to help you learn and improve. Open mats are the busiest day of the week but also the best time to drop in and meet some new people.
