All I can say is that this place is AMAZING!!! I dropped in today from another gym, an hour and a half away, and it was truly worth it. Professor Marcos is extremely high-level, and I am so grateful that he rolled with me for five rounds. I learned a lot from him, especially when he spoke to me about having the proper mindset and training for competition. He even took some time getting to know me, which is something I don't experience when I drop into other gyms. His students were very technical, friendly, and welcoming. It was great drilling rolling with Joe (Huang). He has great Jiu Jitsu like Marcos, and it was fun rolling with him. I strongly recommend that anyone who lives in the area train here. The instruction and training are world-class. I plan on dropping in every month to sharpen my skills and to supplement training at my academy. Thank you, Professor Marcos and Joe, for having me. You guys are awesome, and I hope to see you in the future.
Posted 1 year agoI've been a member at this academy for only 2 weeks and it has drastically exceeded my expectations. The instruction is incredible and environment is extremely welcoming. The instructors are top notch and they work to help you understand fundamentally the sport of Jiu Jitsu. Every class has a purpose and a direction. I'm very excited to continue my journey with this academy.

Was traveling to the area on short notice and happened to realize how close this was to me. Reaching them was easy and they were super friendly and welcoming on the phone. Realize this was a short notice unexpected destination trip for me, so not having my gear drove the price up. Drop in fee was reasonable at $40 for the location and quality of instruction. Gi rental was a bit high at $30, but it was a nice Gi. Bought a rash guard (fan boy) so that upped my cost a bit. (Note to self…always bring my stuff…and don’t tell my wife). That being said, the instruction was awesome…well placed warm up and transitioned training (tonight was DLR) by Marcos Tinoco where we stepped through 4 transitions and expected responses. Then rolls…first time I had ever done what they called trios (2 in, 1 gets a 2 minute rest…the. When the “fresh” guy comes in, they push the pace)…I got two equally sized blue belts (I am almost in striking distance). Here is what I liked…I was the new guy and the visitor and they were coaching me as if I belonged. Rolls were quality! Everyone was amazing and welcoming! Marcos even came by to chat in my restaurant round…although I could barely breathe. Will be back again on future visits…it was a great time!

I’ve trained here twice while on a work trip. I’ve been to over 50 BJJ gyms around the world and Bernardo Farias in Bedford is one of my all time favorites. Attention is placed on every person in the room and the training is intentional, difficult, and practical. Professor Tinoco is one of the best in the world and the academy has a great overall feel. I drive an hour each way to train here. Do yourself a favor and stop in.
This is my second gym having moved close to the area. I can attest that this gym challenges you in all the right ways if you’re looking to stay fit, be a competitor, and be a part of a supportive team. I love leaving class tired and feel amazing after.
I’ve trained at a lot of gyms across the country, some with massive classes and famous instructors others small and personalized. This is the best instruction in BJJ I’ve ever received. The instructors, in addition to being world class competitors, are able to link specific techniques to larger sequences seamlessly. The foundations of my game have never been stronger as a result. In addition to the excellent training, I’ve never felt such a strong sense of community. I feel connected to my teammates every day I train. Thanks to Hana’s hard work and that of the other women training at the gym, there’s growing gender parity on the mats, which is great to see. Everyone is respectful and ready to welcome new faces. I’m blessed to train at this academy regularly and plan to stay there as long as I can. Come train with us!

Everyone's greeted with warmth and enthusiasm—it's contagious! What truly impresses me about this place is their commitment to inclusivity. No matter your age or skill level, you're welcomed with open arms. For our seven-year-old son, this is the highlight of his week without fail. Marcos, Hanna (black belts), and Jared (brown belts) are absolute gems with the kids. It's rare to find individuals who excel not only in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but also in teaching and connecting with children. Yet, here, they effortlessly blend all three skill sets, making each child feel seen and valued. They really care and it shows. Unlike some kids' martial arts programs that feel more like glorified daycare, this academy offers the perfect fusion of fun and skill-building. Here, kids aren't just burning off energy; they're also developing real skills, and making real friends on the mats, thriving in a supportive environment. The balance between discipline and enjoyment is what truly sets this place apart. There's no place for egos or drama—just a community united by their love for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and their commitment to uplifting one another. The facility itself is nice, immaculately clean mat space. If I had to nitpick, the only downside would be the limited changing space. After witnessing our son's growth and confidence, we added our four-year-old to the Little Sharks class. It's the perfect blend of playfulness and skill development, and the kids absolutely adore it! Jarod is great with the little ones! short busts of activity for a few mins then fun play for a bit great balance to keep them into it even some songs that will get stuck in your head for the rest of the day! For me, returning to BJJ after more than a decade away was nerve-wracking, but the supportive atmosphere at Bernardo Faria's academy made it easy to start back up. The instructors are not only knowledgeable but also incredibly approachable, fostering an environment free of judgment and full of encouragement. So, whether you're a seasoned practitioner or a complete beginner, I wholeheartedly recommend checking out Bernardo Faria's academy. It's more than just a place to learn BJJ—it's a home where families can grow, learn, and succeed together.
So glad I walked through their doors.. I’m a 48 year old transfer student from another school.. they made me feel welcomed , and the training is top notch, plenty of classes on the schedule.. more classes scheduled means more opportunity to train. Which in my humble opinion is a huge win!!

I started bjj in Nov of 2023, at age 35. I had not past experience with bjj or any martial art besides Karate when I was 6. I wanted to try bjj to stay active and mobile to keep up with my new born and I’ve always been interested in learning a martial art. After visiting a few bjj spots in my area, Bernardo’s was the obvious choice for me. What set them apart for me, was their beginners curriculum. They make sure you learn the basics before being introduced to life rolling. To me that was very important as It minimizes the risk of injury as you start to learn a new skill. It’s also very important to mention the quality staff and teachers. Marcos and Jared are absolutely amazing! They really break it down for you and make sure you are understanding the techniques. I came across Bernardo’s because it was close to where I live, little did I know he was among the best in the world and people travel long distances just to come train here. If you live near by, this is the place to be. I am now obsessed with bjj and greatfull to have Bernardo’s gym near me.
This is a great sport/code of life for young children and teens looking to develop body awareness and self esteem. The programs for young students are really effective and catered to their learning and development. My teenage sister trained with Jared Welman and my 4yo son has started training with Marcos Tinico. Both of them showed marked signs of grounded happiness and self confidence, not to speak of the high-level of artistry/teaching that is happening at this academy. This is a place fueled by passion and excellence. 11/10 recommend!
My five-year old daughter has been going to Bernardo Faria’s BJJ for a month now. The coaches are great and are manage to turn the classes into a fun interacting activity, while also teaching the young kids great skills. My kid is always excited when it is time to go and do the next class.
My daughter had spend a month at the Bernardo Faria Academy a year ago and was raving about the level of instruction and the progress she made under Marcos Tinoco’s tutelage. When visiting Boston I just had to drop in. I had an amazing time. Loved the high level instruction, rolls and the welcoming atmosphere. Definitely where I would want to train if I lived there. I am going to go their on Wednesday and when I went to go watch a friend of mine (Theo) I learned that Bernardo Faria way of teaching the kids Brazilian Jiu-Jiutsu was a fun and challenging way to get kids into martial arts and was a great day

The Bernardo Faria Academy provides the best jiu jitsu training available. Coach Marcos heads up the best coaching and teaching I've ever had the good fortune of learning from. Additionally the mats and facility are clean and the staff and community are reasons why my training has become the most meaningful part of my day.
I started training at Bernardo’s a few months after it’s opening and can tell you the person you see on the instructional is exactly the same in real life. His explanation of technique, breakdown of position, as well as stories and sense of humor make retention easier. The gym atmosphere is welcoming and positivise, and you never know what surprise guest may walk through the door. Besides Bernardo all other instructors have been amazing as well. From Matheus Gonzaga, to Giancarlo Bodoni, and most recently Marcos Tinoco the instruction is always world class and consistently top shelf. I most recently had a private with Marcos Tinoco and within an hour I had corrected some bad habits that have been holding back pieces of my game for years. He not only shared some of his philosophy on creating connection but was able to break down my particular style and give me focused solutions to holes in my game. I highly recommend doing a private class with Marcos Tinoco and then staying for class after to implement the new tools in your arsenal. I also highly recommend training at the Bernardo Faria Academy besides the advantages of improving your Jiu Jitsu, the Academy will also improve your overall mood.

Got your fundamentals instructionals from BJJ Fanatics. This has really helped me to begin to understand BJJ and I've been using it on the mats to speed progression. Bernardo is a great instructor! I was in the Boston area from the Dallas Ft. Worth Texas area for vacation and went and trained at Bernardo Faria’s gym for a workout. I felt welcomed from the second I walked into the gym. The staff, instructors and students were very welcoming and very helpful. The class was led by Marcos Tinoco. Marcos even took the time to give me a pointer about a technique I was doing. Coach Marcos Tinoco is the best of the best. He holds students to account while also keeping the room light and fun. It has been monumental in my development as a jiu jitsu practitioner to have a world-class accomplished grappler like Coach Marcos tell me I am capable of achieving fluency in this incredibly dense sport, and providing timely advice on what to do to get there. I pass by 5 other BJJ schools just to come here because of the quality of the classes and the great atmosphere.

Of course all can see the up front face of the school is the great instructors, facility, and top notch classes, but behind the scenes is often over looked. I had kind of a wierd job issue that kept me away from training and failed to really mention it, till a year later. When I did... Rayra said "No problem, we wondered were you've been, I'll stop charging your credit card now, and you have one year credit when you return." WOW! Now that's customer service!
I got the opportunity to come to Bernardo Faria Jiu Jitsu and work out with a class led my Marcos Tinoco. Bernardo was there as well. Amazing class that turned out to be a terrific workout. The instruction was detailed and patient and Marcos was very encouraging. The other students and instructors were very welcoming as well. I got to see a kids class before and they were having a blast. I will be traveling to the Boston area often and will definitely be back.
Our son (age 9) has had a wonderful experience there this year. Supportive and kind teachers, super clean facility, valuable skills taught, and a great workout.

I’ve gone just to three classes, and it’s been very good. The free trial class captures low hanging fruit, like how to fall correctly and stand up effectively. Then, when you start doing the “real” class, they walk you through and make sure you get it, for beginners like me. It seems this place has only 5 star reviews except for two people with the same complaint. Idk who that bad staff member is but so far everyone their has been nice. Hopefully they can root out whatever problem that was
Bernardo and team have figured out the winning formula: world-class instruction (even for hobbyists), a great culture, and clean facilities. Additionally, the kids program is fun and teaches life skills in addition to jiu jitsu. If my knees agree with me, I will be a long-time member.

Just started going here a couple of weeks ago and I am certainly glad I made that choice. Everybody is incredibly welcoming and helpful and they all push each other to make everyone at the gym better. The facility is clean and has multiple training rooms and showers as well. Great place to train and learn from some of the best Jiu-jitsu has to offer.
I am visiting from Hawaii and wanted to train with Bernardo. I had a great time and got to roll with him and some of his top students! The people at his academy are very welcoming and friendly. Bernardo is a great professor! Highly recommended!

Top notch instruction from IBJJF World Champion Bernardo Faria and his team. This is not an affiliate it is Bernado's actual academy. Not only is Bernardo a world champion in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu he is a great guy who always has a smile on his face. He treats everyone from the kids to the competitors the same. All academy's have a culture driven from the top and at Bernardo's it is a warm embracing culture. He also has a top notch group of competitors so of you want to compete you can't find a better instructor to mentor you.
Very laid back location run by one of the greatest in bjj competition history. Instruction was fantastic, students are very nice, and the vibe is great. If you're in town do not pass up the chance to train here.
I haven't had the chance to visit Bernardo's facility quite yet, but I trained under him at Marcelo's in NYC. Bernardo was a helpful and very kind instructor. Much of my current style uses what he taught in class! I can personally attest that you can get a lot of mileage out of Bernardo's techniques when you aren't the most graceful person on the mat! Edit: I visited Bernardo's facility and it was wonderful. I heartily recommend you visit!
I can't say enough how impressed I was with this gym. Obviously this instruction is the best you can get, but the gym is so clean and orchestrated in a way that makes it feel like a home. My favorite part was having two showers, as I hate going home unclean. All the students were nice. The staff is exceptional as well.

I had the pleasure of visiting Bernardo's Academy on April 2018 for a couple of days. The experience exceeded my expectations: The academy has a very welcoming environment, all the students and instructors are very friendly and talented; and I was surprised how Bernardo, a 5 time world champion, would spend one on one time giving directions to students from all levels, as well as sparring with us. I will definitely be back to visit at the next opportunity.
I trained in several gyms and i can tell Bernado's is where i had the best Bjj experience so far! Aaron, Matheus and Bernardo are making such a great team. No big ego here! Everybody from students to instructors is nice and warmful! The classes are very well structured and the gym is beautiful! We drove 5 hours from Montreal to get there and let me telling you it worth the drive! I wish i could train there on regular basis. Highly recommend.
Words cannot describe this experience. After competing at a local tournament we decided to attend a few classes at Professor Bernardo's academy. The academy was extremely clean and everyone was welcoming. To top things off, the level of jiu-jitsu was out of this world. Without a doubt, I would highly recommend this academy to anyone!

I couldn't have been more excited to visit the academy. I was scheduled for a trip to Boston and added on a day just to train and I'm glad I did. Only wish I had a whole week. Great instruction from Matheus Gonzaga and Bernardo. A great fundementals class and an advanced class. Fun, friendly spirit that clearly starts at the top. I will be back.
Amazing training with Bernardo, such a knowledgeable and welcoming guy with amazing Jiu Jitsu. The facility is clean and spacious and there is a good mix of levels to train with. Will definitely come again when in the Boston area.

I was in the Boston area and found out Professor Faria had opened his academy in Bedford. I was able to take a fundamentals class and was able to stay for the intermediate class after. Everyone there was very welcoming and great to work with! I couldn’t have had a better experience! If you live within an hour of Bedford, this is the only place to train!
This is the obvious place to train Jiu jitsu in the area. Great for beginners and expert students. Bernardo is so nice and a great teacher that can show simple details to make anyone better.
It was an absolutely wonderful experience training at Professor Bernardo Faria's BJJ academy. He is master of the deep half guard and pressure pass, which is what my game is all about. Hr opened the academy earlier this month in Bedford, MA and already has a great group of guys training here. I highly recommend this academy to anyone living or visiting Boston or the surrounding areas.
Bernardo's instruction is the best. He teaches a focused curriculum, emphasizing techniques that he has been using to beat the toughest guys in the world for a decade. And like Marcelo Garcia, whose academy he trained and taught at for the last 5 years, he does it with a huge smile. If you're located anywhere near his new academy you should definitely drop by and experience it yourself.
I trained with Bernardo at the elite MGA in NYC, never in MA. He is a passionate, joyful, experienced, top BJJ competitor and multiple world champion; his half-guard system is formidable. I rolled with him once - I was the dough he was the roller (blue belt).
This place is awesome. Obviously you know it starts with Bernardo - there's not many places where you can learn from a 5X blackbelt world champion. The school itself is great too, all done over brand new inside. Super clean and well taken care of. Great new addition to the local BJJ scene!
The name of the gym speaks for itself. Bernardo Faria, 5x World Jiu Jitsu Champion. Just that would be enough to make the gym an amazing place to train. But on top of that, Bernardo is one of the nicest people you’re going to meet. Amazing teacher, besides being very technical and knowledgeable, he’s patient and breaks down the technique in a way that anyone can understand. You can rest assured that here you’re in good hands.
I cannot recommend Bernardo enough to anyone interested in learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He is a great teacher, training partner and friend. Somehow he manages to combine one of the fiercest personalities I have ever seen in training and in competition with an equally friendly attitude both on and off the mats. He is truly one of the nicest people I have ever met.
I had the pleasure of training with Bernardo at MG academy. This guy is a great instructor and an even nicer person... oh did I mention he's an animal on the mats??? If you take classes with him you won't be sorry. He's a class act and your BJJ will improve.
I had the privilege of training and learning under Bernardo for close to a year and a half and under his guidance I saw the largest amount of progress I have to date. He is a very thoughtful and helpful instructor and one of the nicest people to train with and learn from in the jiu jitsu community. Just had the pleasure of training for a few days at Bernardo's new school in Bedford MA. What a beautiful gym. Every time I am around Bernardo I am amazed at what an intelligent gracious and downright humble guy he is. Oh and by the way a complete beast on the mat. I met Bernardo a few years ago at a seminar and started using his deep half system. I won the Master Worlds at blue belt after training his system for 12 weeks. I then placed second the following year at Master Worlds as a purple belt. I'm 54 years old and can now hang with any of the young guys at my gym. His system is a life changer if you are over 30. All I can say is that if you live in the Boston or surrounding area you should join Bernardos gym. You'll kick yourself if you don't. I look forward to seeing you guys a couple of times a year as I travel up from Nashville TN.
I had the opportunity to train with Bernardo for over a year and a half when I was just a white belt taking mostly beginner classes. I honestly couldn’t believe how genuinely kind this multiple time black belt world champion was. He gave everyone the same time of day, whether they were a visiting fellow world champion, or a day 1 white belt. He approaches everyone with the same smile, humility, and positive attitude. Bernardo was a coach of mine in NYC at Marcelo Garcia's Academy. You would be hard pressed to find a kinder more caring coach with his acalades and accomplishments in BJJ. As a coach his lessons are battle tested and relayed in an easy to follow effective manner. Bernardo is an amazing person and you would be lucky to train under him.
I trained with Bernardo for several years at the Marcelo Garcia Academy in NYC. His class was always fun because of Bernardo's personality. He is super friendly when he is teaching and dealing with students. He is a multiple time World Champion and when he rolls with high level students and peers he is deadly serious. He strikes that perfect Yin / Yang of playful and serious. The techniques he teaches in class are the same ones that have led him to victory in so many matches against the best of the best. If you live near his academy this is a place you should check out whether you are a weekend hobbyist or a competitor with dreams of becoming a World Champion. I assure you that Bernardo will be a good fit for both types of students.

Bernardo is a fantastic teacher and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Bernardo is a great teach and an overall good guy. Easy to talk to and eager to share his knowledge. Gym is in a converted house. It has multiple rooms to allow for privates and training. Showers and locker rooms are available after you're done training. Everything is very clean and Bernardo ensures the place is well maintained. If you are looking for a great coach and a good place to train this is it.
I had the opportunity to visit Bernardo Faria's academy from Australia during a brief work trip in January 2018. It is a fantastic gym with excellent facilities and world class instruction from the friendliest guy in jiu jitsu (who also happens to be a 5x world champion). Bernardo and his team made me feel incredibly welcomed and it was great to see him take a genuine interest in all of his students. He taught a variant of the over under pass which I found highly effective against larger opponents and he covered a number of important details. I cannot recommend this gym enough!
I came here from Florida to be able to train with Bernardo. This is the best academy in MA easily and could contend for the best academy in the world. Three things distinguish this academy as the best. 1. Bernardo is a world champion with an abundance of knowledge, not only is he a champion on the mat but he has the same behavior off of the mat as well. Bernardo exudes a very radiant and positive energy and is among the nicest and most genuine people I have ever met. He carries and displays himself as a true champion. 2. The atmosphere is unbelievable. The gym is not so large that it is intimidating but still has the perfect ambience to feel welcoming and offer plenty of space. Everything is state of the art and the facility is exceptional. Going further, Bernardo emits positivity and happiness that spreads across the room. Everybody is happy to be there and extremely friendly. 3. The instruction is second to none and this is the most authentic technique you’re going to find anywhere. The combination of all of these things constitutes this academy as one of the best in the world and it will quickly become recognized as one of the top training destinations there is. Happy to be a part of such an amazing place.
Trained here for a month last year. Despite the class and students themselves being great something felt off in regards to one of the staff members here, I felt like this particular person had some kind of personal problem with me, eventually developing into mild harassment by said staff member towards me making me completely uncomfortable with training here. I would subsequently withdraw from this place and will never return. Overall I had a bad/sketchy vibe the last time I was here.
Class and instructors themselves was pretty good, got a bad vibe from one of the staff here who made me feel uncomfortable. Subsequently making me decide to no longer go to this place.
