very welcoming gym, not only are the coaches very respectful, but so are the members. I am very glad i found atheneum!
Started training two months ago and everyone has been very supportive and nice. Great place
Our experience at Atheneum has been great! Great people, and a great atmosphere.
Atheneum Martial Arts has been a great introduction to jujitsu for our 7-year-old son. He had no previous experience or exposure, but the coaches have made it easy for him to learn, grow, and have fun. Highly recommend!
Did a drop in at Atheneum. Great vibes, friendly people, and clean mats.
Great and supportive gym for my son to learn BJJ. He has had great teachers, friends, and fun at Atheneum!
Great martial arts gym!! Super awesome for if you are new to bjj or if you are more advanced. There's something for everyone! Great environment, great people, and a great way to grow in fitness and self defense!
The coaches and fellow students in the sessions I've attended create a welcoming, lively learning environment that is inclusive and informative to athletes of all ages and experience levels. As a late-twenties beginner myself, I always feel safe physically as well as socially here because people have been helpful, supportive, and patient with questions I've had, mistakes I've made, or techniques that have taken me extra instruction and time to get right. The facility is kept clean and organized. Also caught a holiday season yoga session here, a much-needed vibe reset for me before the new year!
Highly recommend Atheneum for beginners and advanced practitioners alike! Sikai and the team provide exceptional leadership, with patient, engaging instruction that challenges all skill levels. The gym is clean, professional, and has a welcoming atmosphere. 10/10 experience!
Overall, definitely a worthwhile experience. Feeling stagnant with the everyday gym routine, I wanted to try something new and diversify my fitness journey. The classes are both challenging and rewarding, providing opportunities for personal and physical growth. The community is welcoming, friendly, and collaborative. The instructors are knowledgeable, each bringing their own unique styles, perspectives, and backgrounds to their classes. You can tell that the owner Sikai truly takes pride in his gym and in building a passionate culture. It’s inviting, well organized, and I’ve really appreciated how responsive and active he is with communications both personally and broadly to the general community. There’s no shortage of benefits to be gained from martial arts, including improved mobility, physical health, mental health, and cardiovascular health. Although the physical benefits often get the spotlight, there are also significant brain health benefits that occur over time, such as enhanced focus, memory, and decision-making skills. Martial arts training actually boosts neuroplasticity, improving the brain’s ability to adapt and learn new skills, one of the key reasons I wanted to add this type of training to my fitness routine. Although learning any new skill—like mastering a new “language” for your body—comes with challenges, difficult days, and setbacks, if you stick with it over time, it will allow you to grow in multiple ways. Whether your goal is to acquire a new set of skills or compete, these benefits are transferable to many aspects of life. They help build personal resilience in the face of challenges while providing you with additional tools and an advantage to achieve success.
Amazing gym! Clean, spacious and a very welcoming team. Highly recommended!
I love practicing Muay Thai at Atheneum! The coaches are amazing and the atmosphere is great!
We visited during their first youth invitational, and the tournament was wonderfully run. After we were invited to attend their kids classes. Wow! They are run very well. Coach Sikai is great at controlling the room in a fun way. The class is fast paced and the kids seem to have a great time. Besides Coach Sikai, there were two additional youth coaches so the ratios were excellent of kids to coaches (about 8/3 when we visited). I would definitely recommend this gym!
Amazing environment! Great place to learn for beginners, and train if you are advanced! Amazing staff, awesome experience all around!
Great place to train Muay Thai or Jiu Jitsu. Great atmosphere and community. Overall great.
Atheneum has been an amazing place for our kids to learn Jiu-Jitsu. The coaches are very knowledgeable and encouraging. Our kids are always so excited for class! Highly recommend.
Highly recommend this gym to everyone! The atmosphere is welcoming with no egos. The instructors are very knowledgeable, passionate about teaching, and explain key details clearly. I noticed right away how some of the newer students knew an incredible amount for training under a year.
If you’re looking for a jujutsu, Mui Thai gym in the western suburbs this is a place to go! They have a great story and excellent community of people all striving for the same purpose. To better be equipped in self-defense and in life.
Athenium was an amazing experience for my kids. Sikai and his team are wonderful to work with.
Love the classes here! Knowledgeable instruction from great coaches in a friendly, clean environment. Students also receive the benefit of quality connections throughout the bjj community, resulting in fun drop ins and seminars from renowned instructors.
They were great with teaching my kid with zero experience. They have inclusive environment. Fun but teach responsibility. Teachers are skilled and knowledgeable. Fellow students are enthusiastic and kind.
My 6 year old trained here for a few months before the scheduling got a bit challenging for us as he started having more activities. Sikai was very patient and fun with the kids. My boy definitely was getting stronger while having fun. Highly recommend.
Excellent atmosphere for learning bjj under attentive and detailed instruction. This place also has wonderful and friendly students, teachers, and owners. They also have stylish affordable gear (but that last one is just a nice to have). Come out to train with them whenever you can!
Great place, great vibe! super clean, high level instructors! kids and adults classes! if you like competition or you want to do jiu jitsu as a hobby, both are covered there! Highly recommended
My son is having a great experience at Antheneum! He’s been wrestling for two years and this summer added training at Antheneum. We can already see an improvement in his skills, but the best part is how much he enjoys the classes. Not only do they keep him active this summer, they keep him mentally happy. He says it’s the best part of his day and he calls Antheneum his happy place. The camaraderie and environment among the athletes and coaches is so positive! The owner personally checks in. I’m grateful my son is having such a wonderful time. Thank you!
Sikai (owner and head coach) is an amazing human. He’s cultivated an inviting and empowering culture here. 10/10 knowledge for Brazilian jiu jitsu and Muay Thai. Would definitely recommend this gym if you’re in the area.
Atheneum is amazing! I’m new to martial arts and everyone was so welcoming and willing to help me learn. Sikai, the owner and an instructor, is so knowledgeable and an incredible teacher. He breaks everything down so it’s easy to understand and guides you through the whole process, helping you make adjustments as you practice the moves. Other people in the class who have been training for longer also give me tips on how to improve. Amazing community, gym, and instructors! Highly recommend!
Dropped in for a leg lock seminar - I found it hugely informative. Atheneun is a positive environment with considerate training partners who are all focused on collectively improving. P.s. These mats STAY clean. It is probably the most hygenic gym I have been to.
Amazing place and great people every time is a good time!
Excellent studio. Great coach and students
Great place to train for any skill level
It's an excellent gym in Medina taught by amazing instructors and a non intimidating environment too!
Awesome academy. Super chill, welcoming environment. Highly reccomend to anyone in the area looking to get into Jiu Jitsu or for experienced grapplers looking for a fresh spot to train at.
Highly recommend if you are looking to get into Jiu jitsu. The culture and environment are top notch. Head instructor truly cares about the people and sport. 10/10.
Good spot
I had a great first experience here! The instructor and the other participants were extremely welcoming and easy to work with. The space is very clean and honestly really cool - all around a really good vibe.
Great space, Sikai is a brilliant instructor and he knows how to teach. Great workout too !
Great people and great classes
Everyone was very welcoming and fun to train with.
A very nice studio, very clean mats and comfy with a couple of couches and xbox. Everyone is friendly and are encouraging. The aesthetic of the gym is nice with a nice painted mural and blue matted walls and floor. The shirts they sell also have good designs.
I stopped in to train, was immediately welcomed. One of the best and friendliest schools I have trained at. The mats are amazing. Facility is very nice and clean. This is the gym to train at.
This place is great the people there are great and they are really nice. Also the coach’s there are nice
I highly recommend Atheneum Martial Arts. People of all ages, backgrounds, and martial arts experience (whether beginner or expert level) are welcome here. Sikai and all of the instructors at Antheneum are excellent instructors, welcoming, and are very patient with their students. They are always more than willing to take the time to break things down and provide positive feedback to their students. I cannot recommend them enough. If you are interested in martial arts, Antheneum is definitely the place to be and worth checking out.
Love the practice. Great gym and people
Atheneum is a gym I have recommended to several friends of mine already. This is a spot you can find your style at while learning solid fundamentals across multiple martial art disciplines all while becoming part of a community!
Great gym and an awesome group of people. Everyone at Atheneum is super welcoming, open to all skill levels and ages. Learning and sparring here is a highlight of my week.
I've seen many gyms that can make new comers maybe feel a little intimidated, even just to walk in. This gym is no where near like those. The owner, Sikai, has taken all his experience from visiting and training at numerous facilities across the country to bring together the best aspects from each. This has created, not only a clean, safe, and welcoming space for both new and veterans athletes, but also a fun, focused and personalized environment to grow as a martial artist.
We LOVE Atheneum studio! Our 3 younger boys are in little lions and we’re going to sign them up for kids striking as well! They love the instructor to student ratio. They like how the instructors are hands on and able to work with them and see where they excel and where they need improvement. Our older son and hubby gets a great work out in the adult classes. We appreciate Sikai and his team! They are so dedicated to the sport, respectful, friendly, supportive and fun! Our boys leave Atheneum with a great body work out, discipline, confidence with self-defense skills.
Awesome women’s program! If you are ever wanting to learn self-defense, especially going to college, please look at this place it’s fun!
Our son loves going to the youth class and has really learned a lot. They get a lot of attention as the student to instructor ratio is really good!
Great gym, best trainers and friendly community. Anyone would find their place here.
Atheneum has a welcoming environment with a great community. There’s a variety of instructors teaching both striking and grappling.
This is a wonderful place with great vibes. The coaches are really kind and helpful I learned a lot and recommend it to anyone who wants to learn some self-defense.
They've been great! My kid absolutely loves it.
This is a great place for learning jiu jitsu. Our 7 year old is attending classes here and the coaches are very patient with the younger groups but still focused enough to keep the kids on track. They are always encouraging the kids and give great advice to the parents.
Amazing team always there to help you get better
Clean, well-run space to learn how to defend yourself and compete in martial arts. Programs for all ages and skill levels. Strong, regular crew of training partners. Great community.
It’s great to see a group of dedicated martial arts specialists working on creating an environment of learning, growth, development and pure fun! I highly recommend!!!
I have been going to this gym for 6 months now. I have watched it grow from a new operation to a blossoming business. I must say, this is well deserved. I do private lessons as Athenaeum and I have never been disappointed. Well worth the money. The knowledge these coaches bring to the lessons makes me excited to show up and learn every day.
Super high level training meets family friendly atmosphere. Perfect place if you’re looking to get some high level training in while also having a great place to introduce your kids to the lovely world of martial arts.
Great group of trainers who all have a strong passion for the sport! There’s an easy class schedule to accommodate your own work life schedule. Lots of fun!
Sikai and his coaches at Atheneum do a great job with the kids. They make it fun while teaching important skills and keep the kids motivated. He clearly enjoys seeing kids progress and learn
Great place for beginners to the sport. Friendly but competitive environment, life changing lessons and overall a fun place to start learning martial arts
Atheneum is a great place to train, very beginner friendly. Sikai is a student of the game, constantly training to learn new things and bring them to the team.
Excellent trainers and facility. They have good knowledge and are professionals. Safe environment and they teach the arts with care and respect while also having great fun. My son Kavin loves to go there every week.
Atheneum is an absolute gem for martial arts enthusiasts and anyone looking to dive into the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Few things i liked about this place - 1) the coaches ( sikai and steven) are patient, approachable, and genuinely invested in the progress of each student. 2) a well-rounded curriculum that ensures continuous growth and improvement. 3) well-maintained and equipped with all the necessary amenities.
Great coaches, clean and organized facility, amazing work with kids.
My son absolutely loves training at Atheneum. The atmosphere is awesome and the coaches are really welcoming. I’d recommend the gym to anyone looking for somewhere to train.
Genuinely good people and a nice environment compared to other places I’ve been - overall solid gym.
Came in for the 6-week challenge and now I’ve been here for 4 months. I found a great atmosphere in Athenuem. The owners and instructors do a great job at working through moves with you and never hesitate to give feedback, criticism, praise, or extra tips outside of class. The camaraderie within the whole building is awesome as well. Cannot recommend more.
Very beginner friendly. The instructors were very respectful and attentive! Highly recommend.
Great coaching and a really fun time!
We signed our kids up a little over a month ago. The coaches are fantastic, make it fun and are highly knowledgeable. Sikai, the owner, communicates extremely well. It is a family atmosphere. I highly recommend.
Awesome place with awesome people. Saw an ad for the 6 week training and decided to give it a try. I have no experience in Muay Thai or Jiu Jitsu, and the coaches and the team were extremely welcoming to everyone there. I was a little nervous about trying something new, but you could really tell that everyone there wanted everyone to grow and succeed. I have worked mostly with Sikai and Malik and they are two incredible coaches, they are very patient and super knowledgeable. They know how to challenge and motivate you to keep learning. I have felt quite a bit of improvement over the 6 weeks and plan to continue going. Very glad I made the decision to start going here. I have had a lot of fun and also learned so much in a short period of time. Would highly recommended going here if you have any interest in trying martial arts.
I’ve been involved with martial arts for as long as I can remember. At first I didn’t really take it that seriously, especially with regards to the actual technique and skill that came with doing the art. However, through lots of rigorous training and dedication, I began to understand this. At Atheneum, this is taught day after day. Through a variety of skilled instructors, each with different skill sets and specialties, students thrive and learn everything there is to know about a wide range of arts. Would 10/10 recommend.
Survive or die
The best martial arts academy, very welcoming and knowledgeable members
I've only been going here about 2 weeks now and I really enjoy it, I came in not knowing anything and they treated me as an equal. They didn't make me feel inadequate or stupid or anything like that for not knowing anything. They took my mistakes as a learning opportunity and to help me better myself! They're real beginner friendly and make you feel welcome. Come here if you want a good solid place to learn real martial arts with knowledgeable, friendly, and caring instructors don't come if you don't want to get sweaty.
Four sessions in and have made incredible progress. Great training at Atheneum
Great coaches and atmosphere, I did the Muay Thai private sessions and would recommend everyone to do it!
From the instructors to the classmates, I couldn’t be more proud to call them my family! A safe place for you to get your foot into the door and grow like never before. Atheneum martial arts is the right place for me!
Came across an ad for a 6 week course thingy, I decided to try it out as it was better than staying home on my phone doing nothing. It was very nerve wrecking at first but Sikai and the other instructors/students were cool and patient with beginners. It was humbling to learn how to take a hit to the body and fun to throw hits back, the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was fun too as it was just learning to pin people and get out of pins. Striking/Muy Thai is the more “scary” part of it if you’ve never been in a fight in your life before like I have but come out learning a thing or two. The occasional Yoga was pretty cool too even thought it was just for a certain demographic, still interesting though. All around a good experience in my opinion, I recommend it to anyone who wants to try that has the time!
Couldn’t recommend it more, the environment is all about growth. The instructors want to see you succeed, while at the same time creating good opportunities for a person to experience over coming some kind of adversity! I love the amount of young guys who love to get after it!
I wholeheartedly recommend Atheneum to anyone interested in learning jiu-jitsu. The combination of exceptional instructors, a welcoming community, and a well-equipped facility make it an outstanding choice. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced practitioner, this gym will undoubtedly exceed your expectations. Joining this gym has been one of the best decisions I have made, and I am grateful for the opportunity to train at such a remarkable place.
Great place, immaculate vibes, and cool people. It has been a ton of fun to train here for a couple of months now and see myself and others improve in martial arts. I think that my favorite part of the gym is how everyone is welcomed no matter their skill level or background!
Love it there! Everyone treats you like family and with respect 🫡
My guy, Malik, introduced me to this Martial Arts Gym and I absolutely love training at Atheneum! The setup is top-notch, and I always get in some solid work. The combination of Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu has really helped me improve my martial arts skills. The trainers/coaches here are incredibly experienced, and their knowledge and expertise quickly rub off in a positive way. Highly recommend this gym for anyone looking to level up their martial arts game
Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. A great place to start your Jiu Jitsu journey!
Amazing gym and great for beginners. Sikai runs a fantastic operation and I highly recommend Atheneum to anyone looking to break the ice and get into Mixed Martial Arts!
Great facility clean and professional. I had the honor to visit as a guest instructor and loved the vibe Sikai, Sean, and the team have built in such a short time. Using Jiu Jitsu as a vehicle for self improvement and community is a beautiful vision and I will definitely return whenever I'm in Minnesota
Never tried jujitsu before summer of 2023. Dad constantly reminded me of his great experiences so when i saw an instagram ad for Atheneum Martial Arts, i decided id give it a whirl during the extra free time I had in this summer. Great decision and investment of time and energy. Each visit is a workout, and i leave each visit knowing something new about martial arts/striking. Talking about it to my friends is only a minor benefit compared to everything else it offers. If you're debating trying out Atheneum martial arts, no matter the skill level (even brand new), you'll find a comfortable challenge at Atheneum martial arts. I strongly recommend this place to newbies, and experienced martial artists alike. I had a wonderful time in just 4 weeks of 10 sessions! Im seeking martial arts at my new city i plan to move to in the coming weeks
Can’t give enough praise to this place! Every week I look forward to walking into this beautiful studio to receive excellent instruction alongside a diverse, uplifting community. Very easy to just drop in and give it a try.
I had never done Jiu Jitsu before joining Atheneum, or any combat sport for that matter. After training at Atheneum for just over a month, I wished that I had begun earlier. Sikai is one of the most patient and knowledgeable coaches that I’ve ever trained with. He welcomes and quickly develops newer students while still finding time to motivate and challenge more experienced members. Along with the help of his younger brother Steven (who is also an incredible martial artist), Sikai has created a space where anybody that is willing to humble themselves and embrace the difficulty of learning a new craft is welcomed with open arms. Every gym should strive to replicate the culture he and others have established at Atheneum. If you are on the fence about beginning martial arts, I highly encourage you to jump right in. I did, and I believe I am more well rounded person for doing so. Hands down the highlight of my Summer.
Great coaches and a very great place to start for beginner
I had an incredible 3-week experience at Atheneum Martial Arts! It was an excellent introduction to martial arts for me, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The instructors, especially Sikai who I worked with closely, were enthusiastic educators who were supportive and ensured everyone got the moves right, according to their individual capacity. The fellow students were friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. It was an amazing experience and I’m excited to continue training at Atheneum Martial Arts.
Clean mats, clean facilities, and top tier instructors. In this gym, it truly doesn't matter how good you currently are, only how great you are willing to be. I started a month ago as a complete beginner, and now I'm (still) a beginner with an entire gym behind me supporting my improvement every time I enter the mats. Probably the best decision I've ever made.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Atheneum Martial Arts while in town and was thoroughly impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and the quality facilities. From the moment I walked through the door, I was greeted with warm smiles and genuine enthusiasm from both the instructors and fellow students. The sense of community was palpable, making it easy for me to feel comfortable and welcome as a visitor. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area or if you're looking for a place to start training.
They’ve got a great energy and you know the coaches love what they’re doing. Lots of expert coaches that come in regularly and a super fun group
This is a great spot to start learning BJJ. They make me feel comfortable while being out of my comfort zone. I can be a little anxious going in but feel better and better everytime I am finished with a practice. Great people, great place, and great lessons!
I’ve been to a couple gyms so far in my jiu jitsu journey and I have to say that Atheneum Martial Arts is by far the cleanest ! Also, Sikai is an amazing teacher and he really breaks down the technique to explain it. This is amazing as I am a white belt so I need all the explaining I can get. Overall this gym is clean, very friendly, beginner friendly, and last but certainly not least is the great vibes that Sikai and his team bring to every practice !
