Great Gym! Attended two different classes during my visit to AK ( gi and no gi). I was impressed by the clean facility and quality instruction. Ryder (the owner & head instructor)broke down complex movements into simple-to-understand concepts during the technical portion of class. Training partners were friendly and skilled. Overall a great place to train in AK.

The gym was nice and clean with lots of mat space. The staff were welcoming and friendly on my drop in visit. The coach was knowledgeable with a good sense of humour, which always makes training fun. Everyone I rolled with was friendly and respectful. I definitely recommend training here if you're looking for a good gym and will be coming back the next time I'm up this way. Oss! 🤙

Came in and tried their free trial class and immediately was impressed with their customer service and the gym atmosphere. Gym cleanliness is very important to me, and this is by far the cleaness BJJ/MMA gym I've ever been to. What I wasn't expecting is that they have hospital grade air purifiers all over the academy, the exact same ones hospitals and clinics used during the pandemic scare. They have them in every corner of the gym. I'm new to BJJ and MMA but I've done a lot of research and know a lot of people in the community, and their curriculum is top-notch. Their moves of the week are planned out, and you can view it on their website if you forgot something or can't take notes, this is especially nice for beginners like me. I also tried their Cardio Kickboxing and Muay Thai classes...what a workout and again the instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful, the same as the BJJ instructors. To top it off, ABJJ has an incredibly full schedule with over 50 classes a week (double what any other school offers) which is really important to me as I have a very busy schedule.

If you ever wanted to start training martial arts in a welcoming and safe environment then you need ABJJ. I started with very little experience in combat sports/martial arts and was quite apprehensive when I stepped through the door but quickly realized I had no reason for feeling this way because the staff, instructors and students were all very welcoming. ABJJ has a culture of respect and, a family oriented approach to martial arts that is palatable for the uninitiated and the experienced fighter alike.

The Anchorage Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gym is the best gym for training! They have skilled professional coaches that work well with all the students. All the staff at ABJJ are so friendly and amazing! I am thoroughly impressed with the cleanliness of this gym. The ABJJ Family is a group of people who are just that, Family! Love this gym!

I am absolutely thrilled with my experiences at ABJJ - truly a phenomenal gym! It was apparent right away to our family this isn't just any gym; it's a community. Professor Ryder, Christine, Coach Shane, Coach Derek and all the staff we have met and learned from are professional, kind and welcoming! It’s also evident they take pride in maintaining a pristine space, not your typical gym environment. The cleanliness and high-end HEPA air purifiers are a testament they understand that cleanliness is important if you want to be able stay healthy and train regularly. The HIIT, Muay Thai, and Kick Boxing classes are my personal favorites. Each class is not only an incredible workout but an educational experience where you learn proper techniques—all while having a blast (and geared towards all ages and fitness levels)!

I made so many mistakes with ABJJ.. I really didn’t understand BJJ… I’ve been away from bjj over 5 years and this will be my home.. I have been watching professor Ryder for so many years and always wanted to work with him… the man called me!! He actually returned my call!!! I want to apologize to everyone at ABJJ… they were trying to help, but I was immature back then, but now subhanallah I’m ready to return to action inshallah… My Allah (god) guide me to open up, listen and learn.. this is only the beginning!!! Thank you ABJJ!! My new home and my new brothers and sisters… 🤲🏾 As salaam alaykum!! Time to work 🤲🏾

I have trained at ABJJ for a year a half and love it. The community has been very welcoming. They have a all women’s class that is very helpful to get to know the girls in the gym and to grow friendships. It’s the best place to work on new moves! I highly recommend this gym!

I can't say enough positive things about the staff at this gym. Ryder and his team welcomed my son in after an encounter with a bully at school and have had an enormous impact on his life in the 3 months that he's been coming here. Beyond the 10 pounds of muscle and self-defense skills that he's gained, he also now exudes confidence and pride. It's truly amazing! Thank you all soo much!

I call ABJJ my home away from home, if I am in Anchorage this is where I go, professional instruction at competitive level. Their Black belts will give you a good and complete work out and will ensure that you learn technique the right way. The environment is awesome and full of great people. If you are looking for great Jiu-Jitsu (not good Jiu-Jitsu but great) make sure you stop by.

Killer gym I’ve had the privilege of training with. It is filled with people who love and respect the martial art. Great instruction from coaches, and I’ve learned just as much from tips happily provided by experienced students. Fosters a community of humility, respect, and drive. I will miss it when I move.

Why have you not enrolled yet! Once signed up you'll know you made the right choice in Jujitsu options. The staff is so welcoming and they're always smiling?? (What's a bad day? 🤷🏽‍♀️ Never heard of em) Their instructors are determined to make everyone feel included, while also making sure no one is slipping behind in training. Don't get me started with discipline, acting out.. get ready to pay for it. Talking when you should be learning.. get ready to pay for it. Being rude or even getting caught rolling your eyes at mom/dad.. GET. READY. TO. PAY. FOR. IT. Like I said before. Why haven't you enrolled yet ?

ABJJ was an extremely welcoming and spacious experience!!! Coach Ryder and staff were very helpful and happy to spread the knowledge and community of BJJ!! I'm somewhat experienced in bjj and went for there FREE first day trial. Being completely honest with no bias, I had an awesome time and the coaches made sure to push that. "If your not having fun then you're not doing Jiu-jitsu" literally was a phrase that stuck out to me during class. I'm only here in Anchorage for a short stint but I'll be doing their weekly classes and rolls there until we leave!! High level training and knowledge, along with a welcoming environment, you can't ask for more. I highly recommend ABJJ, seriously!!

I love ABJJ. I first had interactions with this crew when I signed up for my very first jujitsu tournament. I was very new to the scene and had no real direction on how to get the registration process completed and or what to expect moving forward. Coach Ryder and his team at ABJJ made themselves completely available to me even after hours using their personal numbers to help get me squared away. Every time I walk into the reception area I am met by a friendly person who despite not knowing me, treats me as if we’ve been friends for years. All the staff are very knowledgeable and extremely friendly. I am very happy to be part of the ABJJ Family. 10/10 would recommend that you join the family!

This is an awesome school! I’m an old hobbyist, I travel for work and have had the chance to catch a class in a dozen schools internationally and over a dozen schools in the U.S. Stayed in Anchorage on vacation got to try out this school. This school is one of the best I’ve ever seen. The instructors are high level, the facility is great, the atmosphere is cooperative without knuckleheads and egos. As an old guy I would recommend this school to anyone regardless of age or sex.

I've been going to ABJJ for about a month and it's definitely a fantastic gym. I used to train mma and loved it, and tried out a few different gyms before settling on this one. It's a nice and clean facility, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and it's a great place to be at overall. If you're thinking about starting classes and haven't made the jump yet, stop by and try a couple of classes! The other practitioners are friendly to new people and will take the time to help you out if there's something you're confused about. I don't have anything negative to say, ABJJ is great and definitely worth checking out!

Great instruction, cleanest gym ever, dramatic improvements in strength and functional movement! The instructors and staff are amazing! Every one of them is a skilled teacher that takes time to give personal feedback even if you're a clueless beginner like myself. The facility is super clean and they are extra diligent about disinfecting between every class. My fitness has improved significantly, I have gained about 6 lbs of muscle in 4 months and just easily beat my neighbor in an arm wrestle this morning (she won the last match we had in July).💪🏽☺

They are complying to state regulations and it is by far the cleanest gym I've ever been in! They sanitizing the mats between every class. Overall, Anchorage BJJ is definitely the best martial arts academy in Alaska. Ryder and all of his instructors create a great atmosphere for learning, training preparation for competition. I have trained at many very high level schools across the country and this school is among the best. The entire family here at the academy are very friendly and welcoming; nobody is out to hurt anyone here and it is a very non intimidating environment. So no matter if your goals are to become a world champion, or just for you or your children to develop confidence and character while learning to defend yourselves, Anchorage BJJ is the place to go!

I originally started training at ABJJ years ago after training at a couple other gyms. I was immediately impressed with the instructors and humility I discovered throughout the gym. After reluctantly stepping away from training when I had children, my oldest son is now five years old and as we are homeschooling I’m excited for him to learn to be part of a team, as well as be challenged individually. I’m confident the work ethic and humility he will glean from the family at ABJJ will be lessons he holds on to for many years to come. I’m thankful for the many kids classes offered which creates a more flexible week for our lifestyle, as well as the opportunity for my son to be exposed to several different disciplines (BJJ, Boxing, etc) on the same gym membership.

Both of our kids attend class here, it’s been an awesome experience and my husband and I both enjoy watching them develop their skills every week. The instructors are awesome with kids and hold them to high standards, requiring them to pay attention through class during instruction, then giving them instruction while they practice skills with the other kids. Our first time walking in we were greeted with a warm welcome. The staff was very friendly and unintimidating. She explained everything in detail and didn't pressure us all all to join. By the second class our kids names were already memorized among the already large group of 30 kids. The facility is well sized and clean with seating for plenty spectators. Pricing is very competitive and the staff is professional and knowledgable. They do active duty military and first responder discounts.

There are very few people who can teach as well as they can do. Professor Ryder is one of those people. I have been fortunate enough to train all over the world, and I can honestly say that this is a WORLD CLASS gym. ABJJ offers tons of classes all day everyday to fit everyone’s busy schedule, and and every session is filled with a wealth of knowledge from a multitude of practitioners and coaches (the gym has 4 active black belts which is amazing). The guys and girls at ABJJ train hard and spar often, but they are also some of the friendliest people you will meet, all eager to help and learn. But don’t take my word for it- try out a free class and see what I’m talking about.

ABJJ is a great gym at an excellent value. I’ve personally trained here 5 years and my kids have for over a year. We all love the coaches, team, wisdom and skills we’ve gained from being a part of ABJJ. Thanks for all you do guys!

I have been training here for a few years now and would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. Both the Bjj and Mma programs have an extremely welcoming atmosphere encouraging people of all levels and ages . Whether you’re looking looking to train for fun, learn self defense or even compete you’ll feel right at home with this gym.

Simply the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instruction in the state. The coaches are always happy to see you, and genuinely care about your progression. The proof is in our tournament results not only in Alaska, but all over the world.

Top notch instruction and a team atmosphere that can't be beat. Whether you're looking to be a serious MMA competitor or just plan on using BJJ as a hobby to get/keep in shape, there's a place on the mats for everyone.

When I first walked in to sign my son up, the first thing I noticed was the lack of “gym smell”. It’s so clean in there! My five year old is extremely hyper and has the attention span of a hiccup - Ryder is sooooo amazing and patient with him. My child responds very well to him, even when in trouble. Love this place, and so does my son!

This is one of the best groups of people I’ve ever been around. Such a great atmosphere, and a great place to get into shape. I’ve lost 60+ lbs since starting and kept it off. You won’t regret trying your first free class!

I have been with professors Ryder Justin Todd and Brandon since the beginning. I remember training my first day.. the day we got our first mats. These guys are the most technical jiu jitsu players and love this martial art. ABJJ is by far one of the best places to train.. I highly respect these guys, not only on the mat but in life as well. After a significant injury, professor Ryder helped me get back on the Mat.. great atmosphere and great training ! Book a class and get in the game! 5 Star all the way!

Absolutely love this place -- ABJJ creates pure jiu-jitsu beasts and somehow manages to make everyone feel included and welcome at the same time. I first met Ryder about 5 years ago when I came through and rolled for one night before leaving to college. Four years later when I moved back to Alaska, I immediately messaged Ryder and he welcomed me into the ABJJ family with open arms. Two months later I dislocated my shoulder rock-climbing and needed surgery (w/ 4-6 mo anticipated recovery). Instead of saying "see ya," Ryder encouraged me to keep coming to class and participating, and made sure to consistently check in with me throughout the entire process. This really stood out to me, and for the last year, ABJJ has become my second home. Highly recommend that anyone looking for a place to train should come check it out! You will not be disappointed.

The BIGGEST school in the state because it's the BEST school in the state. Friendly, welcoming atmosphere for all ages, all levels. Alaska's lucky to have ABJJ!

ABJJ has an excellent kid's program. My son (5) loves it! He has been working toward a new belt. I like that he is learning delayed gratification and working toward long term goals. He is able to listen quietly and follow multi-step directions; a huge improvement from when we started!

Great place to learn BJJ, knowledgeable instructors, friendly environment for the whole family, and the kids class is an excellent way to keep your children active during the long Winter.

I've trained at ABJJ off and on for about 7 years, and I love it. A clean and and professional atmosphere, with an army-like comradery. I had no martial-arts experience before joining, and wasn't very athletic, but this gym has pushed and changed me, all while teaching me very useful skills. I highly recommend this gym to anyone interested in BJJ/MMA/Kickboxing or just fitness, no matter your age/ability.

What can be said about a place that accepts everyone and molds them into an iron octopus. Absolutely love this place. Family friendly, with practitioners who genuinely want to help you get better. It's an all in one - workout, mental focus and a social gathering of like-minded people. I wish I could live here.

This is a rare place where you can learn a genuine martial art. ABJJ provides a strong, structured, and successful program to teach people of all levels and ages proper self-defense based martial arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and competitive Mixed Martial Arts. ABJJ provides a strong, community driven martial arts center for Alaska that continuously ranks nationally in a variety of competitions. ABJJ values discipline, respect, humility, and community, and will forever be a place I recommend to men, women, and children of all ages!
