I'm not in the habbit of leaving reviews but I just had to write one for this club. It's been a year since I joined Amber Valley Jiu Jitsu and what a year it's been - so glad I joined. For context I'm 39 and had done martial arts in my 20s but then life / kids etc. turned me into a couch potato. I wanted to get back in shape but find gyms or running boring. Thought I'd give this a go and now I'm obsessed with it - BJJ is really good fun. The teacher is excellent and leads by example which I really like. The group itself are really friendly and welcoming, and I have made some good friends which is something that I hadn't realised I needed at this stage in my life but it has been really nice. Even though it is great fun, Brazillian Jiu Jitsu itself is a very practical martial art and if self defence is what you want then I think BJJ should be at the top of your list. Anyway - 5 stars out of 5 - Hopefully see you on the mat!
Posted 2 years agoI've been training at Amber Valley for 2 years, and I can't recommend it enough. I joined with minimal martial arts experience, and now I'm looking to compete which is a testament to Dave and the team at Amber Valley. The group of people is incredible, and friendly, with a great atmosphere, coupled with world-class tuition from a decorated black belt. Dave leads with humility, fun and an ethos to provide Jiu-Jitsu for all.
Posted 2 years agoI started my BJJ journey here when the club first formed. I had no previous experience of any forms of martial arts so I was very nervous and really not sure what to expect, I went along anyway and I have never regretted that decision. All the students at Amber Valley are friendly and welcoming. They are focused on helping each other grow and develop on and off the mats. Dave the instructor is an absolute legend. He has all the time in the world for his students and has built an amazing club. If you are thinking of starting your own BJJ journey or perhaps you are looking for a new club, I would recommended coming down and giving it a try, take it from me you will never look back. Hopefully we will see you on the mats 🙇
Posted 3 years agoBeen coming for a few months now, have to say one of the best decisions I've made. Was a complete newbie to martial arts (never done something like this before) and so was a little hesitatant, however, from the very first session was I welcomed in with open arms and started getting to know guys. There is a family feel at the school with everyone looking out for each other. Lots of instruction from Dave and then ample time of putting those skills to use with sparing/rolling in a controlled and safe environment. Everyone involved is super helpful, respectful, eager to learn and will go qg your speed- so go toe to toe if that's what you want or take a bit off ots up to you. Dave has created a fantastic school, would recommend to everyone - whether experienced or not - Only regret is that I did not join sooner!
Posted 3 years agoGreat technique taught by a decorated global Competition hardened BJJ Gracie qualified BlackBelt. Instruction is very clear with added tried and tested infections. The group has a respectful atmosphere with no ego led behaviour. It’s by far the best BJJ if not martial arts club I’ve experienced and I’ve been to many, trying to find an instructor like this and like minded club members like these.
