Really friendly and supportive coaches and students. High skill level and great atmosphere. I visited for a class when I was on holiday in New York, and it was definitely one of my highlights. Can really recommend training here!
Sonny Mayo is an excellent instructor! Sonny traveled to our school, Livermore Martial Arts Academy in Livermore California to conduct a half day class in tactical knife fighting. I was very impressed with amount of information and drills we were able to cover in a half a day. I can't wait until the next seminar!
Attended one of their tactical knife training seminars. Learned so much!
The people and the atmosphere are so inviting As soon as you walk in the door you're greeted as part of the ever growing family And the lessons you learn here, you can take them with you forever One of the best places in New York if you ask me 5 out of 5
Sensei Sonny Mayo is a phenomenal teacher, his direct fundamentally based approach is effective and street applicable, coupled with a great facility and learning environment it's a experience I highly recommend. 👍🏾👍🏾
Sensei Mayo is one of the best martial arts instructors I have had the pleasure to train under. His humble and professional attitude help his students cultivate the knowledge they take in. The curriculum is concise and practical. Sensei Mayo teaches in a coherent progression. Students, regardless of their goals, ability, or background are able to master the techniques very quickly. One of the courses I would recommend taking is the Stay In The Fight class. This class can be an eye-opening experience for you, especially if you don't train that often. Many of us imagine various situations and envision our responses to those situations when we're confronted with one problem or another. This class allows one to actually an opportunity to be confront a senerio with the stress and uncertainty of a simulated encounter. I would highly recommend anyone to train with Sensei Mayo. Over a several month period, I have gotten to know him and his instructors. They are professional and develop a personal connection to students. Please take the time to train with them. You won't regret it.
I have take a instructor course through the docs pares system , sense I Sonny Mayo is a great teacher's teacher. My goal is to become docs pares instructor, and sense I Mayo is helping to make that happen I'm pleased.
What a great place! Large training facility with all the equipment you need. Sensei Sonny is an expert in escrima and a wonderful teacher. He is organized, systematic and methodical in his teaching; he takes you through a series of drills that build upon one another and can be applied in various ways that can adjust the level of the activity from beginner through advanced. He is a wealth of knowledge and skill but what makes him so great is that he is also quite humble and humorous. He's a character! He keeps it light and funny while also doing serious training. He welcomes you in like it is home and introduces you to his family. And you see this in the same wonderful qualities of his students who partake in and support during the seminars. I am already using his instruction with some of my advanced students on stick and knife drills. As he says says, "drills equals skills!". Highly recommend Sensei Sonny and am looking forward to the next instructors seminar!
Sensei Sonny is very knowledgeable in what he teaches and how he teaches, from the moment you walk in the dojo you can feel a positive energy, not only will you learn with him you will have a great time as well, weather you have previously trained or a first time student you will feel comfortable there, either him or a member of his staff is always at heand to answer questions or give instructions. I highly recommend anyone to attend at least one of his classes.
I have been a friend of Sonny Mayo for over 10 years. I first met him at a Police Show in NYC at the Jacob Javits Center. He invited me to his school where we shared thoughts and ideas to enhance each others training. I do not have the skill , knowledge and ability that Guro Mayo has and am amazed at the speed and accuracy of his knife and stick training. I follow him very closely and believe in much of what he does. If you have the opportunity to take a class or seminar or become one of his students, you will severely enhance your training....
