My son absolutely loves coming here! He’s been learning so much and it’s definitely helped a lot with his discipline, manners, and confidence. I’m really proud of him and the coaches are really helpful and nice, I definitely recommend this place!
My daughter has been attending Alamo Ranch Martial Arts since September, and I can’t say enough great things about the impact they’ve had on her. The instructors are not only skilled but also incredibly supportive and encouraging. They’ve helped her build confidence, come out of her shell, and develop the tools to handle challenges both in and out of the studio. It’s amazing to see her grow stronger—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too. If you’re looking for a place that truly invests in their students’ personal growth, this is it. Highly recommend!
This is the best place the owner/Coach is very friendly and his technique is very easygoing my daughter loves to go there
Loving our time at Alamo Ranch Martial Arts. Coaches are very involved and my son is loving every day so far!
The program is very good especially with discipline, and manners. Our family has been truly blessed to found a program like this. Wish the hours was little more convenient other than that great program.. we thank you coach
My son is 7 years old ans started here with the $20 special for 2 weeks. He cried on the first day. He wasn't used the environment at all. Now he goes 4x a week and is excited to go to classes every single time. He's learned to adust to new environments, self-defense and made new friends along the way.
We are new to the area and wanted to find activities for our children. We absolutely love it, and our children are really excited about learning new skills.
My husband and son have been training at Alamo Ranch Martial Arts (RoundHouse) for about 6 months. They really enjoy it. Our son (13) has a gtube and is autistic; Coach G had no issues with him training here. We had a really hard time finding a place that would let him train despite having authorization from two doctors saying it was fine. Coach G and Coach Mike are fantastic with the kids. They hold them accountable, when necessary, praise the heck out of them and constantly challenge them to be better, both on the mat and in their personal lives. Respect is a very big part of their program. I really appreciate whole person approach to their program. If you’re looking for somewhere to train in martial arts, Alamo Ranch Martial Arts is a fantastic place for all ages.
Alamo Ranch Martial Arts is a program we choose specifically for our 4 year old son. The instructors understand their students’ developmental needs and created a program that emphasizes fun and safety. Additionally, each session has shown parental involvement from the crowd and the parental support we exhibit for each student on the mat proves to be just as important to ensure each child's experience is positive and enriching. The program has helped boost our son’s confidence, self- discipline, and respect. Our son enjoys getting on the mat and I’m confident your child will too!
My sons focus, discipline, and attention to detail has improved this means a lot to us with his ADHD. The instructors really take time out to ensure the kids are learning and gaining from this experience!
From our experience so far this is a great martial arts school for young kids. It’s a no nonsense class that teach the fundamentals of getting away and/or fighting back, if they can’t run, from anyone trying to hurt or take them. They also teach fundamental life values of education, respect, responsibility, and doing their part to help their parents with their own routine. We plan on staying with this school for the foreseeable future and can’t wait until our young daughter has the ability to truly defend herself against any predators in this very worrisome world we find ourselves in. Thanks Alamo Ranch Martial Arts for furthering our cause to protect our children and instilling the kind of values every parent should want in their children.
My son has had a great time doing martial arts for the first time. He has no experience at all, and both teachers have been so encouraging and helpful to help him improve everyday he is there. Highly recommend!
We tried several dojos with our son. But they all felt overcrowded and over and understaffed. We love Alamo Ranch. They mix fun, discipline, and life skills into every class. And the self-confidence we see in our boy is priceless. Definitely recommend.
I loved that we were able to do a 2 week trial before signing up. My boys have been attending for 7 weeks and love it.
This place is the real deal. We have tried a lot of other activities in the area- dance, swimming, ect. as well as other martial arts locations and nothing compares to the quality of training she gets here. This is the first time my daughter is begging me to take her to class and not the other way around. Highly recommend, this place is awesome.
Started both our kids about a month ago and cannot believe the progress they’ve made not only in class but at home. This is the first extracurricular activity our daughter is excited to do and practices at home without being told. Alamo ranch martial arts has taught our kids self defense and discipline while making it a fun environment.
Both of my kiddos attend and they love it. The self defense, discipline and motivation skill they are learning are top notch.
Alamo Ranch Martial Arts is absolutely one of the best! 15/10!!! Our daughter learned so much so far, not only for the moves and how to protect herself, but also how to control and manage herself! Thank you so much! We are very excited to see our daughter grow as she continues to learn! 🥋💚
My son went for the first time tonight and I thought he was going to be very shy at first, but everyone was so welcoming and encouraging, that you could just see him light up. He was absolutely thrilled about earning his white belt. He is already practicing for his next class!
This Facility is so Great at installing discipline into the children. The personnel are gentle yet assertive with their expectations of the students. They not only expect the students to uphold the standards during class, but also make sure they understand that they should do the same at home and in school. Awesome, Awesome Martial arts Institution!!
My kids have attended the classes for ages 4-7 for a month and they love it! The classes have taught them discipline and self defense techniques.
Our son is having a great time learning from Sensei G. He is no nonsense, and pushes the kids to be better and more disciplined, but also knows how to connect with my son when he’s feeling shy or scared.
My son really enjoys the classes! He's learning great personal qualities like discipline and diligence and building confidence learning self defenses. Great instructors!
I like the values being taught, focusing in respect and discipline. The classes are very well structured and also made fun for the kids. I have seen a lot of improvement in my kids self confidence. their good attitude in class also transfers over to home where we also see a big difference in the way they behave. Overall just great.
My son is very shy and I've noticed how much more confidence he has gained every time we went into class. He loves coming home to show his grandparents and brother the new things he has learned. I am glad I was able to find a class that can show him respect, confidence, and self defense. The best choice I could make for my son, im just waiting for my youngest to turn 4 so I can also have him join.
My daughter loves coming to class! I have noticed a change in her confidence and just the way she carries herself. She enjoys learning something new and practicing with me. Would recommend!
With a few class we could see the difference in our son attitude. He was being more help around the house, doing chores without being asked and much more. He loves going to training and learning new moves! In his words " He's a Karate Dude"🤟
We found Alamo Ranch Martial Arts through a Facebook advertisement. They offered 21 days of free instruction with the purchase of a uniform. We went three times a week for three weeks and by the end we were sold. Mr. G shows the kids respect, and his students really like him. One thing we would do different would be to spend time watching his established students to assess their level of competence and how they react to the instructor. After finishing the 21 day program and signing up for classes we got to see established students. The other students are receptive, disciplined, and they all have fun in class. Mr. G makes sure to involve parents in the training, and we like that. I think it helps our 4 y/o know that we're all in it together. Alamo Ranch Martial Arts is a bit far from home for us, and we could certainly find another place closer, but we won't. Our kid has fun, and is already showing better discipline. We'd certainly recommend Mr. G to anyone considering putting their child in martial arts.
Great motivation and fun for our 8 year old. He’s almost at the end of his 3-week challenge and we’ll definitely be signing him up for the regular classes.
I love that my boys, ages 7 and 5, are learning about confidence and respect. This is a well structured program with an amazing instructor!
Our daughter has enjoyed her time here. We've seen her become more respectful and responsible at home in a short period of time. She's gained confidence and really has fun here.
My daughter loves this place. Stuff is very friendly and helpful. The instructor Mr. G is patient and kind. He really cares about his students
We started our 3 kids (ages 4, 5 & 17) 2 weeks ago with the 3 week challenge. We are very pleased with the results thus far. They're taking initiative to help at home and are more conscious of their attitude and focus. Mr. G does a great job using martial arts to influence every area of their lives. So grateful! 🙏
This is my sons 3rd week in the 3 week challenge with Alamo Ranch Martial Arts and we plan to continue! It’s really boosted his confidence and his taught him to have respect for others and has helped with his listening skills. The instructors are great, if you’re okay with tough love then you shouldn’t be offended easily.
My son has attended two classes to far and we are so thrilled with this program! He has been so eager to help and be more hands on at home already! They discipline and follow through very well, but they also mix in a good amount of laughs and giggles. I am really enjoying our family being apart of this welcoming culture.
I've been really impressed with Alamo Ranch Martial Arts during the time my child has been enrolled in the 3 week challenge. The challenge was explained thoroughly and upfront, with everyone knowing what is expected of them. It's a good chance to see what the school has to offer, if your child enjoys it, and what your child gets out of it, both physically, mentally and in attitude. And there is indeed return on that time spent. The instructors care about the children, and work to incorporate good behavior, and attitude both on and off the mat. We've liked it so much, we've decided to enroll our child outside the challenge, and look forward to her progress while attending.
My boys enjoy their classes, it fosters a positive engaging fun environment. I have already seen a change in them and they are only in their first week. We love it
My son participated in the 3 week challenge and really enjoyed it. The instructors were great with the kids.
My son is on his 3rd week of the challenge, he loves it and so do dad and I... We also decided at our meeting last week that he will continue going after challenge is over :)
My son has learned so much. At first he was unsure about martial arts but now that he has been apart of this for the past three weeks he is loving every minute of it. I am glad that I decided to have y’all work with him. They are super kind and work wonders to help your child
We did the 3 week challange and didnt know how our 5yr old daughter was going to do since she has not started school and had much interaction with other people. Since then, it has been an amazing experience to watch her do things out of her comfort zone and give it all she has to improve. We are now signed up for the program and have no doubt in our minds that Mr.Guevara is going to challange her in the best way.
The 3-week trial classes have been a great experience thus far. I notice positive changes in my children and they truly enjoy coming to class. The value of the time (3 days/week) and training offered for just the price of 1 uniform per child, is worthwhile!
My son started here over 4 years ago and this year he received his black belt! I never would have thought he would get that far but he kept raising the bar on what he wanted to accomplish and I believe that was all thanks to the staff and instructors. A great program to uplift the kids and help them achieve their dreams and elevate their respect for others and willingness to support those less fortunate.
We are excited to have our son, Hunter, join this program. Mr. Guevera took a great deal of time to get to know both myself and my wife as parents as well as Hunter. He then took time to custom fit their program to Hunter's individual strengths and weaknesses. He is a very engaging instructor during class.
Great school. The affects of the knee high ninja class on my son has been remarkable and it’s only been a few months. Look forward to seeing him grow under their tutelage
ARMA is a professional and child-centered facility that dedicates their training and processes to the healthiest development of the children they serve. Our son has grown emotionally, socially, and physically because of this center and I would recommend this place to any parent looking to improve the quality of their child's life.
Mr Guevara is a great instructor with the Children... we look forward to a great year in 2019. The Torres Family...
We have really enjoyed our experience over the last year and a half. My son enjoys it, he gets exercise, and they teach him manners, respect and more that applies to life outside the mat. Mr. Guevara takes a real interest in the kids and has honestly been a pleasure to work with. Yes, it costs money, but nothing is hidden or shady. It’s all about what you decide you want out of the program. I would definitely recommend.
This have been my kids first week of karate class and they are always looking forward to come to class. They enjoy very much the training hey get and the discipline they are being tought. Great academy no issues so far. After the 3 week free trail my husband and I are thinking on living them for as long as we can.
My son absolutely loves it here! Really helped him grow as a young man with his self esteem and his confidence!!! Not a day goes by when he doesn’t ask if we are going to karate!! He has made tremendous progress over the course of his time here!!!
My son just started this week and we are already loving it! Instructors have such great attitude and are strict with students which in my opinion is a good thing, we are new to martial arts and loving the experience so far! we definitely recommend Alamo Ranch Martial Arts!
My son Sebastian has been a student for almost two years. We had to freeze our account once and I had no issues. My son and I are very satisfied with the instructors and the life long skills he is learning. Mr. Guevara is a great listener and genuinely cares about his students.
My 10 yr old daughter is participating in the 3 week challenge. We love the fun and positive atmosphere. Love how she is learning respect, discipline, and defending herself. A great program.
My 4-year-old has been attending classes here for a little over four months. We have been SO happy - both Mr. Gonzales and Mr. Guevara are excellent with the kids. They are incredibly patient, yet firm. I highly recommend Alamo Ranch Martial Arts!
My son has been attending Alamo Ranch Martial Arts since October. Since then, he has drastically improved in his behavior at home and at school. We are so happy with the classes. The owner, Mr. Guervara, has been very involved with our son since the beginning. Mr. Gonzales is amazing with the kids too! My son loves coming to class. He always reminds me that he has class and cannot be late. We are very pleased with ARMA and recommend the school!
Great Karate school, very good instructors. Our kids have made really great progress in behavior and being nice with other people. We really recommend Alamo ranch martial arts school, Mr Guevara does a great and understandable contract with all important agreements including cancellations policies. Media is ridiculous, and people should read policies.
My son really enjoys going to class. I like that the instructors teach the kids in a fun way on how to show respect and dedication with fun drills. He is really learning how to show self control and attention, which you know for a 5 year old is kind of hard to stay focus on one task forore then 5 seconds. We are very pleased with the program.
Alamo Ranch Martial Arts is a wonderful program. My son was having a lot of anger issues and was always mad at the world. He start this program and in three weeks he went from a white belt to a gold belt. He started talk nicer to his friends and family. He looks forward to his classes every week. My husband and I are very greatful that we found this program. Thank y'all again.
Our 6 year old son attended the 3 week challenge. He loved it so much that we decided to get a membership. We don't have any experience with martial arts but our son is so excited and enjoys every class. So far it's been a great experience for a family that is new to martial arts.
Friendly environment and kids are genuinely interested and engaged. Great first time experience into martial arts
My daughter is taking there 3 week online class and it has been great so far. He is teaching them everything he would in the classroom setting.
My son is in the 3 week challenge and really enjoys the interaction with the other kids. The only reason I couldn’t give it 5 stars is the space for parents to sit is extremely small and the length of the classes are too short.
My daughters loved their first class here. The instructor is stern and fair with the kids. My daughters couldn’t stop talking about class afterwards. The Bingo cardbos so worth it because it helps me help them stay on track. I look forward to more classes and watching the instructor transform children in this society.
My 6 year old son is very happy to be doing the self defense class here.. I too enjoy watching him and participating during class with him ...! Its a "free" program although you pay for the uniform . $43. & they didnt have my sons size available & failed to give me the top uniform when they finally received the order
The place is great. But I called to remove my child from the program before the 1st so I wouldn’t be billed. They told me they were on break. Okay cool. I got billed the first $216 and called to see if I could get a refund. Sounds silly to me to pay for a month of martial arts that my child would not be attending. Needless to say I was told there was nothing that could be done.
I signed up my 6 year old to start his trial when we arrived to his 1st class the instructor Adam turned us away because we arrived 4 mins late I understand that part of training is to teach discipline however to turn away a 6 year old who was excited for his 1st class because of his parents work schedule is a little too excessive in my point of view. Might help to have a clear communication on about tardiness upon signing up.
Like another person posted, money hungry business. They tricked us into paying upfront for 8 weeks of classes in the beginning of July, 2 classes per week and they offered 5 different classes we could go to. Then they changed the schedule for August which they did not disclose they would do when we gave them our money. Now they only offer 3 classes per week (one on Sat at 9 am) We can only take one class per week and asked to take 3 additional classes to make up for the change in schedule and to get our money's worth. Their response - no sorry everyone has been asked to adjust to the new schedule so you should too. We were only asking for what we paid for upfront, nothing else.
Very money hungry. Had 2 referrals and never got honored. The owner gives a big smile when you say you will sign the contract. Afterwards you are just another credit card. Everyone we referred quit. Greed will hurt the owner in the end. Owner stated he is anti bully, but is a bully when it comes to money. Hypocrite. Found a much better Dojo. Amazing people and owner. Knows all the parents by name. About 5 miles aways from this place.
I just called to get prices and schedule, to see if I could fit in my grandson, and the guy insisting to go for a 2 week trial and refuse to give me their prices, why so suspicious about how much they charge 🤔, I decided Not to go with them! His authoritarian voice is his way or the high way.
Sooo I was not going to leave a mark about ‘how I feel about this place’ but since they want to REPORT TO MY CREDIT, I am definitely going to say a few words of criticism. THEY ARE GREEDY MONEY PEOPLE! The day I walked into Karate Academy, they were nice. Signed my kid up for their program and went about my day. A few months later, I came across a hard time and needed to relocate (across town). When I explained this to Karate Academy, they were stuck on the money money money. I just paid his last month there To be courteous... however, I could no longer pay for any more classes. Sooooo what do they do, continue to try and charge me! So I change my card. NOW they are reporting to my credit that I owe them 1,000+ dollars. They are greedy, inconsiderate. And expensive for no reason! Classes are short and not worth the price.
I have emailed and text Mr Guevara personally and received text messages back from him. I let him know in writing by email and text a full explanation that my son will no longer be attending his school. It is not affordable to us and with 1 vehicle and my husband working out of town now we are unable to attend his classes. He is refusing to accept my email and text message letting him know about our situation and is stating that we need to go in and fill out a cancellation form. And we still need to pay for tuition. I have asked him to mail me a cancellation form and i can fax it back to him and he is also refusing that as well. They have attempted to charge our bank 3 different amounts this week alone but we have since froze our bank institution because of them.
I originally posted a great review upon starting with Alamo Ranch Martial Arts. I read reviews and had a gut feeling after the first couple of months but my boys enjoyed it so I didn't think twice about letting them stay. Little did I know what I was in for upon withdrawing my kids. Mr. Guevara is a very nice guy and will go above and beyond to get you in to sign the contract and his marketing skills will definitely keep you there until your child/children have outgrown it and you're ready to give the competition a shot. Our contract...yes there is a contract... although everything he says leads to to believe it's not. We gave a 60 day notice and our contact ended yesterday, September 2 on a holiday and the new billing cycle started today and we were charged a full $278 dollars despite giving a 60 day notice which we did. We were even fine with being charged for the 1st few days of September even September the 1st fell on a Sunday and they were closed yesterday because of the holiday. The admin who handles the payments at the front desk told us it would be prorated and his response was "they were wrong" Unfortunately, it is becoming evident that the business will not sustain itself because morally and ethically, there's a lot of work to be done. You will be stuck losing money if you sign up here because in the end he's trying to make up for all those that drop out after the 3 week challenge. Keep in mind, the money wasn't an issue but to do this to someone is mere garbage. I say he needs the money more than we do so prayers go out to him and his business.
The challenge starts with the parent going into fill out the challenge contract and to pay the $39.95 plus tax, so $43.25. You'll either be told that the challenge is free and you need to pay for the uniform, or the sign on the side of the road will say the challenge is $39.95 with a free uniform. Either way, you are paying $39.95 for a Century karate uniform that costs $34.99 from their website. Don't worry, you'll make recoup the other $5 on the orientation day. At orientation, you'll be given a little gift bag with some notes in it thanking you. There's also a t-shirt for the kids and a $5 Starbucks gift card in it. Orientation lasts about 30 minutes. Pay attention during orientation and note when any of the instructors qualify themselves to actually teach Karate. In order to graduate, the students must "earn" their white belt and then 3 black stripes and 3 colored stripes on their belt. The white belt gets earned very quickly, my child received it on the 2 day going. For the little ones, they just have to stand still for 10 seconds, older ones have to recite the student creed. Once they have their belt, now the focus is on earning the red, white and blue stripes and the 3 black stripes. The red stripe is given by the instructor for being good in class. It happens quick, after all why would Johnny or Suzy want to come back if they aren't earning anything (instant gratification). The white stripe is earned by the student getting a note from their teacher saying they are good. The blue stripe is earned by the parent writing a note saying how much Johnny or Suzy has improved since starting the challenge. The 3 black stripes get earned during the last week of the challenge for doing the same thing over and over again. Meaning that each of the 3 black stripes gets earned for doing the exact same thing. Each class is very similar. Making an "X" with their arms. Holding the arms to their chest. Holding their arms up in the air to make a big "V" and standing at attention with their arms to their side. Additionally they learn how to put an arm over their head to block a pool noodle attack, as well as duck and jump. Also during class the kids will do a lot of jumping jacks, punch paper and do army crawls across the mat. Stranger danger is also a big part of the class. The kids are taught what to say and how to react when a stranger tries to grab their arm. This is a big marketing tool as it speaks to the parents wanting to make sure Johnny or Suzy can protect themselves from strangers. Part of the challenge is a parents meeting with Mr. Victor "Geno" Guevara Jr (Google him). He's going to try and figure out what the problem is with Johnny or Suzy and then explain how martial arts can help fix it. He'll try very hard to be sincere, but keep in mind, he's a salesman working to turn an intro into a contract. Then he's going to draw a belt, with 3 stripes on each side and explain again the physical and the personal development that's needed to be successful in martial arts and in life. He's going to tell you that to sign up, there's a $250 membership fee the monthly tuition ranges from $139 to $199. Then he'll tell you that if you sign up today, he'll take off $100 from the membership fee. What he doesn't tell you at this point is that every time Johnny or Suzy tests for a new belt, you are paying $50 or more on top of the monthly tuition. He'll also forget to tell you about the required gear that must be purchased from them, another couple hundred. Finally, we're at graduation day. This is where Johnny or Suzy with their white belt, 3 black stripes and 3 colored stripes are going to test for a gold belt (camouflage with a yellow stripe, $7.99 from Century). They do jumping jacks, they make an X with their arm and they defend against a padded foam stick attack. The kids love it and are very proud of their accomplishment. Now, hopefully as a good parent, you see the joy in Johnny or Suzy's eyes and sign that contract.
You all know how Deuce worked so hard over 3 years to become a black belt! We stood beside him, cheered for him, cried with him and congratulated him! It took 3 full years of hard work, dedication and about $10,000 to get him to this point. This all came to a wonderful end July 28th and he became a black belt with Karate Academy. We went through 3, one year contracts with Karate Academy, now Alamo Ranch Martial Arts, off Culebra Rd with Geno Guevara, his mother Aurora Guevara and his 1 other instructor Isaac Gonzales. They decided they didn’t want to let us go even after I told them we were done and decided to send me to Phoenix Recovery Group here in San Antonio for collections. They want me to pay them for services not rendered for a year! Yes! You read that right. September 2018-September 2019 for $2,258 total! How nice would that be? Get paid for nothing? WOW! Can I just say how unhappy this makes me!? Get this though, when I reached out to Geno Guevara (screen shots in the pictures) he said I would have to take it up with the collection company. That’s weird, I thought they collected for debts? I don’t have a contract with you or your new Company Alamo Ranch Martial Arts. My contract was over on August 3rd. Geno, do you remember giving Brittny Baldwin Betts the award for “Most Social Media Presence”? Yea, you’ve not met me yet. I gave you fair warning and a chance to make this right. You hid behind your bad decision instead. Phoenix Recovery Group has also sent threatening emails, snail mail and won’t stop calling even after I have stated that is not a valid debt and asked them to produce the contract. They haven’t stopped or sent the contract. In fact, I just got a call from them about 20 min ago. Fair Warning to anyone thinking about joining, or even trying, Alamo Ranch Martial Arts just because they’re close to home. Read all the rave reviews for Karate Academy. This was their former name. Please share! Sharing is Caring!
