Birthday Party Review 🥳
5/5 experience! We had my son's 6th birthday at Active Martial Arts and it was awesome! Perfect place for a high energy group of kiddos. Mr Kyle is great with kids & very engaging. The kids got to have a martial arts lesson appropriate to their age, dessert (supplied by me), and play many energy-filled games that they all enjoyed. Mr Kyle did a great job involving all the kiddos and worked well with all the different personalities that the group today had. And the parents had a relaxing time easily watching the kids play in a fun and safe environment! (No chasing your kid thru a trampoline park to keep eyes on them, if you know then you know.) We thank Active Martial Arts for a great time today & plan on pursuing classes there next.
Wonderful Martial Art's School with great and caring Staff. Their after School and Summer programs are great for Kids.
They even have a great parents night out program.
Active Martial Arts is hands down the BEST martial arts school I’ve ever been a part of! From the moment you walk through the doors, you’re welcomed by an incredibly positive and motivating atmosphere that makes you feel like part of a family.
The instructors are world-class – they are knowledgeable, passionate, and truly care about each student’s progress. They don’t just teach techniques; they instill discipline, confidence, and mental toughness that translate into everyday life. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced martial artist, they push you to become your best self while keeping the training fun, engaging, and incredibly effective.
The facility is top-notch, always clean, well-equipped, and designed for both kids and adults to train comfortably. The community here is amazing – supportive, high-energy, and full of people who genuinely want to see each other succeed.
Since joining, I’ve seen huge improvements in my fitness, self-discipline, and overall mindset. It’s not just about learning martial arts—it’s about becoming stronger, inside and out.
If you’re looking for a place that will push you to achieve your full potential, teach you real self-defense skills, and surround you with inspiring people, Active Martial Arts is the place to be! Don’t even think twice – just sign up, and thank me later! 💪🔥🥋
Would give 10 stars if I could! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
My kids have been coming here for about 1 year now. They have made several new friends, and have grown in character overall. Mr. Kyle is super supportive, and always plans fun events for everyone! Overall, this is an amazing place to send your kids.
Active Martial Art has been incredible for my sons! They’ve learned not just martial arts but also valuable life lessons in a supportive and inspiring environment. The sense of community here is amazing, and Cameron is a truly exceptional teacher—patient, skilled, and motivating. Highly recommend!
Gemma has been attending Active Martial Arts for almost 3 years and it has been an awesome experience. Instructor Mr. Kyle has been nothing short of amazing and devotes so much time to his students. Mr. Kyle Senior is so helpful and loves every one of his students and is always there to be supportive.
Gemma has gained so much confidence in her time there and her discipline and focus have greatly improved.
Active Martial Arts also has the best summer camp around hands down. The kids went on weekly field trips and got to go outside every day. Gemma's sister also went to summer camp, and she is not a student at Active Martial Arts but really loved it and wants to join Martial arts now.
Active is a second family to us and we love the studio and all staff. Highly recommend to anyone looking to have their kids in Martial arts!!
When I started taking my son there he was very shy and was scared to try it but with both Mr Kyle’s help and support they help my son become more confident and strong and taught him to use his voice and learn how to be strong we love going and they are like family to us and very welcoming as well I would recommend to anyone they are wonderful.
We ❤️ Active Martial Arts! My children have learned how to punch, kick, block, and protect themselves. But I am even more encouraged by the character and leadership skills that they have learned. Mr. Kyle and Miss Derr are excellent teachers!
I've been at Active Martial Arts for 7 years now and I am so glad I have been a part of this community. Active has grown my confidence and strength more than anything else could and it has shaped me into an entirely different person today. I'm so grateful for the Kyles and the community I have through Active.
I recently enrolled my child in the summer camp program at Active Martial Arts, and my kid was super happy! The staff was incredibly friendly and made every child feel welcome from day one. They kept the kids engaged with a variety of new indoor and outdoor games, ensuring there was never a dull moment. My child had an absolute blast and couldn't stop talking about all the fun activities and new friends made. If you're looking for a place where your kids can have a wonderful time and be well cared for, I highly recommend Active Martial Arts' summer camp!
This is an incredible place to bring your children! They are so attentive to the smaller kids! My 6 year old nephew absolutely loves this place! And he loves his instructor, Mr. Kyle. I highly recommend this place for anyone interested in enrolling their kid in Karate!
Active Martial Arts has been such a positive influence for my kids. I have two kids who have gone through both their Super Heroes class for younger kids and their standard big kids martial arts classes. They teach discipline, confidence, and self-respect, among others. The instruction/ownership makes all the difference and I highly recommend this establishment.
We love Active Martial Arts! Kids are taught respect, self control, discipline and more, but also have a lot of fun. Highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to learn martial arts, cultivate discipline and build leadership skills.
Hosted my son’s birthday party at Active Martial Arts, and it was perfect! The owner was very helpful and accommodating when finding a date/time for the party. The staff who ran the event were both wonderful with the kids. It was a high energy and fun party, and all of the kids had a great time. The kids were mostly aged 6-7, but younger siblings were able to participate as well.
Had an awesome time watching my nephew's birthday party! The kids had a blast and were completely enthralled with learning and playing. Would definitely recommend!
My son has learned so much in the brief time he has been in this class. Teaching patience, respect, and leadership in a structured environment. The instructors are fantastic with all the kids and help them through all the hurdles they experience in class. I would recommend this place above all others ❤️
We have been taking our son here for almost 4 years now. Every time we considered going to a different Karate/taekwondo/etc school we would turn back to Active Martial Arts. Even after we moved out of the area to further distance, we still coming back here. Very welcoming environment. They don’t only teach how to be strong physically but emotionally, how to respect and be a good contributor to the society, how to self defend and help others. The classes are not overcrowded. I don’t expect my son to be Bruce Lee, but him feeling comfortable and included is what matters to me.
My son has ADHD & Anxiety, so he struggles with executive functioning (planning, focus attention, remembering, juggling multiple tasks/steps) and being a self-advocate. A neuro eval recommendation was to try Martial Arts. When I read this, we had many concerns. We've heard from other parents how strict some of these places can be, how some correct kid errors by whacking their legs. Their focus is on winning competitions. Our kid is extremely sensitive & we didn't want to cause him more anxiety or self-esteem issues by enrolling him in a place like that. We also had already tried many activities like soccer, 3 different swim lesson places, gym class & gymnastics. He struggled to want to participate, sometimes sitting out, too anxious to join along. Some of these places he learned to like, but he wasn't passionate about them. I looked up a few Martial Art places to consider in the Mill Creek area, but AMA intrigued me the most because the focus was 100% on the kids. We didn't care about how fast he could earn belts or about trophies . We needed a place where our son could feel supported & safe to make mistakes, to speak up for himself, to make friends & learn something new. He struggles with large team sports because of his anxiety- we needed a place where he could be an individual but also part of a team. We signed up for the trial & hoped for the best.
My son was super anxious to start class & honestly, so was I! The instructors were welcoming to us and made a point to connect with my son. I was surprised that he felt comfortable enough to participate in his first class on day one! I was worried the formalities would scare him, but everyone was super helpful with moving him along with the class in a way that didn't make him feel singled out. After a few classes, we were all in. My kid LOVES Active Martial Arts. He belongs here.
Six months into our membership, my son turned 7 and it was time to move up into the older class from the younger class. He was very nervous about this transition as change is hard for his anxiety. The instructors were instrumental in making this transition smooth. We watched the older class for a cycle & it was helpful that the assistant instructors in the younger kids class were also in the older kids class, so he already knew them. His transition was amazing & he is thriving in the older kids class!
We have been going to Occupational Therapy (to help with his executive functioning, self-advocacy & motor skills) for four years. Last week, the therapist told me she can really see how much these Martial Arts classes have improved my son's self-esteem, large motor skills, his ability to focus & be more social. We love the "yes I can" mantra & use it in our family every day. We love the values (discipline, respect, communication, self-esteem, honesty), which are helpful reminders for our kid when he's struggling to manage his anxiety and ADHD. I am so thankful to have a neutral third party instructor/coach that both my son and I trust to ask for advice to help guide us through challenges. My kid comes out of his shell here. He has friends. He uses his voice. He has confidence. He practices his Martial Arts at home almost daily. He leads us, including the dog, through classes at home, imitating his instructors, which is beyond entertaining!
I also appreciate the Active Martial Arts Mill Creek community. The families are very diverse, made of various backgrounds- race, ethnicity, income, religion/beliefs, kids schooling, shapes/sizes of families. It's amazing how different we all are yet we can respectfully share ideas/advice between each other.
Updated: We've been coming to Active Martial Arts for over a year now. Per my son's Occupational Therapist, my son has had significant improvement in his core strength, social skills and ability to focus. She attributes much of this to his work at Active Martial Arts. The teachers are always willing to talk with him or me about any issues we need help with. He feels like he belongs at Active Martial Arts Mill Creek, which means everything to my family.
We've been part of AMA for almost 3 years. I have watched not only my own children, but many others grow in confidence, strength and respect for themselves and others. My oldest didn't want to participate at all at first, but quickly grew into my most determined child to succeed. Both Mr. Kyle Sr and Jr care and know the kids. There is a great balance of fun and seriousness. Finally, they have the best birthday parties. Easy for the parents and fun for the kids!
I love this place! Family owned and it shows. They care so much about these kids! I’ve watched my son turn from being shy to an active participant in class. He loves it too! He’s even been better behaved at home!! Highly recommend
Great positive and encouraging environment! Mr. Kyle is very skilled in connecting with and motivating the kids not only to do their personal best but to live the values of the black belt and become caring members of the community. I see my son’s confidence continue to increase, he is proactively setting personal goals, and he loves to come to sessions.
I highly recommend Active Martial Arts in Mill Creek! Active has been a huge blessing for my child. Children in this program obtain physical skills and training in mixed martial arts, important emotional and mental health skills, as well as an opportunity to be a part of a safe and positive community. As a single parent, Active has immensely supported me in discipline. I can tell that the leaders of Active have a passion for what they do, and have created this school with integrity.
Thanks everyone at Active! We are dedicated to your purpose and are grateful to have you as a part of our lives.
My son started classes towards the end of May when a friend decided to go back to classes. In the few months he's attended I've seen wonderful changes in his confidence and self-esteem. He is more respectful as well. He's earned his white belt, yellow belt and will test for his orange belt next week. We really enjoy the overall set up of this facility. They focus on helping you learn not just martial arts, but becoming a well-rounded individual. Mr. Kyle Jr who runs my sons class makes it fun to learn and builds confidence by trying different ways to push the kids to do their best each class. We were definitely welcomed in and proud to be a part of the AMA Family.
A great martial arts school for kids, teaching a combination type of martial arts to teach kids about Courage, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, Courage, Honor, and Community.
My youngest attends, and it's been fun watching him grow in courage and perseverance especially.
We have been so impressed with the genuine love and care taken at Active Martial Arts. Our eight year old son has already grown in maturity and both physical and emotional strength since joining this program. The team at Active take care in getting to know each child, addressing them by name and with respect and rejoicing in their progress. Thank you!!
Active Martial Arts is a great establishment that is well run and all around well worth the time and money. My son has loved his time learning from each of the teachers here and he has grown so much in the time since he has started. We are so thankful we found this place and hope to be involved for along time to come.
Active martial arts is a very fun and interactive martial arts training facility. The owner and his son are great with the kids and are very patient. The other staff are also wonderful with my kids. I wish the sessions were a little longer but I am overall very happy. More importantly so is my son!
Great Martial Arts school all around, my son loves it..We couldn't of asked for a better place for him to take classes! We're so happy we were able to find this little gem of a school!
Active has been life changing for my shy little 5 year old, who started when he was 4. He use to be so shy and timid before I put him in Active. Now my little boy has soo much confidence its amazing! Before he wouldnt talk to his own family now he comments on peoples masks and glasses and shirts in the store saying how nice they look. He has become such positive boy making everyone around him feel good about themselves. So many benefits to these classes even for young kids!
My daughter has been with AMA since she was 7. She is now almost 11. This was just as Mr. Jeff Kyle and Mr. Cameron Kyle took ownership.
I cannot speak highly enough of these two gentlemen. They are fantastic working with kids of all ages. They are patient while they teach. Never once making a student feel bad for how they are doing. They take the time to talk to students (and parents) if there are problems or concerns whether it be about martial arts, school or home.
They not only teach martial arts. They also stress confidence, respect, self esteem and so much more.
They have truly built a feeling of community and family. We have potlucks after graduation celebrations and a picnic in the park in the summer.
I will continue taking my student to AMA
Jeff Kile and Cameron Kile are amazing instructors that address the whole person in an empowering way. A great place to learn confidence and increase skills. I’m grateful for Active Marital Arts.
Jeff and Cameron are amazing people overall. We have been taking our kids to their program for a year now and absolutely love it. We are more impressed with the values they want to install in our children. They want to see our kids grow into responsible, well rounded honoring young adults. You just don't get that anywhere!! The kids absolutely love it, and we will be going to Active Martial Arts for many years ahead!
Active Martial Arts is a wonderful place. I have been taking my son since he was four years old. In addition to martial arts they also teach him other life skills. He now knows how to properly introduce himself; talk loud and clear, hand out and looking straight in the eye. What to do if a stranger grabs him; lock his legs, scream for help, bite. He also shows more respect towards others, demonstrates first time obedience and has better listening skills. All this and so much more is thanks to Active Martial Arts, and the best part is he loves going to class!
Our boys look forward to going to martial arts, Mr Kyle keeps things fun and exciting! We as parents are very pleased with the life lessons that are taught as well. Truly a great place ran by extraordinary people.
This is a great place. I've done personal training with the current owner, Jeff, for a couple years now. I've watched him and his son assume ownership of this business and really come into their own. Dozens of families come through, all very nice people who all enjoy the community that's been created. Jeff is a hard worker, a great motivator, and a great coach. Very family-oriented establishment. I highly recommend.
Great school! Our daughter really enjoyed every class she attended. Keep up the good work guys! Very friendly, family environment, clean. 5 stars in my book! =)
I am so impressed and so grateful for the instructions my son Grayson has been given as he achieves his belts here. The family like close feeling like atmosphere is so welcoming and such an integral part of why we love this place. Mister Kyle is very approachable to both the students and the parents. He also has a firm grasp on the need to convey and impart the values you would expect in a well structured and open environment.
Every age and fitness level is welcome. Go at your own pace at the kickboxing class. I went from being out of shape to feeling and looking great again.
My seven-year-old son attends active martial arts along with his best friend of the same age. But children enjoy the classes and look forward to them. They strike a nice balance between teaching discipline and allowing the children to have fun. Highly recommend.
We enrolled our son this summer and he is loving the beginner class. The instructors are great and they create a very comfortable and inclusive atmosphere for the kids.
I singed my son up at Active Martial Arts about 8 months ago. I wanted him to know how to defend himself and also boost his confidence. We are really happy so far, and my son has a great time while learning valuable skills
We love Active Martial Arts! I signed up my son in hopes that he'd gain more confidence and to assert himself more. It's been great watching him grow in these areas and my expectations have more than been met. My son is always excited to attend his martial arts classes and he asks to practice the skills at home. Ms. Trautmann is an amazing instructor who makes the classes fun while holding high expectations.
When describing why we chose Active Martial Arts Mill Creek, I prefer to use the Three Bears analogy. My son, Rafael, has a unique personality that made it a challenge to find the right school. Some were great, but way too strict, others too lax in their discipline. When we observed our first class, something connected for Rafael and he felt it would be just right. Having studied martial arts for many years, I couldn't agree more. Ms. Trautmann and her team combine a great mix of workout, instruction, and fun. I've seen a very positive change in Rafael's focus and he glowed with pride when he received a 10/10 on his first belt test. The costs are reasonable compared to other schools on the area. I encourage anyone looking for a martial arts school for their high-energy child or themselves to sit in on a class.
My 2 boys (3 and 5 years old) started going to Active about 4 months and I can not say enough good things about this place. The boys love it and are always excited to go and the instructor is absolutely amazing with kids. They have learned respect, discipline and how to listen to directions. It 's a great way for them to get some much needed focused energy out! Take the trial and you won't be disappointed.
Active Martial Arts has been a great experience for my son Ben. He's learning more than just the martial arts aspect, as this is helping him be more focused, respectful, attentive and patient.
He still has some issues occasionally due to his emotions or ADHD but Ms. Trautman or one of her student instructors/assistants always help him focus and get back on track.
In all honesty, we weren't too sure how Ben was going to like martial arts, so we started him on a trial program. Luckily, he loved it and almost a year and a half later he still loves it.
Seeing his smile when he accomplishes something that has been difficult to learn or when he earns another stripe is an amazing thing, and his sense of accomplishment makes him want to continue. :)
We were new to the area and was looking for a martial art school. My son had been learning karate for a year at our old place and he absolutely love his teacher and classes there, so finding one that could compare to his high standard was not easy. We tried other martial arts classes in the area before we came to Active Martial Arts, and we are so happy that we chose this place. My son is thriving well in the class and he always has something to show me after class.
Active Martial Arts have fantastic instructors/ mentors who know what they're doing. I started attending AMA in the beginning of April and have felt like I've grown in skill and knowledge of Muay Thai and Taekwondo. Ms. Trautmann and Mr. Olson cater to every member at AMA no matter where they fall of the spectrum of skill and knowledge. On top of the instructors being great, the people that attend here are amongst the most cheerful and upbeat bunch of individuals you'll ever meet. My only concern with AMA is the current location because of the difficulty with the traffic turning into the establishment. On the plus side AMA is only a couple minutes away.
Active Martial Arts has been wonderful for both of my children. It is a positive environment for them in which they have have goals and accomplishments that they look forward too. The teachers here have brought focus for my 7 year old daughter and confidence for my 8 year old son. The fitness aspect is wonderful, the respect aspect is even better, and weekly the kids learn about life lessons in class. The kids touch on topics including respect, responsibility, strangers, bullying, healthy eating, and drinking water to name a few. The kids have lots of little steps and accomplishments they gain weekly so they always leave feeling accomplished and confident. I would recommend this program to anyone with children of any age.
I've been doing the adult striking classes for about 6 months now, and I've had a great experience so far. I've learned a lot, the instructors are great and are always willing to help.
AMC is an amazing program for all ages. My 8 y/o son was not interested in any martial arts till he tried AMA. From then on he is so eager to attend the lessons with super energetic and well versed instructors Mr.Olson and Ms.Trautman . It is so impressive of how they build up students in all aspects physically, mentally and socially with strong integrity. They incorporate so much fun activities, exciting games with positive interactions rather than competition . I highly recommend AMA to everyone.
We love this place!
My daughter just started Martial Arts a month or so ago.
Before she started at Active she tried another place. She REALLY did not like it at all!
From the first night she tried Active, she loved it!
She has so much fun., has learned so much about self defense, respect and focus.
If she could , she would come every day! The instructors are fun, but expect respect and really do a great job with the kids. Love, love , love this place.
My 6 year old and 4 year old son started Martial Arts here a few months ago. They are both really interested in Martial Artsand really wanted to try. The instructors there are phenomenal with children. They love going and practicing what they learn. Their manners have improved as well from the discipline aspect of the class like the please and thank you, yes sir and yes ma'am.
I started my 7 year old daughter in Active Martial Arts in Mill Creek on November 2014. We found their flyer in a restaurant and it looked pretty interesting, especially since it also gave a free uniform with the free, trial class. We were already planning to try a martial arts class a week before and it was like a sign that we see a flyer for the class we wanted in our area! We took her and her best friend along and they immediately liked the class. There is an excellent amount of kids to the teachers, every child gets enough attention, making sure they learn their forms correctly. The teachers are ALWAYS upbeat and ready to teach the children. They are able to garner respect and attention the moment the kids step on the mat. We did a trial class at another studio 2 days before Active Martial Arts in Mill Creek and the difference was stupendous. This class was very professional, coordinated, proficient, fun, exciting, and full of learning skills that my child and her best friend will be able to use in their lifetime. Be it discipline, self-defense, social skills, paying attention, giving respect, and many more other techniques that are practical for anyone in life. Thank you Active Martial Arts teachers for giving my child something to look forward to each week and for something that makes me feel safe knowing she is learning techniques that will stay with her all her life and help her out if/when needed.
My 5 year old son started Martial Arts here a few months ago. He is pretty shy, so we didn't think it would stick, but he really wanted to try. The instructors there are phenomenal with children. He loves going, loves them, and they really seem to understand how to work with all personality types. His confidence has been so elevated in his experience at Active.
The lessons they teach the kids each class are great and will benefit them for the rest of their lives. I have seen them with my son and other kids give individual attention when needed (like being shy with new instructors). Every time I am there, I am so impressed by the operation.
I have never written a review before, but felt guilty for not with Active Martial Arts. When people like Ms. Troutmen (sp? sorry) and Mr. Olsen do something so well, it should be recognized. Without a doubt, some of the best money I've ever spent on the well being of my child. My two younger ones will join sooner than later!
My daughter has been going to Marital arts for six months and loves it. The instructors are great and very good with the kids. She leaves every class feeling energized and in a better mood than when she got there.
My 11 year old son has been with the Mill Creek Active Martial Arts School for about 9 months now and absolutely loves it. He is autistic and has never been able to work well in most team sports, but martial arts have been great for him. His school teachers have commented on the huge improvements in the classroom since joining, noting that he has been calmer and more focused. On top of the martial arts training, at the end of each class there is a short discussion on a variety of topics to help the kids learn things like goal setting, focus techniques, and self-respect. All of the instructors are great and really know how to work with children to keep them focused and motivated.
My chiropractor agreed that martial arts would be a good rehabilitation program after a back injury I was working through. Walking through the door was intimidating, but the staff and students are kind, helpful, and make a person feel welcome and comfortable. The martial arts program effectively teaches compassion, patience, focus, and respect. The kickboxing class is intense and a great workout!
Topnotch! My son has been going to Active for 4 months now and he is loving it! I recently started their adult beginner striking class and I'm glad I did. Their instructor's are very helpful and understanding of your abilities. I have no doubt I will be in better shape and pretty good at Tai Kwon Do in no time. Nice facility also!
Great studio and excellent instructors. My daughter has been taking classes for several months and she absolutely loves it. Great way to get kids up, moving and doing something other than watching TV and playing video games. If you are looking for a great kids martial arts studio, you really should check these guys out!
My daughter Avrie has been taking martial arts since November this year. We have been very happy that she has found a place she wants to go. The staff and teachers are all encouraging, patient, and knowledgeable. We have been very pleased with the lessons and values they are helping us to instill in our daughter.
I have two boys in two different classes and they love coming every day and they are always doing new things and have learned allot. although the traffic sucks to get out into, I deal with it since my kids enjoy coming. ** they basically paid people for 5 star reviews, unfortunately **
I have to enter my email just to get ANY information? Yea right. I just want to know what kinds of classes are offered and when. How much is a membership? Why not put that vital information on your site? I don't want to sign up for a trial class, I don't want the extra spam in my email, and I don't appreciate that I have to work to get basic information.
Edit: after leaving my review, I was thinking I should change my review and give them a call for the information I wanted. Unfortunately, the owner saw fit to fire back in a condescending and rude manner (and still not providing any actual information), solidifying my one star review.
I still think relevant information should be on your website. He mentioned I could facebook, text, call, or email him, but none of that information is available either except phone (which is likely a land line).
I'll admit my review was hasty, but now you've earned it.
