Have been by for the 6am classes and 6am (secret) Saturday open mat. Excellent jiu jitsu, experienced instructors, welcoming environment. Recommend checking it out!!
Posted 6 months agoIf your looking for a family oriented but competition ready team or just a place to really get in shape through JiuJitsu then 1802 is the place for you and your kids! Started with my youngest around 2016 and still here with my oldest daughter now training!
Posted 1 year agoI’m really happy with this gym: The coaches are prepared and patient. But above all there are so many for the toddlers group, so that everyone can follow them. The gym is clean and tidy. It has a large parking lot available for families and a room for parents and other expectant siblings with toys and videogames.
Posted 1 year agoWe love 1802 Jiu-jitsu! It’s an amazing family-run facility with a great vibe - warm, welcoming, and full of positive energy. My 6-year-old daughter goes several days a week and absolutely loves it. She’s gained so much confidence (and yes, she can put anyone in a headlock now!). The professors and coaches are the best—they work so well with kids and make every class fun and engaging. Everyone we’ve met who’s come out of this studio has nothing but great things to say! Hands down, the best jiujitsu program in the area!
Posted 1 year agoI mean I own a martial arts school in the area and I still bring my kids and train jujitsu here, what else is there to say 😂 1802 is great and whether it’s kids or adults your kids are going to get all the benefits of a highly qualified instructor who can even break it down for kids. I’ve seen jujitsu teachers who can’t teach kids and it hurts to watch. Watching Professor Henry teach my kiddo sold me he is the real deal. And I just all around love the training environment, great place to train!
Posted 1 year agoThis is a GREAT gym! If you’re new to the area or just visiting I would suggest dropping in. Everyone is super chill and the coaching team is unbelievable. Very welcoming to all who train or anyone that’s new to the sport. Kids classes are phenomenal, as well as all other levels. Just a great place to train and I’m glad that I found it. Hope you join us!
If you live in San Diego I cannot speak highly enough about the character, integrity, and skill of the team and coaches at 1802 Jiu Jitsu. Having attended various martial arts studios over the years, the quality at 1802 is by far the best I have seen. The environment is encouraging, growth oriented, and team focuses. Your ego might get damaged, but your confidence and determination will grow in its place.
Wonderful experience! We took my 7 year old daughter for the trial kids class and she really enjoyed it. We were incredibly pleased with how kind and helpful the staff is, and the coaches really know how to keep jiu jitsu fun while also training the kids on useful skills as well. I would highly recommend!
Great place for kids or adults to train. Kids meet new friends, build confidence and stay in shape.
Dropped in for a class during a business trip and had a great experience. Big clean gym, nice ambiance, springy mats, good training partners, and Professor John was very welcoming, gave very detailed demos of the technique and helpful tips during drilling. Anyone who lives nearby is lucky to have such a great place to train.
I honestly can't say enough good things about this place. Coach Derryck has really set up an amazing gym and the coaches there are really fantastic. The previous location (above KidVentures) was a bit cramped, so it's really nice that they were finally able to find a new location. Their new gym has a lot more space so the kids can spread out and they even put in some gym equipment so parents can work out while their kids are rolling. Coach Derryck really cares about the kids and works hard to instill a love for the sport in them. He is also very safety-conscious and teaches the kids how to do techniques in a safe way and never to cause any harm to their teammates. Coach Ric is also a fantastic addition and is so patient with the kids. They also have a fair promotion system and give stripes/belts out during promotions once a quarter, if you earn it. We've been members of this gym for over 1.5 years and our son has developed a love for the sport.
How should I start? This place is just amazing. From the coaches to the people and kids training there, the atmosphere is so comfortable and open. Everyone is treated like family. Coach Derryck is so good with the toddlers and kids and his lovely wife, Leslie is such a great training partner. There’s no other place to bring the whole family for a great workout. I’m glad I’ve chosen this place to train because not only have I improved in my jiu jitsu, I gained lifelong friends that I consider family. Don’t pass this place up.
I have visited other jiujitsu schools and THE STRONGHOLD is by far the the most welcoming environment. The Professors are amazing and truly care about individual progress as well as developing comraderie and Team Building. If you need that extra boost in your life, you just want to learn a martial arts, or already a fit person looking for a new excercise then look no further. The Stronghold is the last stop.
Atmosphere was great. Everyone was nice and helpful. Can't wait to start soon. Hopefully in a week or 2 when my schedule gives me more free time to train. BUT If your looking FOR a nice friendly Place To train THIS Is THE Home FOR You.
