JOHN MOEHRING

I am 64 years old and have been training with Coach Steve and Coach Dan for four months. Not only are they excellent teachers of the art, but they have created a extremely welcoming atmosphere for ALL of their students! I consider it a priviledge that I can train in such a positive environment. I looked at a number of other schools before joining this one and there was simply no comparison. When I observed my first class at 10th Planet Hauppauge in contemplation of joining, the students attending that class came over to me and introduced themselves. I could see this school had a different vibe, which was very positive. That Vibe starts at the top. The school has a very diverse membership with everyone treated equally sharing the passion to learn. The best life choice I have made in years! JOHN MOEHRING, ESQ.

Steve and all the instructors at 10P are fantastic to train under. I started almost 1 yr ago in my mid 40's... i was a little nervous but these guys including all the students made it a really easy and comfortable experience. You can come in at any age or any level and there are so many options for you to meet your goals in BJJ. Steve's connects his knowledge of JJ and anatomy in all of our workouts and lessons. Kids classes are great for all ages... Steve is an amazingly patient and exceptional teacher for the kids. My son has been a student since 5yrs old, going on 12 shortly. Watching him grow through the process and starting to apply seemingly endless knowledge ingrained in his brain over the last 5yrs is really great to see. I'm very proud of him and while we just mess around teaching each other what we learned that week; I'm super excited to have him on the mat (kickin my butt) with me in a couple years....:)

I've been attending 10PLI for 1.5 years and my journey here has been incredible. The level of instruction is unparalleled and the community is very supportive. The owner and head instructor, Steve, is super passionate about BJJ and he draws on his decades of experience to teach comprehensive, in-depth classes for all skill levels. The gym itself is very clean and well-organized, including showers, a sauna, ice bath, and squat rack, and the membership prices are very reasonable. To anyone looking to get into BJJ for the first time, or all the way up to highly experienced grapplers wanting to improve and take their game to the next level, I would definitely recommend checking this gym out. You won't be disappointed!

An elite level BJJ school for all grappling practitioners: no-gi, wrestling, gi, standup, newaza. Instructors are friendly, highly skilled, and have a holistic approach to comprehensive wellness, often providing wellness coaching sessions. School invites specialists to give talks on all topics and promote community as a part of well being. The school has a sauna, fitness equipment, and cold plunge, offering a ton of classes throughout the week, including gi glasses. Conveniently located right off northern state parkway and LIE.

I just joined this week and have attended two no-gi fundamental classes so far. Steve taught both of the classes, and it’s an understatement to say he’s an incredible instructor. He has a deep understanding of anatomy and health that he integrates into the class. He begins each class with detailed information about a specific skeletal-muscle group followed by calisthenics that we preform that focus that muscle group. He’ll then begin demonstrating techniques, with thorough explanation to how and why each step is preformed, that we then drill with our partners. Throughout the drills, Steve is helpful and encouraging, and seems to genuinely care about the progress of the students. The classes are cohesive in that the individual techniques we learn throughout the session, can all be applied in our final drilling. Despite having no experience and not knowing any other members, I felt very welcomed. I’ve only had positive interactions with fellow members thus far. The partners I’ve rolled with have been respectful and considerate. The culture in the gym feels like we’re all a team trying to improve together. This gym also highly values cleanliness, which is very important to me. The members I’ve interacted with seem to be very mindful of their hygiene. In the sign up process, Chris was helpful and informative in answering my questions about the gym. He keeps the sign up process quick and easy. Overall, this is a fantastic gym, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to get into jiu jitsu, and improve their health and wellness.

Whether you want to compete or learn a new skill/hobby they have classes for you and also a weight room to help with fitness/weight-loss goals and cold tank/suana for recovery. As an added bonus they host seminars and grappling events.

If you are a small woman who wants to learn how to defend yourself but intimidated enrolling in a bjj school which is a predominantly male sport, this is your place. You have to at least try a class. They have kids womens and fundamental classes..I have already learned a lot in the 2 weeks that Ive been going. It is a very welcoming gym with great people. Ego will have to be left home coz it is non existent here. The owner Steve and all instructors are very helpful in giving tips and making sure everyone’s safe during classes. The culture is very nurturing for scared beginners like me. Also a bonus that they have a lifting area(for strengthening)Ice bath and Infrared Sauna. Goes to show they do care about their students health and recovery as much as teaching the sport. Love everything about this place.

I came to 10PLI with no experience in BJJ, so naturally I was nervous about learning the ropes and making friends at first. These concerns could not have been met with better service. Everyone at the school treats you like family, as long as you show that you want to work I genuinely feel like the instructors will do everything they can to help you. Not only are they friendly, but from my perspective it seems that the instructors serve as great role models in the sport. All of them are active competitors, so they really prove that what they do works. I’ve only been there two months, but I’m confident you won’t find many places better, if any at all.

I have trained at many schools on Long Island and NYC and 10th Planet Long Island is by far the best. Whether you are a BJJ hobbyist (like myself), a competitor or someone interested in learning how to intelligently defend yourself, you owe it to yourself to try a class at 10th Planet. The vibe is very chill and inviting, which I believe to be necessary when learning such a sacred art like BJJ. A lot of traditional schools are full of ego and people trying to hurt each other but 10th Planet consists of down to earth people interested in bettering themselves. Steve is extremely knowledgable and is constantly competing in order to test his knowledge and technique against some of the best. #lookintoit

I've been going here for a few months now. This is a fantastic place to learn No-Gi BJJ. I'm an adult, but from what I've seen, the kids classes are great too. Here's my breakdown: Pros: - This place is genuine. The instructors are all very good at BJJ itself as well as at actually training other people. Everyone is very friendly and supportive. - The price is very competitive for LI. Most other martial arts schools are more expensive. On top of that, there is no contract. If for whatever reason you need to end your membership, there isn't even a membership to end. Just let them know and you're out. I sound like I'm advertising, but this was an important thing for me personally. My son goes to a different school, and there, if we wanted to end his membership, we need to give them a 3 months advance written notice. - While everyone at any level is welcome to any of the classes, there are specific Fundamentals classes at least twice a week. To a beginner, these are invaluable. - Besides No-Gi BJJ, there are other classes like Gi BJJ, Functional Training, Wrestling, various seminars, etc. - Great music selection during training! :D Cons? I don't know... No dedicated parking. It's Smithtown, so you know... But it's easy to find parking around the place. I never have any trouble.

Amazing place to train! First class I ever took was very inclusive and welcoming, everyone training was very friendly and the vibe is awesome. its a great balance of high level jiu-jitsu and beginners. If you have any worries or scared of how advanced others are, don't be. The high level is definitely there but its just as good for beginners like myself. Everyone is more than willing to help you and the instructors are top class martial artists. I'm very pleased to be on this journey in the 10th planet system, no gi is the future. Can't wait to fit more days into my schedule! Also check out other classes that they offer. Yoga, Kettle bells etc... They also have black belts come in from other 10th planet locations and do special instructor classes. They go beyond for their students.

They are all friendly, welcoming, patient, and humble people, and it’s clear how much they love what they do. To me, this is most evident in the fact that it’s not just the instructors, but my fellow students as well that make coming here such a good time. As one of the newest students, it would have been easy to have been intimidated by these experienced grapplers.
