Tampa has one of the busiest BJJ tournament calendars in Florida, with events also running in nearby Land O' Lakes and Clearwater. Grappling Industries Tampa is the most frequent event, returning several times a year.
NEWBREED runs the Florida State Championship along with Tampa spring events and its Samurai Series, and NAGA holds the Tampa Grappling Championship. Freestyle Grapplerz runs Grapplerz Fest and its numbered chapter events, while MDL Florida, Fit Fest quintet events, Guardians of the Gi, Genkai Grapple Club and Gracie Trinity add to the calendar.
Most events offer Gi divisions and a similar share offer No-Gi. Close to half include kids divisions, and well over half have an absolute division. House rules are the most common, with submission-only and IBJJF rules also used, and round-robin brackets are popular. Entry typically costs around $30–$120. August is the busiest month, followed by November, with further events in May, February and June.
