Los Angeles hosts a wide range of BJJ competitions, from in-house friendly tournaments to major trials events. Most take place within the city, with others in nearby Pasadena, Downey and Boyle Heights.
Recurring events include the Los Angeles Jiu-Jitsu Championship, The Union Presents Heatwave and in-house Friendly Series tournaments. ADCC USA has held its West Coast Trials in Los Angeles, the IBJJFF runs Brave Kids Los Angeles season finals, and Super Cup and East LA Jiu Jitsu also organize events.
Gi divisions are a little more common than No-Gi, and around a fifth of events include kids divisions. Some events use ADCC rules, while others run house rules. Adult entry is typically around $31–$120. August, April, September and October are among the most active months.
