Kansas City has one of the largest BJJ competition calendars in the Midwest, with events across the city and in nearby Independence. Both national circuits and regional organizers hold regular tournaments here.
FUJI BJJ runs the Kansas City Jiu-Jitsu Expo and a Kansas City Summer Open, and the American Grappling Federation holds the AGF Kansas City Open and Championships. Other recurring events include Blufight Kansas Gi and No-Gi, the NEWBREED Kansas City Summer Championship, Grappling Industries Kansas City and Submission Challenge events.
Most events offer both Gi and No-Gi divisions, and almost half include kids divisions. Around a third have an absolute division, and EBI-style overtime rules and double-elimination brackets appear at some events. Adult entry is typically around $40–$98. Listings peak in January, with October, June and May also busy.
