World Championship by BJJ Roots 2026

Competition Format (Round Robin for Kids and Juvenile, Single Elimination for Adults)

Our matches strictly adhere to IBJJF rules, ensuring fairness and integrity throughout the tournament. Please familiarize yourself with the combat rules by visiting our website.

• Uniform Requirements: All athletes must compete and weigh-in wearing attire appropriate for their respective division (Gi or No Gi). It is imperative that competitors adhere to IBJJF uniform standards for both Gi and No Gi competitions. Failure to comply with these standards will result in immediate disqualification.

• Competition Schedule: Please note that start times for each series of competitions may vary. We strongly encourage participants to stay updated by following our official pages on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates and announcements. Please also check live match time updates regularly on the day of the competition.
• Weigh-in Requirements: Competitors must make weight during the designated weigh-in period. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from the event. We advise competitors to consider moving to a heavier weight class before completing their registrations to avoid any complications.  
• To preserve the integrity and meaning of the belt ranking system, competitors must compete only within their registered belt division. Mixing belt levels (particularly in kids divisions, such as white belts competing against grey belts or grey belts against yellow belts) is not permitted. Allowing mixed belt matches would undermine its value, fairness, and credibility. Therefore, all participants are expected to respect the structure of the divisions as part of maintaining the standards of the competition.

Brackets creation (for kids including juvenile division)

Competition Format Guidelines

1. Brackets of 2 fighters will have 1 match only.
2. Brackets of 3 fighters. each fighter will get 2 fights.
3. Brackets of 4 fighters, each fighter will get 3 fights.
4. Brackets of 5 fighters and above, each fighter will get 4 fights as max.

All Color Belts for Adults (Blue Belt and Above) fights are 5 minutes only.

Tiebreaker for round robin:

Head to head --> Number of wins by submission --> Sum of all matches points --> Fastest submission (in seconds) --> Sum of all opponents score (lower is better)

Important Note: Being the sole competitor in a division does not qualify for a refund. Our organization maintains a strict no-refund policy.

Kids division

Kids Identification Requirement

All kids competitors MUST present an official identification document during registration/check-in to verify their date of birth.

Accepted documents ONLY:

• Passport
• Official Singapore IC / National ID

No other cards or documents will be accepted, including:

• Library cards
• Student cards
• Membership cards
• Any unofficial identification

BJJ Roots is very proud to introduce kids entries splitting them by gender (boys in one category and girls in a separate category)

Our matches follow a structured sequence to ensure smooth and efficient competition flow, starting with kids and progressing through various age groups, belt levels, and genders.

Please Note: The sequence provided above is for reference purposes only. The organizer reserves the right to adjust this sequence as needed to ensure a smooth and enjoyable competition experience for all participants. Registration Reminder: If you plan to compete in multiple divisions, such as Gi and No Gi, please be aware that each division requires a separate registration fee.

Weigh in

Plan your weigh-in accordingly. Weigh-ins will be conducted 30 minutes before your scheduled fight. Please arrive at least 1 hour before your first match, and weigh-in 30 mins before. Note that the registration counter will call out names for weigh-in.

Weight allowances are as follows:

• Adults: 300 gram
• Juvenile and Kids: 1 kilo

Examples of Arrival and Weigh-in timings

First match at 8 AM: Arrive at 7 AM, Weigh-in at 7.30 AM

First match at 2 PM: Arrive by 1 PM, Weigh-in at 1.30 PM

Weigh-in with full attire(gi, belt etc...)

Note: Please be informed that any weight changes or amendments must be finalized by the time registration officially closes. (For this event, weight updates will close on 30 April.)

Why BJJ Roots?

Many tournaments publish brackets only at the last minute, leaving competitors with unexpected bracket changes or discovering they have no opponent on competition day. At BJJ Roots, we do things differently. We publish brackets as early as possible and communicate with competitors in advance whenever a division has only one athlete, working to find the most suitable solution. While we cannot guarantee every competitor a match, we guarantee transparency, proactive communication, and no unnecessary surprises.
