This is a development event for first-time and experienced athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers. Winning is recognized, but our focus is on learning, growth, respect, and enjoyment.

Karate BC members and non-members are welcome. Spectator admission is free.

Select your club from the “Academy / Club” menu if it is listed. Ignore the “Affiliation / Team” menu.

TEAM KATA REGISTRATION — CLUBS ONLY

A club coach or manager must register each team. The coach only creates one separate athlete account using a unique team name, such as “ABC Dojo Team Kata,” then registers it in the team kata division. Do not register each team member separately for team kata.

Each athlete may perform on only one kata team. Clubs may enter multiple teams using separate team accounts.

Parents and other supporters are warmly invited to sign-up as volunteers too.

EVENT-DAY SCHEDULE

8:00 am — Gym opens

8:30 am — Volunteer and Officials meetings

8:45 am — Coaches meeting

9:00 am — Opening Ceremony

9:15 am — Competition begins

5:00 pm approximately — Competition ends

COMPETITION FORMAT AND SCHEDULING

The event has a maximum capacity of 120 athletes across two competition tatami.

Only one division will run in a ring at a time, making each division easier to follow.

Adult divisions will run first where possible to allow adult athletes to officiate or coach afterward. All kata divisions will run before kumite.

Division timetables and draws will be available on Smoothcomp approximately 48 hours before the event.

Start times are estimates: a division may run more than one hour earlier or later than its posted time. The schedule may change without notice. The Tournament Director may combine or split divisions to improve the competitive experience.

All participants are asked to review and uphold the event’s code of conduct.

AWARDS

All athletes receive a medal because this is a development event with smaller competition pools.

CHALLENGING UP A DIVISION

In kata, athletes may challenge one age group up at the same skill level for more competition. They may also enter a higher skill level but may not challenge down. For example, a novice athlete may enter intermediate kata; an intermediate athlete may not enter novice.

Athletes may NOT challenge up an age group in kumite, as per Sport BC insurance safety policy.

EQUIPMENT NOTICE

Athletes must bring their own required kumite protective equipment. Optional external protective equipment is not supplied. See the separate kumite rules section for the mandatory and optional equipment list.

CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS

A full refund is available up to the registration deadline shown on this event page. No refunds are issued after that deadline for any reason.

If a higher sport or rental authority cancels the event (unforeseen disaster, etc), a full or partial refund will depend on the circumstances and unavoidable expenses. The organizers will work to minimize risks and costs for participants.
