⚖️ Weight Divisions

When registering, select your approximate weight (with Gi on). Closer to the event day, we will recheck all participants’ weights and update everyone. Final divisions and brackets will be created after weight confirmation.

🥋 How Divisions Will Be Made

Divisions will be initially organized by age, weight, and belt color. BVJJ coaches may adjust divisions to ensure fair and balanced matches. Participants may be regrouped within specific weight and skill ranges, which can include mixed-belt divisions (for example, experienced white belts with grey belts, or advanced grey belts with yellow belts).

📊 Brackets Format

  • Round Robin: Divisions with 3 or 4 participants will use a round-robin format to guarantee multiple matches per division.
  • Double elimination: Divisions with 5 or more participants will have double elimination with eliminated athletes competing for bronze match.
  • Best of 3: Divisions with only 2 athletes will compete in a best-of-three format.
  • Match Duration: Matches will last 2, 3, or 4 minutes, depending on the participant’s age category.

⏰ Arrival & Schedule

Once brackets are finalized, each match will have an estimated start time. Please arrive approximately 20 minutes before your division starts. Keep an eye on the event match page for real-time updates — match times may vary throughout the day.

To help manage space in the gym, please do not arrive earlier than 20 minutes before your division’s start time.

🥋 Uniform Requirements

  • Only BVJJ Gis are allowed.
  • No regular t-shirts or thick pants under the Gi.
  • Please wear a rash guard under the Gi and light clothing under the pants.

🤝 Sportsmanship Etiquette

Let’s keep the environment light, positive, and respectful. Our goal is to show kids what true sportsmanship looks like, on and off the mats.

  • Parents are welcome to cheer, but remember that on the mat there are always two kids competing, and one will lose. Celebrate respectfully and set an example of composure and encouragement.
  • Volunteers are dedicating their time to make this event possible. Please treat them with respect and gratitude for helping create a great experience for your child.
  • Kids need support, not pressure, help us create a fun and memorable environment for everyone.
