I put off trying BJJ for years because I could never find a gym that felt right. That changed when I found Combate Academy. From day one, the vibe was super welcoming. No egos, just a bunch of good people trying to get better together. The coaches and professors are knowledgeable and down to earth. They actually care about your progress. The members are friendly and supportive, whether you’re brand new or more experienced. If you’re thinking about trying BJJ, this place makes it easy to jump right in.

“The culture and community here is what keeps me coming back.” I’ve been training at Combate Academy for over a year, and while BJJ is tough, the culture and community here make all the difference. From the very beginning, I’ve felt supported — not just by the instructors, but by every teammate on the mat. There’s no ego here. The coaches care about your progress, no matter your experience level, and everyone brings a positive energy that makes even a 6 AM class something to look forward to. If you're looking for a place that’s built on respect, effort, and real camaraderie, Combate Academy is it. I'm proud to be part of this team.

Fell in love with the gym and the overall team here. Great spot for anyone looking to enter competitive BJJ or for those looking for a more general hobby BJJ experience. Combate offers both and also sells some pretty sweet Gis as well. Many folks here have their entire families doing bjj and it's a wonderful culture to be a part of.

I can't recommend Combate Academy enough! Super welcoming vibe from the second you walk in. Everyone from the coaches to the students was friendly, down-to-earth, and helpful. No ego, just a bunch of people who love jiu-jitsu and want to help each other get better. The gym itself is really clean. Mats were spotless, and the whole place just felt well taken care of. They have lockers rooms for women/men separate from bathrooms. Can tell they put effort into creating a good training environment. Whether you're brand new or have some experience, this place makes you feel like you belong. I love Combate Academy, definitely recommend!

Combate Academy is truly an incredible place to train! The facility is always spotless, showing the care and dedication put into maintaining a top-tier training environment. The coaching is second to none—knowledgeable, patient, and committed to helping everyone improve. My daughters and I both train here, and we consider it our home. The people are extremely welcoming, making it a fantastic community for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. If you’re looking for high-level training in a friendly, supportive atmosphere, this is the place to be!

I can’t say enough good things about this place! First off, the parking situation is fantastic—plenty of great and safe parking available, which is a huge relief. They have a dedicated kids' playroom, so while parents focus on their Jiu Jitsu classes, their kids are happily occupied, allowing for peace of mind. This gym is the cleanest place I’ve ever seen; it’s evident that the owners take pride in maintaining an immaculate environment. The classes offered are exceptional, catering to all skill levels, and I particularly appreciate the women’s open mats and classes that foster a supportive community. What truly sets this place apart is their commitment to giving back. They actively work with the community to collect used gear for underprivileged families, which speaks volumes about their values. The owners are personable and respectful, making everyone feel welcome and part of the family. If you’re looking for a gym that combines quality training with a strong sense of community, I highly recommend training here.

great environment for all levels of experience. everybody is super welcoming, gives you a family feel and at the same time high level grappling. Jennifer teaches yoga and she’s a godsend. Been dealing for rhomboid muscle issues since August, nothing work, not even massages (professional), thanks to her I’m pain free! So go give jiujitsu a try, and if you can’t roll go try some yoga with Jennifer!

It’s really hard to find a BJJ gym that has great people, great coaching, great prices, and great hygiene…but combate has all that and more. If you’re a beginner, you’ll love it here. If you’re advanced, you’ll love it here. This is where you want to be if you live in the Aubrey area and want to train BJJ

Absolutely LOVE this place! I tried several schools in the area after moving here and Combate Academy is the best by far. The environment, cleanliness, and attention are unmatched. I attend the morning and evening adult classes, as well as yoga. There is a great variety of skill levels from elite competitors to brand new hobbyists and everything in between. There is also an active group of women who are incredibly supportive of one another! My daughter attends the homeschool classes and we are extremely happy with that program as well! As a curriculum designer and former teacher/coach myself, I can admit to being extremely picky about teaching styles and class environments, so believe me when I say that the kids coaches are FANTASTIC and leave me with no concerns. They have also been extremely accommodating to her disabilities, taking extra care to check in with her and work with her 1:1 when needed. As a parent and athlete, I absolutely could not be happier with Combate Academy and would recommend it to anyone.

Combate Academy is an amazing gym for all levels regardless if it’s your first day of training or if you are experienced high level! Combate Academy is one of the safest and cleanest gyms you will fine with great coaches and professors. My 6 year old son and I train here and every time we walk in we are greeted like family. Combate Academy is a must try if you are in the Crossroads area!

I couldn’t be happier to have found Combate Academy. Both of my sons take the homeschool class, and the big kids class. It’s a family affair as my husband and I both take the adults class and attend their yoga classes. This is not just a great gym for jujitsu, but a family friendly activity with endless mental and physical benefits. Did I mention that they have yoga classes?! We love the Combate community!

Wow I love this place so much! I’ve trained for a long time and never had such involved, talented, and passionate coaches. Coach Matt, Coach Igor, Coach Dusty and Coach James are knowledgeable, patient, and disciplined. They respect the sport and you can feel it on the mat. The gym is clean and full of perks like locker rooms, a kids corner and coffee. Erika is always incredibly welcoming and accommodating. 10/10 would recommend if you’re a new face in the world of BJJ or a veteran looking for a challenge.

I was in from out of town, came to Combate to there open mat. They are super nice and friendly. I'm always somewhat nervous when I go to a new gym, but they are very inviting so that quickly went away. Felt like I was at my home gym. There gym is very nice too! I will definitely come back when I'm in the Denton area.

Title: Exceptional Jiu-Jitsu Experience I recently had the pleasure of training at combate Academy, and my experience exceeded all expectations. The instructor Mat expertise and dedication to fostering a positive learning environment set this place apart. Combate Academy instructors are not only highly skilled in Jiu-Jitsu but also excellent communicators. They break down complex techniques into digestible components, ensuring that even beginners like my 13th yo, grasp the fundamentals. The emphasis on technique over strength fosters an inclusive atmosphere, welcoming practitioners of all levels. The facility itself is well-maintained, providing a clean and safe space for training. The class schedules are flexible, accommodating various skill levels and busy lifestyles. The camaraderie among students, parents, instructors, and other personal at the Academy adds to the overall positive vibe, making each session enjoyable. What truly stood out to me was the emphasis on respect and sportsmanship. The instructors instill a deep sense of mutual respect among students, creating a community that feels like a family. Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or a newcomer, everyone is encouraged to grow and succeed together. In conclusion, Combat Academy offers an exceptional Jiu-Jitsu experience. From top-notch instruction to a supportive community, it's a place where you can enhance your skills, build lasting friendships, and embark on a fulfilling martial arts journey. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a welcoming and enriching Jiu-Jitsu environment.

One of my friends invited me to come train, I was in two minds when seeing how far it was from my house. However trading at Combate was amazing! Two hour classes! We started with the normal warmup and drilling. Then we went into situational training. After that one hour of rolling. Coach Matt was really welcoming and took his time with explaining and giving attention to each student. All the students were really friendly. One of the students was a cop and wore headgear… he had more cauliflower on his ear than a salad… which was abit intimidating. The gym is super clean and you can tell the layout was thought through properly. As small play room for the kids! So parents can train in peace! Separate spacious locker room. You didn’t have to walk on the mats to get to the bathroom. Overall loved my experience training at Combate Academy and can’t wait to go again.

Great for people at all levels of Jiu-Jitsu. My son and I just started a month ago and couldn't happier with the care that Coach Matt and team take to create a fun and engaging learning environment. The community of people is growing here, and we have both made some great friends here. Would definitely recommend if you are close to the Cross Roads, Little Elm, Aubrey areas and surrounding cities. Watching my son's confidence level grow has been great to watch.

Returning to Jiu Jitsu after many years, I couldn't have found a better place. The warm ups and training are done solidly and the atmosphere is great. Beginners or fighter athletes can both feel fulfilled here as their journeys will be appropriately tested and enhanced. Thank you for the awesome dojo where we can all strive to become professional huggers! ;)

We are so happy that Combate Academy opened up so close to home. Our son has a very hard time acclamating to new situations and it only took him until class 2 to participate (he was all smiles watching the fun everyone else had on class one too). We know that this is going to be such a great thing for him for his future. Coach Matt, Coach Dusty, Coach Erica, Coach James, and the whole team have been so welcoming and wonderful to deal with. Matt and Erica have their own children and a lot of experience dealing with kids and sports. Thanks for everything Combate!

This is an excellent facility for training jiu jitsu for families and individuals! They have changing rooms for men and women, 2 bathrooms, a play area for kids, screen to watch the class from the lobby, and a great brand new mat space. The instructors and staff are super professional and friendly, and they really know their stuff and make you feel welcome. Whether you want to compete or just take up a new hobby for fun and fitness, this is the best place in the Aubrey area for martial arts!
