There are two things that make up a great gym: (1) Great coaches. Coaches that explain the why behind the mechanics. Coaches that push you in a fun and engaging way. (2) Great people. At the end of the day it's critically important to attract the right kind of ppl to the gym. While this is an individual sport it takes good sparing/rolling buddies to help you improve. These individuals have to balance the pursuit of excellence while being considerate of you as a person. Too much passion and no self control, and you risk injury. There has to be an understanding that we are working together to make each other better but we're doing it in a way where we can come back and train again tomorrow. Phat's Fight Club has both of these and I feel incredibly grateful to be part of this community. As for my almost kindergarten kid, well he has come to LOVE the sport thanks to the great coaches here. He asks to go all the time, asks to stay later to watch, and looks for ways to apply what he's learning at home. 😆 As a parent, I couldn't be happier.

From the moment I stepped through the doors, I knew I had found a place that takes training seriously but with heart. Coach Phat is not just a skilled martial artist, he’s an incredible instructor. His ability to break down techniques, tailor advice to different learning styles and push you to reach your potential is what sets him apart. He knows how to challenge you and to help you grow technically, mentally and physically. But it’s not just Coach Phat that makes this gym special, the entire team is knowledgeable, focused, and dedicated. Whether you’re brand new to martial arts or have been training for years, they meet you where you’re at and help you level up. There’s a strong sense of respect on the mats, and the environment is both welcoming and motivating. Everyone here wants to see each other succeed. Posted 1 year agoCoach Phat is a wonderful teacher! He is very committed to helping each of his students learn and is such a great role model for children as well. He not only teaches skills in how to defend yourself, but gives you confidence that can be applied in your everyday life. Would highly recommend.

My family and I live in the UP neighborhood. All four of my kids and my husband train here. I'm constantly looking for ways to keep them off of electronics. Coach Phat's gym has been a great place to keep them active, learn a valuable skill set, and avoid the 380 traffic!
Great new gym. Plenty of matt space and welcoming to all skill levels both kids and adults. Phat is a knowledgeable coach and I appreciate the consistency in class structure. The gym is very clean and well maintained.
My son loves Phat’s Fight Club! He has learned so much from Coach Phat and is thriving in the sport with the coaching and the community. He works hard and has fun while doing it & the benefits definitely carry over into his everyday life. I highly recommend Coach Phat and this gym.

Phats fight club is awesome! Great location, all new equipment and fantastic coaches. Phat is a super knowledgeable black belt that is personable and takes a special interest in making sure you grow as a martial artist. He's always quick to answer any questions and is great with the kiddos. Great bjj/martial arts gym for the whole family.
Coach Phat has been great! I am a middle aged Dad of 4. Myself and my kids train under Phat. He goes above and beyond to make sure you understand what he's trying to teach. We got started with BJJ after one of my kids was being bullied at school. It's definitely a skill set I always recommend to my friends and any parent who will listen. The gym environment coach Phat is creating is awesome too. Great culture! You can make friends, get into great shape and learn some self defense!
